NSW TRAVELLER'S TROPHY ROUND 2 - 7 October
With trailers snapping and uni work keeping people away, only half a
dozen One Designs made it to the startline at Illawarra Yacht Club for
the second round of the Travellers. A strong North Easterly meant
that the less experienced sailors enjoyed some reaching across the bay
rather than racing; that's fin, the emphasis is on participation so
even turning up counts for the series.
Those who got around the course had some good racing; Roger Crawford
had lots of speed and smarts and took both races, but there was some
good nip-and-tuck racing with the lead changing in both heats. One
Designs haven't raced at Wollongong for years and many of the locals
were surprised when the top Wallies finished mid-way up the fleet
(which included Raceboards, Formula boards, an RSX and Freeride/slalom
kit) despite the strong winds.
The Illawarra Yacht Club fleet were very friendly and local 14 year
old Ben Morrell showed a lot of ability. With the support of the local
chandlery The Yacht Shop, Glen Morrell has some One Designs and
beginners' boards set up, and has been loaned one of the Windsurfing
NSW Barracouta 4.5s. It's great to see that at least four Juniors will
be having fun at Illawarra Yacht Club this season, and we may be
getting some adults returning to the class too.
There were two other new faces for their first interclub event; Alex
from Mac Uni and Trent Billington (12 years old) from DAC. They both
had some great blasting around and are two of the fastest improvers on
the scene. Many thanks to the locals and those who made another the
effort to turn up.
With the MAC trailer out of action, the camping trip overnight had to
be cancelled; hopefully we'll get another chance later.

NARRABEEN RACING
As mentioned, Narrabeen Fleet (perhaps the oldest windsurfing
organisation in Australia??) is having some Sunday events this year.
The first is this Sunday, October 14. Macquarie and DAC sailors will
be joining in so there should be a good fleet.

STATE OF ORIGIN
So far it looks like Mark, Chris and Roger will be heading down south
as a combined ACT/NSW team to take on the might of the Victorians for
the inaugural State of Origin. Reinforcements from north of the border
would be gratefully accepted......those Vicwegians are light and fast!
It should be a fun weekend with a big windsurfing party on the Friday
night.
