Belt Promotions: Testing was held in August 29th. Congratulations
to the following on their promotions: John Boggs, blue belt; Shae
Miller, orange belt. The next tentative testing will be held
Tuesday, September 26th at 6:30 PM. If no one is ready to test we
will have class as usual that day. Friends and family are welcome
to attend testings. All students regardless if you are testing or
not are expected to be present at testings.
New Students: Please welcome Kodi Hanson to the dojo and welcome
back Shae Miller. Kodi is a blue belt in kenpo and trained
previously in Colorado. Good luck with your training.
Business: Just a reminder that monthly membership fees are due by
September 7th. Please have dues paid on time as this helps us meet
our financial obligations on time. Quarterly membership dues are
due again next month. Remember it's $200 per quarter and you must
pay the entire amount to receive the discount. Otherwise it's $75 a
month.
Also if you have ordered gear and equipment please check the
bulletin board for your total and get the items paid for. Some of
you still owe on gear from this spring. Student manuals are still
available. The price is $20.
Upcoming Events: The Tiger Academy will be hosting a Brazilian Jiu-
Jitsu tournament in Sioux Falls September 23rd, 2006. Entry fee is
only $25. The event begins at 9 AM. It's my understanding that
there will be a taekwondo tournament held at the same time at the
same location. See flyer on the bulletin board at the dojo for more
details.
The 11th Annual Fargo Open Martial Arts Championships featuring
semi-contact karate, taekwondo, and submission grappling will be
held October 28th, 2006. Pre-registration fee is $40 by October
20th and $50 after that date. This tournament will also have a
forms, weapons, and breaking competitions.
Dojo: Now that the student manual project is finally behind me, I'm
working towards getting our school patch finally made up. We are
also looking at offering a calendar with photos of training at the
dojo for 2007.
Health & Fitness: Most everyone took the Karate Physical Fitness
Test (KPFT) last month and did a good job. You should use the KPFT
to set goals to improve your fitness levels. Be sure to bring a
water bottle to class. It's still hot outside and you need to be
drinking water.
MMA: Our run time in improving. We're down to running the 2 miles
in 19 minutes and 51 seconds. That's impressive as we've cut nearly
20 minutes off our run time since July. We also went to the YMCA
and did a 500 meter lap swim. We did good, everyone finished in
under 20 minutes. Our goal was to do it in 12 ½ minutes or less.
JD came the closest finishing the swim in a little over 15 minutes.
And in case you are wondering the 12 ½ minute goal is the swimming
standard for the US Navy SEALs.
We will continue to do some boxing drills so be sure to pick up a
set of hand wraps. They make the gloves fit better and provide
protection to your hands.
Housekeeping: Please be sure to take your uniforms home and was them
on a regular basis. Please excuse the mess caused by recent water
damage. We are working with the landlord to correct the problem.
Other: Season 4 of the Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback is on weekly
on Spike TV. Sometimes there is some blood as it's as real as it
gets. The UFC is real fighting, not badly choreographed junk with
predetermined outcomes. UFC 63 will be September 23rd, UFC 64 will
be October 14th, UFC 65 will be November 18th, and UFC 66 will be
December 30th with all fights live on PPV.
And on October 10th live on Spike TV for FREE, Ken Shamrock and
Tito Ortiz are going to fight for a third and final time. After the
short fight due to referee stoppage at UFC 61 many fans were upset
especially after paying $40 for it on PPV. Dana White, president of
the UFC, is giving back to the fans by having this fight free to
give the fans what they paid for. Shamrock vs Ortiz: The Final
Conflict.
