Hi all, and especially Murray.Yes, the Windsurfer One Design and Junior One nationals are on at Port Stephens. There has been a slight delay in finalising and publicising the event, because the Raceboard class was going to come along and join us but have now decided to sail at Lake Illawarra.A whole lot of people, including a lot of us who have been there before, reckon that Port Stephens is a brilliant location. I've recently checked with people who have done Wally nationals there and with dinghy sailors from the B14 and Moth classes, and everyone rates the location and the club A1.I'll have a new set of information up in a week or so.There are some charter or loan boards available for people who are coming from outside NSW and Victoria. Johnsy is making five new fully-rigged boards available for $200; thanks Greg. Other boards will probably be available.Murray, it will be great to have you there and I'll PM you! We're expecting sailors from NSW, Victoria, Queensland, WA and hopefully we can get the emerging South Aussies and the Tasmanians along.More news as it comes to hand!Chris

CHRISPort Stephens looks great. I have ear-marked some leave to come across from Esperance for Jan09 OD series, plan to fly to Brisbane, hire camper down to Newcastle/Sydney, and fly home.......but will need to arrange a complete kit board/boom/sail etc (loan/hire) locally as well as book some accom for wife and I, etc. Can you suggest anyone to phone/email for the board? I presume event is confirmed as per your April08 email.ThanksMurray J.Pownall S/c 6953Crime Prevention & Diversity OfficerEsperance Police Station100 Dempster Rd, Esperance W.A. 6450Ph: 9071 1900Fax: 9071 3030

Subject: [WindsurferOD] Windsurfer One Design updateVery sad newsWindsurfers may not have heard that we recently lost one of Australia's greatest. Grant Long, the first Aussie to ever win a World Title, recently died after a long and brave battle with cancer. Grant was always one of the really nice guys; he always seemed happy on the beach and was great to race against. Condolences to his family, including brother Mark and nephew Owen who maintain the family connection with the sport that Grant was so brilliant at.Good newsOn a much happier note, we have received a provisional go-ahead to hold the 2009 Nationals at Soldiers Point in Port Stephens, NSW over the Australia Day long weekend. This is a superb location; clear waters (apart from the occasional dolphin or turtle), a very experienced small-boat club (they recently ran the 90 boat Laser states), and excellent facilities. A large hotel/motel backs onto the club, and there's one caravan park (with tent sites, units, cabins and motel rooms) across the road from that, and two more close by. Port Stephens is a very popular tourist area, just 20 minutes from Newcastle Airport which is serviced by Jetstar, Virgin, and Tiger jets. For more information, check out;Port Stephens at:and the Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic club atThe club site has links to Salamander Shores motel (just behind the club) and the van parks. In the attached pic, the club is hidden behind Salamander Shores (in the centre of the photo, near the jetty) with the closest caravan park immediately to the lower right.<651132209>The plan is to run the Windsurfer One Design and Junior One events in conjunction with the Raceboard Oceanic titles and perhaps turn it into a bit of a longboard windsurfing festival, inviting cruising longboard sailors and SUP (stand-up paddleboard) sailors along as well. The slalom and/or freestyle will be held the day before the long weekend starts, with the course racing and remaining events over the long weekend itself. So that's the plan......so far everyone has been pretty positive. The only real alternative since Kurnell has been ruled out (apart from anything else, the only local accomodation has just been put up for sale so its future is uncertain) is Vincentia on Jervis Bay, but it can be rougher and the accomodation is several k's away.If anyone has big objections to Port Stephens, email me now because otherwise we'll lock it in very, very soon.NEW BOARDSThere's be a run of new boards in June or July. Contact Windgenuity with your order.Chris
