I had some time on my hands where I needed to go to my happy place today, so I thought through a Yankees lineup. I wanted to see if it raised any interest here in our little group.
LF: Damon/Nady(lefty-righty)
CF: Gardner(speed and defense)
RF: Melky(speed and defense) and with this outfield I wold expect no one-hop singles, a lot of circus catches and everything caught!
3rd: Arod
SS: Derek
2b: Cano(needs to hit)
1st: Posada (Don't get your knickers in a knot, yet)
Catcher: Cervelli/Molina OR a trade of Ian Kennedy/prospect or 2 for a catcher from Texas, they have 3, I want Saltalamachi, all 3 are tradeable according to Texas.
DH: Matsui
Matsui can occasionally play the OF, Daman can DH. I know Nady is supposed to play RF, but Melky's arm can cut down guys trying to make a double out of a single and a triple out of a double and we need that, along with his athleticism. Someone will need to light a fire under his butt to make him hungry but that is a coaching issue. Catching balls against the wall and sliding for bloops is pre-supposed for both Melky and Gardner, as is better hitting. OTOH, we carried Scott Brosious and his .239 average because of his defensive capabilities. I realize these are just starters, but I see Juan Miranda as backup at 1st and Jesus Montero catching is about 3-4 years, if not sooner. I would ditch Betemit and then build up from some minor leaguers and minor trades or signings.
