Sarah –
I’ve tried everything for IT band issues! I had an IT
strap given to me by the orthopedist that I wore for a long time, even during
the day while not running. I also used the cw-x tights. I preferred
those to running with the strap because it tended to move. Fortunately,
the weather was getting cooler so tights were appropriate. I was given as
anti-inflammatory gel that seemed to help. I avoided running hills for a
while, especially down hill. I also started regularly getting massages
from massage therapists who knew about running and running injuries. It
took more than 4 months before it stopped bothering me and still sometimes
sneaks back if I’ve done a lot of miles. If you want more details,
email me privately.

Subject: [WomenRunMemphis] IT Band Syndrome
Has anyone had any luck with any treatments for
IT band syndrome? I went to an orthopedist last fall who just suggested
ibuprofen, a couple of stretches, and cortisone shots. (Ehhh. Didn't really
address the problem.) I've tried the foam roller, too, which only helps a
little. I already missed 1 marathon I trained for due to this IT band stuff,
and I don't want to miss another.
If anyone has found a (non-orthopedist) treatment provider who has effectively
treated IT band syndrome (or if you have other advice), please let me know!
Thanks,
