"Last year was one year where everything went down the drain. I don't see that happening again, at least in the next couple years."
Konerko, a first-round pick in 1994, takes great pride in his longevity.
"Just the fact you get 10 years in, for every player that comes in, that's the big goal," Konerko said.
"On one hand, that's kind of cool. It doesn't seem like as big a deal now as when you first come in and someone said you would get it. And then the 10-and-5 thing, it's cool because with all the players moving around in the game today, that doesn't happen a lot, so I'm proud of that."
Konerko's major-league service time (with 172 days constituting one year) started in 1997 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and resumed with the Sox in 1999 after a half-season with Cincinnati.
"I see [baseball] cards with different uniforms," Konerko said.
"And it doesn't seem like that was something that actually happened."
