**I've made my predictions, both official and unofficial, and I'm
sticking to them. Official: Crede/Fields. Unofficial: Sweeney.
Someone other than ScoPod is going to be our regular LF next
season. It may be Sweeney or someone outside the organization, but
it's not going to be ScoPod. Of course, if I'm wrong about any of
this I'll deny I ever said it.

Ouch, Mike. I don't have it in me to say something like that to an
arrogant Cubs fan but I'm glad you do--way to go! Let 'em have it.

And yeah, what's with that movie? Of all the.....How hysterical and
embarrassing, and SAD to have to win the World Series in their dreams
even if it is a movie. I don't understand how desperate and pathetic
the Cub fans are. I would be so embarrassed.

all summer i've had cub fans walk up to me and howl in my face that the sox suck. for the cowards that stick around for me to inform them that the cubs will never, ever ever in their lifetime or their kids lifetime ever hoist that world series trophy over their heads and their reply to me is sox still suck.  heres a funny story, makes me laugh that cubs fans can only wish, can only wish what a bunch of dreamers and cowards,
losers can bite me. the only way the cubs can win is in a fiction movie.

(CBS) CHICAGO The dream of the Cubs making the World Series will nearly come true on the big screen Thursday night.

The film “Chasing October” follows a true believer’s quest to get the Cubs into the World Series.

During the 2003 season, Matt Liston stopped at nothing. He recruited several Chicago celebrities to help him plan the victory parade and there’s even a “divine” plea.

Although the Cubs’ dream didn’t happen that season, Liston will always wait for next year.

But right now, he’s happy realizing his own big screen dream. CBS 2’s Alita Guillen and Jim Williams also have cameos in the film.

The movie premieres Thursday night in Wrigleyville. Tickets are sold out, but proceeds benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Too bad Thornton and McCarthy blew it!  Thankfully the Tigers lost but this would have been a great time to gain some ground.  The Twins are now only a half game out since they won with Santana pitching today.

Hello fellow Sox fans. Very tough loss today but not to worry,
everything will be fine. I have been talking to you since late July
about finally getting Jermaine Dye in the three hole where he belongs
instead of Thome. Did anyone notice yesterday that when Dye got on
base, he stole second and then got home on Thome's single. This is
how things should work. Finally!! Jermaine is our best hitter, best
clutch hitter and is a decent contact hitter and situational hitter as
well. I hope Ozzie keeps him where he belongs, where he lead us to
the World Championship...batting third! See my post from July 26 -
28h. I have full confidence that this move will make the difference
in our offensive production. Let me say it now, THE SOX WILL CATCH
THE TIGERS. You heard it here first. Opinions????

You're asking me why they moved it?  LOL  It's a terrible decision but I'm guessing they made Reinsdorf an offer he couldn't refuse.  It will be next to impossible getting into their ballroom for Opening Ceremonies.  It certainly isn't as big as the one at the Hyatt.  The autograph rooms are much smaller too so there is no way they will hold as many people.  The good thing I guess is that it will be harder for people to cut in line and try to circumvent the system by getting multiple wristbands for each player.  At least I hope some of those problems are resolved.  It might be easier to shop for stuff as you won't be blocked from that area by people waiting in line.  Other than that, I can't think of any positives for this move.  I will miss the Hyatt!  They had a Connie's Pizza there too lol.

You have it all wrong.  The owners of the building are the ones opening the new restaurant where Jimbo's is now.  These are the same one's who claim to be Connie's Pizzas namesake when they had nothing to do with that business.  Their version of "Connie's Pizza" was a miserable failure.  Anyway, Jimbo's will definitely be able to operate throughout the playoffs as these things can get tied up in court for 2-3 months before being resolved.  They are definitely upset about it but really instead of crying to the media they should be looking for a new location to open up again.

This is from the Tribune:

"In an area of Bridgeport where the pickings are slim for social gathering spots before and after games at U.S. Cellular Field, the place that became a Sox fan's landmark might be a month away from becoming history.

"I'm devastated," Levato said. "I can't explain it."

Levato, 70, received a letter from landlord Ray Degrazia on Aug. 26 formalizing plans to terminate the lease with Jimbo's, a neighborhood watering hole with more regulars than can fit in the Sox dugout. The letter stated that if Levato wanted to operate the business he has run for 22 years into October in the event the Sox made the playoffs, he could consult his attorney for permission.
"My dad has worked too hard and meant too much to this neighborhood that he should walk away on his own terms," said Joey Levato, the son of "Jimbo" who manages the bar. "We still don't know why. All we can figure is we were making too much money."

Several family members of Degrazia contacted said the building owner would not be available for comment until later this week. An employee at the pizzeria next door to Jimbo's, in the same building Degrazia bought in 1988 for $115,000, according to real estate documents, said he had no way of reaching him.

Levato's attorney, John Winters, says he has been told that Degrazia and his wife plan on opening their own establishment on the site, and if that doesn't work, condominiums.

One of the longtime patrons eating in Jimbo's outdoor cafe feared the owner planned to turn the corner into another trendy coffee chain, which would be almost as bad as a Cubs merchandise store to longtime neighborhood residents."

It might be a two-horse race in the National Media but they are not the only ones who vote for MVP.  They are severely biased towards the Yankees and Red Sox although I think Big Papi was a cinch for the MVP until he got injured.  Going by the stats which is all that matters for this award, in addition to the players you mentioned there is also Travis Hafner on the Indians, Justin Morneau on the Twins, and of course Paulie too who should be considered.  Jeter is having a good year but he will really need to step it up in September if he wants to win it.  The last player with similar stats to Jeter who won the award was Ichiro who scored 127 runs and stole over 50 bases while hitting 11 points higher than Jeter is now.  Even Tejada is very close to Jeter in most of the categories for SS and has way more home runs too.  So it can be argued Jeter isn't even the most valuable shortstop in the AL.  Let's face it, if Jeter is on any other team, he is not even mentioned for MVP (at least yet).  It's funny how some talking head on ESPN or Fox can say something and then it gets repeated over and over by people.  If Dye was on the Yankees, there wouldn't even be any other candidates.

I don't know Bridget.  Nothing is listed on the White Sox website about Soxfest 2007 yet.  I think the tickets will go on sale sometime in September (that's when they usually did) but I'm not sure about that.  They changed hotels so now the whole process of getting hotel packages (if those are still available) has changed too.  Also with the increased number of season ticket holders, there will be a lot less tickets and hotel packages available if season ticket holders get to buy their packages/tickets first.  I know plenty of them were crying like big babies about not being able to get tickets to last year's Soxfest and then when many did get free tickets, they went and sold them on eBay.  There are lots of jerky Sox season ticket holders this year obviously only in it for the $$$ to scalp the real fans.

Thome improving, but sits out

CHICAGO (AP) - White Sox designated hitter Jim Thome sat out his second straight game Friday night with a left hamstring strain as Chicago began a key three-game series with the Minnesota Twins.

Thome has improved since getting hurt Wednesday night in Detroit and manager Ozzie Guillen said he doesn't expect his No. 3 hitter to be put on the disabled list. Guillen even said there's an outside chance Thome could appear this weekend as a pinch-hitter, though it's not likely.

"Everything is coming along good. We did a lot of treatment, obviously," Thome said Friday. "I'm feeling better than yesterday and I think that's kind of how this all works. You start feeling better every day and that's really all I can say."

The White Sox led the AL wild-card race by a half-game over the Twins entering the series opener. Thome's bat has been a big part of Chicago's success this season. He is hitting .294 with 36 homers and 91 RBIs.
Thome said he's not sure how long it will be until he's able to play.

"I haven't run," he said. "I think tomorrow will be a really big day as far as how I feel."

With Thome out, Guillen has moved hot-swinging Jermaine Dye from fifth to third in the batting order. Guillen elevated Dye to the third spot for the regular-season finale and kept him there throughout the playoffs a year ago. And Dye was a catalyst, winning the World Series MVP award and leading the White Sox to their first title in 88 years.

Dye has passed Thome for the club home run and RBI lead with 37 and 99 respectively, while batting .325.
"Anytime you lose a bat like his, of course, he's a big part of our club," Dye said. "But he wasn't here last year and we had success down the stretch. You have to try and pick it up in other ways. ...For me, hitting in the third hole, it doesn't really matter."

Guillen said he's confident the White Sox can cover, while Thome is out. He'll use Paul Konerko at both DH and first base, alternating him in those positions with Ross Gload.

"His range of notion was good," Guillen said of Thome. "I don't think he's going on the DL. He's going to be day-by-day. ... He feels a lot better and doing what he was supposed to be doing."

Yes, the founder of Connie's Pizza knows a great deal about the service industry and they put out a pretty fine pizza too.  I especially like going to Sox games and winning the Connie's Pizza Race so I can get my free pizza with the coupon they give you when you walk in.

The year was 1963, and a young entrepreneur named Jim Stolfe had just exchanged his Oldsmobile Starfire for a small storefront pizzeria on 26th Street on Chicago's South Side. That Bridgeport storefront became the original home of Connie's Pizza. By the time Mr. Stolfe could afford to change the sign on the front of the store . . . it was too late, the legend and reputation of Connie's Pizza had already begun.
Today, 40 tasty years later, that small storefront location is just a fond memory that has paved the way for new award-winning restaurants and a retail presence that reaches beyond the Chicago market.

The Stolfe family is still hard at work creating new ways to combine ingredients and toppings and always strive for better ways to impress all guests. This dedication and drive has resulted in 40 years of perfecting everything from their unique dough to their famous-heated delivery trucks that bring piping-hot Connie's Pizza right to your door.

These new owners are just trying to steal Jimbo's business away and it's pretty lame.  I'm glad the newspapers and television stations are all over this.  Even if Jimbo's did move, it's not guaranteed their customers would move with them.  Many are used to going to that location and that is what the new owners are counting on.  Certainly Jimbo's should have seen this coming and maybe did something about it sooner.  They are to blame too as nothing can stop the owners from doing what they want with their own property.  However I think the new owners could have waited until after this season and especially not evict the Jimbo's owners on their 50th wedding anniversary.  That is just unnecessary and really shows the type of people they are.  I won't be going there!

That's as good of a reason as any. Sure Jimbo's should have been
prepared for this day and they could move elsewhere like you said. But
why patronize the new bar when their owners whole philosophy on life is
to screw people. They will no doubt charge more for everything and it
won't be as good.

The founder of Connie's pizza may know a thing or two about the service

Stupid, stupid, article.  Brainless.  Cowardly.  Moronic.  It shows Jay Mariotti's ignorance of baseball as well as his ever apparent "penis envy" of Ozzie.  Let's set this straight, Jay could care less about Dye and will rip him to shreds if he ever has the reason to in the future.  Don't for one minute think Jay is a Sox fan now or is really rooting for Dye to win anything.  He only wrote the article so he could pimp himself and rip Ozzie at the end of it.

The entire logic of the article is flawed too.  First he compares Dye to Derek Jeter who won't even finish in the top 5 for MVP voting this year.  Sure he is always the Yankees MVP and I'd love for him to be on the Sox too but league MVP is a wee bit of a stretch.  Jeter leads the league in nothing yet Dye is at least top 10 in every major category.  Maybe he chose Jeter so that he could drop some names in there so his stupid column can turn up in searches on Google and Yahoo for "Tyra Banks", "Jessica Alba", and "Mariah Carey".  It's such a sophomoric trick.  Then he will point out to his idiot editors on how many hits his article had and they will pay him more money and keep him in this town longer.

This article is merely spam and that's all Jay ever writes.

Well everyone should just boycott the new restaurant next season.

Because the owner of the building is mean? They're not forcing them out

Businesses move all the time. It doesn't sound like Jimbo is all that
ambitious. Which is too bad because I love that bar.

This is like a scene from the Sopranos.  It's sad but Jimbo's should be able to stay open for the playoffs.  It would take 2-3 months for them to actually be evicted from the time the proceedings would start on September 30th.  The Sox should go ahead with their plans to add bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops next to the park using parking lot spaces and give Jimbos a chance to move there first.

Game over for Jimbo's Lounge

August 31, 2006

BY MARK J. KONKOL Staff Reporter

Say it ain't so, Jimbo.

The beloved White Sox bar Jimbo's Lounge has lost its lease and will close, possibly before the playoffs.

Proprietors Jimbo and Joyce Levato got the sobering news in a letter last week that their clout-heavy landlords will not renew their lease after 22 years at 32nd and Princeton.

"We're not taking it too well. Jimbo is really upset," Joyce Levato said. "They want us out Sept. 30."

That's the day after the Levatos will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, and a week after the White Sox' last home game of the season.

Joyce Levato said they have no plans to move out that soon, especially if the Sox make another playoff run.

"We've got so much stuff and all the pictures on the wall to get out. I'm not leaving at the end of September," she said. "That's probably when they'll start eviction proceedings in court."

The shot-and-a-beer joint always booms during baseball season, carrying the bar business the rest of the year.

Closest to ballpark

After the demolition of McCuddy's to make way for the new ballpark, Jimbo's became the fans' closest bar.

And this year's sellout crowds at Sox Park have brought standing-room-only postgame gatherings to Jimbo's, drinkers sometimes spilling out onto the sidewalk.

Building owners Raymond and Donna DeGrazia apparently want to open their own business there and aren't interested in renegotiating the lease, Joyce Levato said.

The DeGrazias, who live in Bridgeport, could not be reached for comment.

Like most things Bridgeport, the DeGrazias have a long history with Chicago politics.

Donna DeGrazia is the first cousin of Mayor Daley's close pal Fred Barbara, and both are related to late mobster Bruno Roti Sr.

Donna DeGrazia also works for North Side Ald. Thomas Allen (38th), and her brother, a Streets and Sanitation worker also named Fred Barbara, owns a hot dog stand next door to Jimbo's.

The DeGrazia family also has a history in the restaurant business.

Raymond DeGrazia's mother is the founder and namesake of Connie's Pizza, but the family no longer owns the business.

Joyce Levato says the couple weren't ready for early retirement from the bar business, but opening Jimbo's at another location probably won't happen.

"It's too bad because we had great clientele, a great 22 years. We met great and wonderful people," she said. "A lot of them felt at home here."

I don't think the Palmer House will like it one bit.  Do they know their hotel will basically become a homeless shelter for 3 days?  Many fans last year didn't even have rooms and just camped out overnight in line.  I'm not talking about just a small group of people either, I'm talking 1,000+.  Where are they going to put those people?  God knows how many tickets were counterfeited as the fire marshalls were called when the line just to get into Soxfest got too big on that Friday.  They even had to shut off the escalators to prevent a catastrophe of people getting stampeded upon at the bottom of the escalator.  It's a good thing they did that.  Soxfest 2006 was the worst one I've ever been to and I've been to most of them.

I know this may be a strange pill for some of you anti-Marriotti
Chisox Fans but .......

Calling all MVP voters: Dye the guy

August 31, 2006

BY JAY MARIOTTI SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

We've never seen him with Jessica Alba, Mariah Carey, Vanessa
Minnillo, Tyra Banks or Miss Universe. Visa hasn't called about a TV
commercial, nor have Nike, Gatorade or any local auto-parts stores. He
has no Sports Illustrated covers, no ''Seinfeld'' cameos and exactly
one gossip-column appearance, something about Bella Lounge, where I'm
just guessing women weren't lining up to stuff phone numbers in his pants.

So Jermaine Dye, in any glitz contest with Derek Jeter, is doomed to
fail. The hope is that people who vote for the American League MVP
award are smart enough to look past Jeter's New York-lathered image --
captain of the Yankees, prince of sporting celebrity, $20 million
salary, four championship rings, any starlet he wants -- and realize
the casual, unceremonious family man in Chicago is having the better
baseball season, assuming baseball at all matters in this debate.

Last year's slogan: Win or die trying.

This year's slogan: Win or Dye trying.

Now that David Ortiz is out of the picture -- even if his ticker
checks out fine in the hospital, no designated hitter can be MVP if
his team misses the playoffs -- the race is between two candidates who
couldn't be bigger polar opposites. This is the sort of political
contest that should rile the White Sox and their fans, who have a
legitimate beef about the Yankees-Red Sox axis and how the influential
East Coast media tend to trivialize the rest of the major leagues,
World Series champions included. It better not be viewed as a career
achievement award, a chance for those media to finally gussy up Jeter
with his first such trophy. No, it's an award that should be based
entirely on what happens in ballparks between the early strains of
spring and the end of September.

He's the man in a tough lineup

And Dye has saved the Sox from fading away during their inconsistent
two-month grind. While the starting pitchers have stumbled, other
outfielders have struggled offensively, fellow masher Jim Thome has
fought injuries and Ozzie Guillen keeps making friends everywhere, Dye
has been an island of peaceful dominance. He leads the league in
slugging percentage, is on pace to hit 50 homers and drive in 130
runs, produces reliably in close-and-late situations, has an on-base
percentage near .400 and isn't far behind in the one category where
Jeter has an edge: batting average. The league leader, Minnesota's Joe
Mauer, doesn't hit for enough power yet to be in this conversation. In
fact, you can argue Johnny Damon has been more valuable to the Yankees
and Justin Morneau more valuable to the Twins.

No one in Soxdom questions Dye is the man, even when the lineup
includes Thome, Paul Konerko and Joe Crede. Wednesday night, he helped
his MVP cause not with his power bat but with ... his wheels? In the
eighth inning of a 4-4 game, he singled, stole second and came around
with the winning run. And to think a lot of us -- if I'm fessing up,
you'd better, too -- were having convulsions two winters ago when Ken
Williams signed an injury-battered, high-risk Dye to replace popular
Magglio Ordonez. Turns out Dye already has exceeded Ordonez's best
years with the Sox. And the season still has four weeks to go, days
and nights that will be filled with ''MVP! MVP!'' chants on the South
Side. His chances of staying hot have been enhanced by moving up from
the No. 5 hole to No. 3 in the order, where he presided when the Sox
were romping through the postseason. If he was regal enough to be
Series MVP, why not a carry-over vote for an entire year?

''I don't want to take anything away from other players, but Jeter has
people behind him all year long to protect him,'' Guillen said. ''J.D.
has had A.J. [Pierzynski] and [Joe] Crede behind him. The protection
we have is good, but not great like the other guys have.''

Winning division would help

Dye's signature moment so far came in a loss. Still, it showed what a
force he can be under pennant-race pressure when he homered in the
ninth Saturday off Joe Nathan, the lockdown Minnesota closer, to force
extra innings. This was the first MVP seed he planted. It won't be his
last, though he made clear afterward that individual attention would
be accepted in a team context, just like that big trophy he held in
Houston.

''If I was chosen, hopefully it's because we got into the playoffs and
win the World Series,'' Dye said. ''Winning ballgames is the focus.
Hopefully, if I am talked about and continue to perform, then I'll
look back on it in the offseason and be proud.''

His candidacy will be helped if the Sox win the division, no longer a
pipe dream. They inched a half-game closer to the Tigers, coming back
to beat Tampa Bay after Detroit split a doubleheader with the Yankees.
Just when you want to dismiss the Tigers as frauds, they respond with
another huge late-inning knock, this time a three-run homer in the
ninth from Craig Monroe. But Tadahito Iguchi responded with his own
power statement, followed by Dye.

Please, everyone just focus

It might be nice if the Sox prioritized the playoffs over their
foolish, never-ending participation in Purpose Pitch Justice. It's the
only way to describe Freddy Garcia's Tuesday night plunking of Delmon
Young, the Devil Rays phenom who was decried as a national idiot
earlier this season when he angrily flipped a bat and struck an umpire
in the minor leagues. Guillen strongly denied ordering the hit, but,
of course, he comes off as the beanballer who cried wolf. When the
Blizzard of Oz routinely has pitchers retaliate in these ongoing
little-boy games with a potentially lethal weapon, it's hard to fathom
he didn't put the idea in Garcia's head.

If the Blizzard was trying to wriggle his way into the good graces of
umpires everywhere by hitting Young, it's a strange time and place.
Focus on the playoff race, please.

Thankfully, Jermaine Dye is.

It will be very interesting to see how the Palmer House will handle the crowds especially if they are as large as they were this year.

What a psychopath this Young guy is.  He should be playing for his prison's softball team, not playing Major League Baseball.  Now knowing he's obviously such a hothead, I wouldn't be surprised if many other teams try to hit him as well just to get him either off his game or ejected.

Young plunking furor has Ozzie riled

August 31, 2006

BY JOE COWLEY Staff Reporter

Ozzie Guillen had no problem at all with Tampa Bay Devil Rays rookie outfielder Delmon Young.

He does now.

According to Guillen, Young stared into the White Sox' dugout before his last at-bat Tuesday, as if he was trying to send a message to the Sox manager for getting plunked in his first at-bat of the game.

''I don't play that game,'' Guillen said. ''He looked into the dugout and he looked at me ... and you don't know me. I'm a little upset about it. You don't look at me, you look at Freddy [Garcia] -- he's the one that hit you. He's the one, if you think he had reason to hit you on purpose, to stare at. He was staring at me in the dugout. You've only got two at-bats in the big leagues, kid.

''I've been here long enough that if I hit somebody, it's somebody who's worth it. This kid hasn't done anything in the big leagues yet.''

Young wasn't the only one, however, who had a problem with Garcia hitting him with a pitch in his first at-bat. Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon also thought the Sox were playing Charles Bronson and going vigilante on Young for his infamous bat-throwing incident earlier this season.

Young, the younger brother of the Detroit Tigers' Dmitri Young, had to serve a 50-game suspension for throwing a bat at an umpire in a minor-league game.

''Now and in the future, we will handle our own problems and we don't want anybody else to think they need to discipline us,'' Maddon told reporters after Tuesday's game. ''And I want the word out that that's the last time that should happen. It's over for him.

''It was obvious what they did. Nobody else needs to discipline us. We'll take care of that ourselves.''

The problem with Maddon's argument is that Guillen said both Tuesday and Wednesday that he was fully behind Young's promotion to the big leagues and ripped on Sox fans for booing the 20-year-old. So why would he have him plunked?

Guillen said Garcia ''probably had no idea who the kid was,'' and Garcia confirmed that assumption.

As far as the conspiracy theory that Major League Baseball or the umpires ordered Young hit, Guillen could only laugh at first.

''[Bleep] Major League Baseball,'' Guillen said. ''Like we're going to do something like that for them?''

Guillen was asked if he would speak to Maddon before the game, but he said he had no reason to.

''If they think Freddy did it, I don't blame them,'' Guillen said. ''I will protect my players the same way he is. I like what he says. I tip my hat for that. I read [Wednesday] morning [Maddon saying], 'If something's going to happen to this kid, that's our job.' No [bleep]. But in the meanwhile, if they say we hit him [on purpose], I'd say he's wrong.

''I'm not a headhunter. We don't even hit people when I told [our guys] to hit them. This kid didn't do anything to us. What he did, he admitted it was wrong. How many times has this kid got to say I'm sorry and apologize? That's bullcrap. He don't hurt anybody, he don't rape any kid. He just made one mistake. He knows it was wrong.''

Are you talking about yourself when you say that about not understanding baseball?  Because keeping Vazquez's $12 million option and sending the Sox back to the "Kids Can Play" era with Fields & Sweeney in the lineup along with Anderson is just plain retarded.  The Sox will lose their season ticket base and will be right there where the Indians are this year trying to finish at .500 and watching the playoffs on TV every October.  These Sox are one of the elite teams in baseball now and messing so much with the chemistry is just stupid.  I have to say if that is really what you think then I'm glad you are not the GM!!

**Sure, because there are lots of teams looking to pick up a
$12,000,000.00 pitcher who has shown himself to able to pitch only 5
innings before getting his head kicked in. Talk about not
understanding baseball.
