thanks, Ray, for being  the voice of reason....I know everyone is frustrated but if we trade everyone who went into a slump we would have a new-faced team every month....relax folk...we're still up there and (hopefully) we'll snap out of it...if we were in last place and the same thing was going on, then I would be concerned....

Now lets follow your logic. Swisher hit into a DP with the bases
loaded, and 1 out, to end the inning and you want to get rid of
him. On that note, Quentin hit into a DP in the 3rd inning with 2
on, and 0 out, to kill a possible rally. Guess we get rid of him
too. Linebrink comes in and gives up the walk off. Guess we should
get rid of him also. Konerko is only batting .005 better than
Swisher. How many men has he left on base? Better get rid of him
too. If we get rid of everyone who doesn't come thru with
timely/clutch hitting, or loses a game because they gave up a homer
or the lead, we won't have a team come the end of June. It's a team
loss...not an individual loss. I'm as frustrated as everyone else
that we scored 1 lousy run in 2 games; but that's baseball ladies
and gentlemen! I've followed Swisher from his days as a AAA
Sacramento River Cat thru Oakland. Right now he's on the Grand Funk
railroad and I believe he'll come around, and I still say that
Konerko should go DL until they can heal his hand. He's doing us no
good as is.

Uribe should have never been re-signed.  I think for a penalty, Kenny should have to pay him for doing something so stupid.  And look how well the team does without Uribe on the team.  I agree Ramirez is doing better.  That slide he did in Cleveland to score a key run was the best slide I have ever seen.  He also played most of the game injured, something Uribe would never do.

Also I think get rid of Thome and Swisher.  Son of Steve Swisher cost us the game yesterday.  Bases loaded and one out you need to score a run.  If that happens, Bobby is in there in the 9th instead of Linebrink who has been used a lot lately.

I agree.  I hate it when players do this.  I would love to see owners do this to the players when they have a bad year.  The only time I can remember that happening is Reinsdorf doing it to Frank Thomas via that performance clause in his contract.

You signed a long term contract, now honor it.

When you had those bad years, I did not hear the Bears asking you to renegociate your contract downward.

Quit your crying.

You showed up to minicamp and you act as if you did the Bears a favor.  Your obligated by contract to be at camp.....your becoming a bum!

You just had off season neck surgery and you want a raise?  Get real.

You more than likely have.....if you healed from the surgery......one good year left in you.

No one forced you to sign that long term contract.  Your a multi millionaire.....yu think people are going to sympathize with you while the economy is going into the dumps and people are losing their jobs?  You own two big expensive houses and alot of people hare having a hard time hanging on to the home they have.

You need a reality check.

Typical greedy modern day player.

The Bears honored it while you sucked for a couple of years.

Honor that contract that yu signed and quit your crying!

I tend to agree with you.  The only reason for this outcry for replay is because a couple of NY sluggers were robbed of home runs.  They didn't seem to complain about this when that kid reached over the fence in the ALCS about 10 years ago and turned an out into a home run.  The NY media thought that was great and made that kid out to be a hero.  They could have instituted replay then so what's the big hurry now?

There is no reason for replay when there are 4 sets of eyes watching most home run plays (6 sets in postseason).  Even with replay, people make the wrong decisions.  Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for example claimed the ball didn't bounce into Josh Paul's glove during the 2005 ALCS even after watching a slo-mo replay that did show that.  There is even an authentic MLB licensed photo showing the ball bouncing but since the left coast media didn't like that explanation, they totally ignored that evidence.  If it wasn't for that replay and picture, we may never have known what happened.  Fortunately that ump got it right even though he is still villified even today by the media and fans.

I think setting time limits to baseball games and removing the human element by incorporating replays is really a bad thing.  Bud Selig has already ruined baseball in many ways so it doesn't surprise me that he is for this stuff.  Interleague play has run it's course.  Nobody cares about that anymore.  Prices for everything have skyrocketed since he has taken over.  He did nothing about steroids until he wanted MLB players to play in the stupid World Baseball Classic which meant the players be subject to strict Olympic type drug testing.  Also Congress had to get involved too before he did anything.  Still many drugs aren't tested for and players can still easily use performance enhancing drugs if they wanted to.

Baseball still has the human element.

Take a look at the NFL.....replay stinks.

The replay itself takes momentum away from a team as it seems to take about 5 minutes for them to rule on a play.  Boom the mo-mo the team had is gone.

Worst thing that can happen to baseball is the replay.  Once they get their foot in the door they will expand it to double plays and close plays at 1st.  That would suck big time.

-Basically...yes. Good to see him get some support once in awhile.
He should be at least 5-3.

Nice try by Wise to rob Floyd of the dinger in the 9th. Looked great
on replay!

-I tend to agree Saul. Even though I was not a Ramirez fan earlier
because of his non-BA, he seems to be getting used to ML pitching and
is showing me some stuff. He's faster than Uribe, has about the same
arm and I believe will eventually surpass Uribes BA. Uribe is just
not an intregal part of this team any longer and I believe it's time
to get rid of the dead weight. The only thing he has going for him is
that he can play 2nd base if Ramirez gets injured and can fill in
until we bring someone up from AAA. That's about it.

-Since you mentioned Buehrle, let me say that I'm beginning to be
concerned about him. 2-6 with a 5.27 ERA. Toby Hall seems to
always catch him. Maybe we should change the battery of
Buehrle/Hall to Buehrle/AJ and see what happens. If AJ needs a
break, let Hall catch another pitcher.

Isn't that exactly what happened to Danks last year too?

Quit your crying Urlancher.

Now is the time to get rid of Uribe.

Ramirez is starting to ajust to major league pitching.

Uribe is just more dead weight for the team's hitting.

But we know that Uribe must have pictures of Ozzie in a compromising situation because Ozzie will keep Uribe on the roster.

Way to play those cards Uribe.

Nooooooooooooooooo!

No replays.......yu do that, yu might as well get rid of the umpires.

**  I originally posted that I was for replay on all close plays.  I'm still for it on home runs.  There's more homers that should've been than homers that shouldn't have been called and a wrong call could turn the momentum and/or cost a team a win, which could be huge in September.  As for the close plays, the purist comes out in me.  Those calls kinda even up during the season.  If they do initiate replay for close calls I think that each manager should have 1, 2 at the most, replay calls during a game, and that the replay be conducted on site and take no more than 30 seconds.  These days there is ample camera coverage in the parks to allow them to do this.

Top ump: Replay is coming to baseball

by FOXSports.com

Updated: May 30, 2008, 12:48 PM EST 59 comments

The major leagues' top umpire believes instant replay will become a reality but cautioned that baseball needs to set a high standard for using the technology.

While participating in an online chat with the Houston Chronicle, umpire supervisor Rich Rieker discussed how support for using replays for home runs or close plays has surfaced with several disputed calls in recent weeks.

"Replay is coming," Rieker wrote. "If done properly we have an opportunity to set the gold standard in replay, learning from pros and cons from other sports. But we must do so in a fashion that will not delay the game further."

Rieker doesn't anticipate lengthy delays during games if replays are utilized.

"Replay could slow down the game, but it could also eliminate unneccesary arguments," he wrote. "So there might be a canceling effect. But surely, there will be some delay."

Since mid-May, Carlos Delgado, Alex Rodriguez and Ben Francisco have all lost home runs to incorrect calls, and Geovany Soto had to leg out out an inside-the-parker on a ball that had actually cleared the outfield wall.

The sport's general managers voted 25-5 during the offseason to consider using instant replays to verify home-run calls. A system may be tested in the Arizona Fall League.

Well the Rays won, which only adds insult to the injury of hearing Ed
Farmer sound EVEN MORE IRRITATED for the last HOUR than he usually
does. Maybe it was something he ate. Sometimes I wonder: Why can't
we have Vin Scully instead?? See ya tomorrow.

Be careful what you say, Ray. I said the same thing about Mark before his last start. What did he do in the 1st inning? Gave up 5 runs. Of course!

-It was also great to see the Sox score some runs for Danks. In his
previous two outings they scored zip and zilch. He's a better
pitcher than his record shows.

Crede, Konerko homer to power White Sox past Rays

By FRED GOODALL, AP Sports Writer 1 hour, 11 minutes ago

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—While the Tampa Bay Rays have been the hottest team in baseball, the Chicago White Sox haven't exactly been slouches.

The AL Central leaders won the first-ever game at Tropicana Field between teams in sole possession of first place in their divisions Thursday night, cooling off the AL East-leading Rays 5-1 before of a crowd of 12,636.

John Danks (4-4) allowed one run and six hits in six innings to beat Edwin Jackson (3-4) for the second time this season. He pitched seven scoreless innings to beat the right-hander 6-0 on April 20, a loss that left Tampa Bay in last place at 8-11.

The Rays have gone 24-11 since then and entered Thursday tied with the Chicago Cubs for the best record in the major leagues. They've won nine of their last 11 series, including six straight at home since the White Sox won two of three games from them here six weeks ago.

Joe Crede and Paul Konerko homered and Carlos Quentin, Jim Thome and Orlando Cabrera also drove in runs for the White Sox, who are on a roll of their own with 12 wins in their last 15 games. Danks walked one and struck out eight to improve to 3-0 lifetime against the Rays.

Crede hit his ninth home run, a solo shot off Jackson, in the sixth inning. Konerko hit his sixth of the season leading off the eighth against Jason Hammel.

Carl Crawford had an RBI single in the third for Tampa Bay, which earlier in the day learned it will be without closer Troy Percival for at least two weeks. The 38-year-old was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

The Rays had plenty of other opportunities, but were 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position against Danks and relievers Matt Thornton and Octavio Dotel.

Boone Logan finished up with a scoreless ninth for Chicago, extending a stretch in which the White Sox bullpen has not allowed an earned run to 27 innings over its last nine games.

He went 1-for-4 as the designated hitter and scored Tampa Bay's only run.

First of all, way to go Sox!  I like to see Konerko get hot because we need him.  I really don't think the Rays are all that good but a win is a win nonetheless.  I can't believe only 12,000 fans showed up.  The Kane County Cougars could pull in that many even if they were in last place!  The Rays are in first place and you know many of those fans were White Sox fans anyway.  I think MLB should just pull out of Florida.  Quite obviously they only care about NASCAR and college football.

Crede, Konerko homer to power White Sox past Rays

Notes

Since moving to third in the White Sox batting order 15 games ago, Quentin has 19 RBIs. … Rays OF Rocco Baldelli (mitochondrial disorder), who has only played in 127 games over the past four seasons because of an assortment of injuries, went 1-for-5 as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game—his first game action since going on the 60-day DL on March 28. … The White Sox reinstated INF Danny Richar (fractured left rib) from the 15-day DL and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte. … The Rays activated INF Willy Aybar (left hamstring) from the DL. Some clues from the description:

"The left side of the ring has a receded panel with staff memeber's
name and the season records of "99-63" in relief, over the Major
League Baseball emblem, with the position held in the company at the
bottom of the panel.

The right side of the ring has a recessed panel with "World Champions
2005" over the playoff record "11-1" in relief at the bottom of the
panel."

Ok, keep guessing.
