Park Advisory Commission Unanimously Supports Skatepark Location

Holy smokes, where do I begin? How about by saying a HUGE thanks to
the 125+ people who came out to the Park Advisory Commission (PAC)
public hearing in support of the Ann Arbor skatepark location. The
city council chambers were full, with standing room only. The PAC
members were visibly surprised, and the chair even mentioned how she
couldn't remember the last time so many people attended a PAC meeting!
Also, thanks to the many people who couldn't make it to the meeting
due to time constraints, but support our efforts. The PAC saw and
heard the support that we have from the community. People from ALL
walks of life were represented, showing that skateboarding is
universally accepted, and a major part of our community and society.

The many speakers who stepped up to the mic were crucial to our
convincing the PAC that a skatepark is inevitable, and that it needs
to be built soon. These speakers were just normal every day people,
but they elicited spontaneous bouts of applause on many occasions from
the large crowd gathered in council chambers.

At the end of the public hearing, the PAC wrote and voted on a
resolution in support of the Veterans Memorial Park location. The vote
was unanimous, with every PAC member in attendance voting in favor of
the resolution. We will post the resolution on a2skatepark.org as soon
as the final draft is published.

We have come a long way in the past year, and we couldn't have done it
without your support. But, we have a long way still to go. The next
phase of the Ann Arbor skatepark will be fundraising. Stay tuned for
updates, as we bring forth the fundraising plan and events.

But, for now, everyone sit back, breathe deep, smile, and know that we
did good. This thing is going to happen, and we're going to do it
together.
