Come meet some of the Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee steering

be at Arbor Brewing Company.*
This is not an official meeting of the Ann Arbor Skatepark Action
Committee. Rather, this is a way for folks to come out and talk about
the Ann Arbor Skatepark (or anything else that comes up) in a more
laid-back setting than the usual meetings.
Come chat us up, and find out more about our efforts to get a free,
public, concrete skatepark built in Ann Arbor!
*Many of our events are for folks of all ages (skate jams, all-ages
concerts, public meetings). These social "mixers" are intended for
adults over 18.

Well, I think I have finally recovered from The Ann Arbor Art Fair.
Sorry for the long delay, but I'm happy to report that The Ann Arbor
Skatepark Action Committee's first appearance as a non-profit at the
art fair was a huge success! The booth, built by Tony C. and Mike Bush
included a flagpole from which our banner hung and could be seen from
at least a block away. People flocked to our booth and talked with the
many volunteers who helped out. Most visitors to The Ann Arbor
Skatepark booth made a financial contribution as well.
We had shirts and stickers available in return for a donation to The
Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee. Supporters snatched up over 100
t-shirts, and several hundred stickers. We couldn't have done this
without the generous support of the following donors:
Kevin O'Rourke from Crown Vic Productions http://www.korourke.com/
Kevin generously donated the tee-shirt/sticker/logo designs that we
use. Visit his site and see all of the awesome work he does.
Red Paint Printing http://www.redpaintprinting.com/
Todd and Teresa run Red Paint Printing down in Adrian, and cut us a
major deal on the t-shirt printing. They also run Ollie's Skateshop
out of the printshop. We strive to work with local businesses and
skaters, and Red Paint Printing offers us both of those things, not to
mention great products.
Signarama http://stores.signarama.com/48103/
Jeff over at Signarama donated to the skatepark effort by giving us a
substantial discount on our banners. As you can see from the pictures,
the banners are vivid and durable.
VGKIDS http://www.vgkids.com/
VGKIDS has printed our stickers from the beginning, and donates in the
form of cutting us a deal on the cost. Along with stickers, they print
shirts, posters cd covers and more. Check 'em out.
Our debut at the Art Fair really could not have been possible without
the most important ingredient: YOU. Without the support of the many
people who came out to volunteer at the booth (in 90 degree weather
each day) we would not have successful. Also, thanks goes out to the
hundreds (thousands?) of supporters who stopped by the booth to offer
support and assistance financially or otherwise.
We have a saying around here that we strive to use at the end of each
day: "Today was a good day for the skatepark." Well, last week was a
good WEEK for the skatepark! Thank you for making it happen!

Great news... Todd over at Red Paint Printing busted out our shirt
order way faster than we expected. So, we have shirts available now!
Red Paint Printing is owned/operated by skaters, and fully supports
our efforts. When you're down in Adrian stop in the storefront, as
they have a skate shop too!
http://www.redpaintprinting.com/
These shirts wouldn't have been possible without the financial (and
moral) support of Launch Board Shop and Vault of Midnight. They have
really stepped up to the plate to help the Ann Arbor Skatepark become
a reality. They have skatepark shirts on hand NOW, and are ready to
let them loose into the wild. Go get some!
http://www.myspace.com/launchboardshophttp://vaultofmidnight.com/
You can also find our shirts at Acme Mercantile. Acme Mercantile is
itching to help us out any way they can, and we're stoked!
http://www.acmemercantile.com/
The artwork for the shirt designs was generously created and donated
by Kevin over at Crown Vic Productions.
http://www.korourke.com/
The shirts this time around are of designs A and B (
http://yerboy.com/a2skatepark/annarborskateparkshirt.jpg ). In the
future, we'll have shirts using the other two designs as well. Once
you have your shirt, send us a pic of you wearing it and we'll post it
up for the world to see. Let 'em know you support a free, permanent,
concrete skatepark in Ann Arbor!

Hi all,
Next week, The Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee will have a booth
in the non-profit section of the Ann Arbor Art Fair. We are looking
for volunteers to fill two-hour shifts throughout the fair.
Volunteering will consist of handing out literature, selling shirts
and stickers, chatting and having fun!
Tonight we'll start putting together the art fair schedule. If you'd
like to volunteer, please let us know what
day/afternoon/morning/evening you can work, how many shifts you can
take, and whether or not you'd like those shifts to be consecutive.
Please respond ASAP if you are interested (make sure you reply to me,
and not back to the whole email list). Thanks in advance!
-Trevor
Hi all,
Don't forget to look for us this Friday at the fourth of July parade
in Ann Arbor. We'll have a float (can't show you pictures, it's top
secret). And we'll be handing the crowds our super special edition,
patriotic, red, white and blue skatepark stickers!
So come to downtown Ann Arbor at 10:00 on Friday morning and join in
the fun!
-Trevor
Hi all,
The Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee will be making shirts within
the next couple weeks. Please help us decide which design to use this
time 'round. To see the choices and record your favorite, check the
latest blog post on http://www.a2skatepark.org
Thanks!

Hi all,
I realized that in my rush to publicize the Go Skateboarding Day skate
jam, I hit the myspace, facebook, website and press releases, but
skipped this mailing list... D'OH! My apologies if you didn't end up
hearing about it.
Here are some pics that a parent, Don Cox took. They're awesome!

Park Advisory Commission Unanimously Supports Skatepark Location
Holy smokes, where do I begin? How about by saying a HUGE thanks to
the 125+ people who came out to the Park Advisory Commission (PAC)
public hearing in support of the Ann Arbor skatepark location. The
city council chambers were full, with standing room only. The PAC
members were visibly surprised, and the chair even mentioned how she
couldn't remember the last time so many people attended a PAC meeting!
Also, thanks to the many people who couldn't make it to the meeting
due to time constraints, but support our efforts. The PAC saw and
heard the support that we have from the community. People from ALL
walks of life were represented, showing that skateboarding is
universally accepted, and a major part of our community and society.
The many speakers who stepped up to the mic were crucial to our
convincing the PAC that a skatepark is inevitable, and that it needs
to be built soon. These speakers were just normal every day people,
but they elicited spontaneous bouts of applause on many occasions from
the large crowd gathered in council chambers.
At the end of the public hearing, the PAC wrote and voted on a
resolution in support of the Veterans Memorial Park location. The vote
was unanimous, with every PAC member in attendance voting in favor of
the resolution. We will post the resolution on a2skatepark.org as soon
as the final draft is published.
If you attended, or watched on tv yesterday, please take a moment to
post your favorite part of the public hearing on the a2skatpark.org
forums! http://tinyurl.com/48u2eu
We have come a long way in the past year, and we couldn't have done it
without your support. But, we have a long way still to go. The next
phase of the Ann Arbor skatepark will be fundraising. Stay tuned for
updates, as we bring forth the fundraising plan and events.
But, for now, everyone sit back, breathe deep, smile, and know that we
did good. This thing is going to happen, and we're going to do it
together.
THANK YOU!
Trevor Staples,
On behalf of The Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee
Hi all,
This is just the final reminder of tomorrow's public hearing on the
proposed location of the Ann Arbor Skatepark: The Northwest corner of
Veterans Memorial Park. To see pictures of the site, follow this link
http://yerboy.com/a2skatepark/VMPsite/
If you plan to make comments at this public hearing, please keep in
mind that the Park Advisory Commission (PAC) is already in favor of a
permanent skatepark in Ann Arbor. This hearing is to determine if
Veterans Memorial Park is the appropriate location. We need to keep
the focus on the location, now that we've "convinced" the PAC that a
skatepark is needed.
And, don't forget to wear your sticker-badge tomorrow, whether or not
you can be present at the hearing. We want everyone to see the strong
support we have in the community. If you still haven't gotten your
sticker-badges, please email me and we can work it out.
trevor@...
Finally, one note about this email list. When replying to one of the
emails, make sure the "to" field says the address of just the person
you are intending to send to. I'm guilty of not checking too. Sorry
for the emails every once in a while that are not intended for the
people on this list.
That is all. Hope to see you Tomorrow at city hall!

Tuesday, May 20 at 4:00 PM is the public hearing on the proposed
location of the Ann Arbor Skatepark: Veterans Memorial Park.
Please show your support on Tuesday by wearing one of our special
edition sticker-badges (
http://yerboy.com/a2skatepark/badge_noback_web.jpg ).
People across the county (and country?) will be wearing these badges
on their shirts Tuesday to show that they are in favor of an Ann Arbor
skatepark, and the preferred location at Veterans Memorial Park.
The special edition sticker-badges will be available at the following
locations from Friday, May 16 through Tuesday, May 20:
Launch Board Shop on South University
Redbelly Board Shop on Plymouth
Vault of Midnight on Main St.
Sun & Snow in the Westgate Shopping Center
Play it Again Sports in the Westgate Shopping Center
Dream of Futon on S. Ashley
Other locations to be announced
Alternatively, contact us here on facebook and we can find a way to
get you some sticker-badges to wear on Tuesday.
Spread the word!

Hey everybody,
This Tuesday, Jeff Dehring from the Parks Services Unit will be
reporting to the Park Advisory Commission (PAC) about our meeting
regarding location. There will be meetings in the near future that
will be more important for you to attend and show your support, but it
would be great if you could come and attend this meeting as well, if
only until Jeff makes his report.
The more people who show support by attending these meetings, the more
the PAC will know the public wants a skatepark in Ann Arbor.
We will also have a couple people speaking at the public commentary at
the beginning of the meeting. If you would like to do so as well, that
would be great!
The meeting will be this Tuesday at 4:00 in the Council Chambers at
City Hall. If you're interested, you can see the agenda for the
meeting at the following link: http://tinyurl.com/6c3g5m
Thanks!
-Trevor
Hi all,
Now that we have broken the ice with the community regarding location,
it is important that we keep the skatepark on the front burner of the
Park Advisory Commission (PAC). We need you to come and speak on why
it's important for Ann Arbor to build a skatepark, and why Veterans
Memorial Park is the appropriate location.
The public commentary is at the beginning of PAC meetings. Each
speaker signs up just before the meeting, and is allotted three
minutes to speak. You would not have to speak for the entire three
minutes, if you do not wish to.
With even a few people speaking at each meeting in favor of the
skatepark, it shows that we have community support.
The next meeting of the PAC is Tuesday, April 15, 4:00 at city hall.
May's meeting is on the 20th. PAC meetings are always on the third
Tuesday of the month.
Feel free to email me directly if you have questions. Also, let me
know if you will be speaking. If there are a lot of people who wish to
speak, we need to break it up into a few meetings.
Please please please consider doing this in support of the skatepark.
We all hate public speaking (well, actually, I don't mind making a
fool of myself in public), but if you're thinking that someone else
will do it, they are probably thinking the same thing!
Thanks for your support. Let's show our government officials that the
public wants a skatepark in Ann Arbor!
-Trevor
Wow.
Thanks to all who came out on Wednesday evening and supported our
efforts to build a skatepark in Ann Arbor. I would write up a full
report, but Amanda Hamon from the Ann Arbor News already did a great
job of that! Check out her article here: http://tinyurl.com/2tku77
We are in the process of scheduling the May public meeting of the Ann
Arbor Skatepark Action Committee. We'll post here as soon as the date
and location are confirmed. It will be near the end of the month,
after the May meeting of the Parks Advisory Commission.
And speaking of May… The B-Side will be having a benefit concert for
The Neutral Zone and Ann Arbor Skatepark on May 24. This will be an
all ages show. Details coming soon.
Thanks again! We can do this!
-Trevor
We have a big event this week that we need you to attend. This is a
joint meeting of the City of Ann Arbor and The Ann Arbor Skatepark
Action Committee.
We will be making a presentation on why Ann Arbor needs a skatepark,
and why Veterans Memorial Park is the best location for it. Please
plan to come, as this is going to be a major milestone in the
skatepark process. If this meeting is well attended and positive,
we're a huge step closer to getting the location officially secured.
Thanks!
Meeting Details:
Wednesday, April 2
6:30 PM
Abbott Elementary School
2670 Sequoia Parkway, Ann Arbor
I wish this were in a non-smoking venue. I will have to be feeling significantly better to be able to spend even a few minutes in that smokehaus.
Now. What are you doing? Where have you been? This message says it was sent at 13 o clock on Friday. Does that mean you got up 3 hours from now to send it? Are you at Church?

Hi all,
Please plan to attend this upcoming meeting (see flyer here:
http://yerboy.com/a2skatepark/skate_park_pressrelease.jpg ) to discuss
the possibility of Vet's as the new skatepark location. The meeting
will be on April 2, 6:30-8:00 at Abbot Elementary School. This will be
the chance for supporters to find out more about the project, and
speak up on why they think this is a good idea.
If we are not run out of town with pitchforks and torches at this
meeting, the Parks Commission will move to the next step of officially
designating Vet's as the location. After that, we can start our big
fundraising.
Your support at this meeting is needed more than ever. This is your
chance to make a BIG difference in this project!
Thanks!

Hey all,
Don't forget to peep your March Ann Arbor Observer. There's a piece on

Come to the public skatepark meeting tonight at Clague at 6:00 PM.
Show your support. Offer your help. Don't know how you can help? We'll
tell you. Show up.
Oh yeah, and we'll be giving away two decks from Launch, and some swag
from Redbelly tonight.

done more, it could have happened. If WE want a skatepark, WE need to

Hi Skatepark Supporters,
The Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee has a couple events coming up
quickly.
The first is our February public meeting. This meeting is Monday, Feb.
18 at 6PM. It will be held at Clague middle school in Ann Arbor. We'll
update the public on the latest news about the skatepark, offer
stickers and t-shirts, serve up some refreshments, and we'll be giving
away a deck from Launch Board Shop. These public meetings are an easy
way for folks of all ages to come show their support for the project.
On Feb. 23, we have our next benefit concert. This concert will be ALL
AGES, and held at the Elbow Room in Ypsilanti from 4-8 PM. Several
local punk bands have offered their time and talents to help support
the A2skatepark. Cover charge is $8. Entry fee includes a door-prize
ticket. We'll be giving away many prizes from local skate-related
companies.
On another note, I just did an interview for Ann Arbor's 107.1. It
will air on the "Our Town" show on Sunday. So, um, set your alarm for
6AM so you can hear it. Yes, it's airing at 6:00 AM Sunday. You can
also catch the interview on WWWW 102.9 FM, WLBY 1290 AM, and WTKA 1050
AM. Don't worry if you're not an early riser, we'll have the interview
up on our website after it airs :-D

Last Saturday we had our first Street Team meeting. We met down at
Launch, ate some Brown Jug pizza, and headed out for about an hour of
flyering and spreading the word.
New Street Team members Sam, Deandre, Howie, Jeff, Lauren and Jonah
all worked hard to get the word out. For their efforts to support the
Ann Arbor Skatepark initiative, they recieved a special edition Ann
Arbor Skatepark Street Team tee-shirt, some stickers, lunch, and
they'll be on the guest list for our upcoming all-ages show at the
Elbow Room on February 23! Also, they got tickets for the door prize,
a Launch shop deck. Lauren was the winner, and passed it on to her
son, Sam. He's a lucky dude, for sure!
What do you get for being a Street Team member?
* Street Teamers get a free, special edition A2skatepark t-shirt.
* Street Teamers get skatepark stickers… whenever they want!
* Street Teamers get a chance at winning a Launch shop deck at each
Street Team event.
* Street Teamers get on the guest list for skatepark benefit concerts.
* Street Teamers get in on the skatepark initiative on the ground floor.
* Street Teamers get to be directly involved with a positive community
project.
What do street team members do?
* Meet the first Saturday of each month at Street Team events
* Put up posters for upcoming Ann Arbor Skatepark events
* Hand out stickers to help spread the word
* Talk about the skatepark to people face-to-face, and on skate
related websites, forums and bulletin boards
* Explain to (non-skating) adults the need for a free, legal, public
place to skateboard and inline skate.
Wanna be on the Ann Arbor Skatepark Street Team? Awesome. Just sent
Crystle an email at crystle@... She's the Street Team
"manager," and will give you all the details.
Hi all,

Saturday at 1:00 The Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee's new street team will be meeting at Launch Board Shop. We'll hang out, talk skatepark, eat some FREE pizza and pop, then head out on the town to get flyers out for a few upcoming events, including the public skatepark meeting at Clague on Feb. 18.
And, if that's not enough to get you down to Launch to help out the skatepark initiative, how does a FREE DECK sound? Launch has generously offered up
a shop deck for us to give away to one lucky street teamer.
Also, we'll have special edition A2skatepark Street Team shirts to give out to those who "join up."
Looking forward to seeing you all at Launch. Remember:

Hi all,
Hope those of you in the midwest didn't get heatstroke in the past few
days ;-)
I'm writing to ask for some support for the skatepark project. We have
made two formal presentations to the Parks Advisory Commission (PAC),
and are meeting with PAC staff tomorrow to discuss location of the
skatepark. They seem to be in support of the skatepark, but we want to
keep it on PAC's radar, even in the months when we don't formally
present to them. This is where parents, kids, and other members of the
community can help a lot.
What we need is members of the community who support the building of a
skatepark speak at the public commentary portions of PAC and City
Council meetings. Basically, one signs up at the beginning of the
meeting, is allowed 3 minutes to speak, and that's it. It only takes a
few minutes, and folks would not have to stay for the entire meeting.
We're looking for people to simply say, "I think it's important that
Ann Arbor have a free, permanent skatpark because blah blah blah."
PAC meetings are held at City Hall on the third Tuesday of each month
at 4:00 pm. Council meets at 7:00 pm 2-3 times a month, and we'll have
those dates on a2skatepark.org.
It would be great if you could make an appearance at one of the public
commentary sections during 2008. It is late notice, but the next PAC
meeting is this Tuesday. And, if you could spread the word about this
to other parents, kids and community members, that would be great.
Thanks a bunch. This community project can happen with your help!
-Trevor
As many of you know, the next meeting of the Ann Arbor Skatepark
Action Committee is this Tuesday at Scarlett Middle School in Ann
Arbor. The meeting will start at 5:30 pm.
At our public meetings we discuss the latest actions of the skatepark
group, and organize future actions and events. These public meetings
are where YOUR VOICE can be heard regarding the skatepark. Whenever we
mention "we" "us" "our" and "committee" we mean me, you, your parents,
your friends, and all other supporters of the Ann Arbor Skatepark.
Please come and show your support. Without you there, the decisions
will still be made. Come be part of the decision making process.
And, as if those reasons aren't enough to get you to show up at the
meeting, how about this? There will be refreshments: drinks, cookies
and chips. AND, there will be a door prize of a 7" shop deck from
Launch Board Shop. All you have to do to be in the drawing is show up
to the meeting and eat some snacks!
We want to thank Eric Wheeler, Eric Hosmer, and all the other folks at
Launch for their unwavering support of the Ann Arbor Skatepark
project. They know their support is crucial to this thing... do you?
We hope to see you at Scarlett this Tuesday evening. Please come, and
bring a friend or relative!
Thanks.

Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee
Hey all,
Thanks for all you do to support the Ann Arbor Skatepark Action
Committee. We are dedicated to getting a free, public, concrete
skatepark built in Ann Arbor. Your support is crucial as we work with
the city government to make this skatepark a reality.
I wanted to send out a notice clearing up some things that have been
confusing in the last few days. Firstly, we had a get together of the
Steering Committee the other night. The way we worded the "invitation"
made it sound as if it were a meeting of the Ann Arbor Skatepark
Action Committee. Some folks were put off by the sound of a skatepark
meeting being held at a restaurant/bar. Well, the "meeting" was not
actually a meeting, but a social gathering of some members of the
Steering Committee, and we wanted to invite members of the public to
come and meet us, talk skatepark and socialize a bit. We have worked
very hard in the past year to make the skatepark happen, and we needed
some time to relax, blow off steam, and kick off the new year.
I want to personally apologize, on behalf of the Ann Arbor Skatepark
Action Committee, to anyone who felt left out of the loop because of a
meeting being held at a restaurant/bar. All we intended to do was get
out and let our hair down before the hard work starts up again.
The next thing I wanted to clear up is the fundraising show(s)
situation. As many of you know, our first fundraising event is next
Friday, January 11. This show will be held at the Blind Pig, and is
for folks who are 18 years and older. Again, folks are feeling left
out of the action by having a fundraising show that is for people over
18 only. Don't worry though! We plan to have at least one show a month
to raise money for, and awareness of the Ann Arbor Skateapark Action
Committee. In a perfect world, we'll have an all-ages show and a +18
show each month. At this point we have two shows/fundraising events
scheduled: the one at the Blind Pig in January, and an all ages show
at the Elbow Room in Ypsi in February.
We want to cater to all skaters and supporters of the skatepark. We
come from all different backgrounds, and we are all different ages. We
will have events for all, and events that will only be for some. We
want everyone involved, and do not want to leave anyone out. Please
let us know your thoughts on how we are serving the needs of the
skating community. We want to offer as many chances as we can for you
to be involved.
I hope this clears up some things for people. 2008 is going to be the
year of the skatepark in Ann Arbor. There's a lot of hard work ahead,
but there's going to be a lot of fun involved too. And when this park
gets built, we'll all be able to drop in and say, "IT WAS ALL WORTH IT."
Thanks for your time. I hope to meet you soon at one of the upcoming
skatepark meetings. The next one is this Tuesday, January 8, 5:30 pm
at Scarlett Middle school. And don't forget to visit a2skatepark.org
for all the updated info on events, happenings and news.
Have a great 200sk8!
