Despite what you might have heard or
thought we have not missed a riding day
yet -- or gotten wet or covered in sand.
The bad weather all around us means
that a lot of people have stayed out
of Death Valley making it nice and quiet
here.
We did have to change our riding a bit
due to the weather and road conditions
but have passed the 300 miles including
a the long challenging 86-miler to
Scotty's Castle and the hard steep 50
miler to Dante's View with the 14-19%
grade kicks at the end of the 24 mile
climb at half-way before the fast and
fun downhill.
At Dante's View we got treated to a couple
of dog-fighting fighter jets using the
mountains and the valley to out-fox each
other. We did miss the B-2 Stealth Bomber
test flights below sea level the other
day.
A few rides offered good windy challenges
along the way, but the tanning lounging
at the pool afterwarde along with burger
and fries helped in the recovery.
At night we are treated to the milky-way
and treats at the camp fire.
We are determined to reach the 400-mile
mark before packing up Sunday and heading
back to Chico -- although a few are praying
that the bad weather will force us to stay
here another week -- they think it would
be a perfect prep for the MV Circuit Race.
We do hope that Sue and Kim are not ahead
of us in the mileage count -- or is the
weather cutting into Death Valley Chico?
