The annual celebration of windsurfing is on this weekend at Kyeemagh.
There's an emphasis on simple fun with GPS speed-gun record runs (may
have a Wally division), marathon and fun racing. There's also a swap meet.
You can take friends along for free lessons, and there's lots of new
gear to look at (not that it will tempt anyone away from One Designs!).
It's all on from 11 am at Kyeemagh car park, just south of the airport.
The forecast looks great. Narrabeen fleet may be going. It would be
good to get some more Wallys down there. Unfortunately Deb, Mim and I
will be OS.
RACEBOARD NATIONALS AND NATIONAL YOUTH TITLES ELIMINATIONS
A bunch of Junior One sailors competed in the trials to choose a NSW
team for the national Youth titles, to be sailed on Bic Techno 293
hybrids. The trials were sailed on Junior Ones. After always showing
promise but never quite breaking through, Brendan Jenkins ended up
dominating to win from Ben Morrell and Trent Billington. Thanks to
Glen Morrell for running the races.
Brendan, Ben and Trent have now been loaned Techno 293s to train on
and race in the Nationals in January. Olympic Bronze Medallist and
Mistral World Champ Lars Kleppich has become a fan of the Junior One
and the sailors it's producing and he has been coaching and World
Youth #4 Alisha Kawalla have been training the squad. We're sure that
they will do well in Melbourne in January - and apparently we'll see
them back on longboards as soon as the regatta is over!
In the afternoons, the juniors sailed in the Silver Fleet of the
Raceboard nationals and again Brendan came out the winner. These guys
are really improving quickly.
NSW STATE TITLES
Here's a draft N o R for the states on 2 and 3 February below. This is
a "home base" states, where we'll race with the two main fleets of DAC
(Saturday 2 Feb) and Narrabeen (Sunday 3 Feb). The Junior Ones will
race in the morning. Silver fleet will be back.
Now we're racing on our home waters and the kids are involved, the
fleet should be a lot stronger than recent years. There'll also be a
pizza night on Saturday at DAC.
We hope to make this the biggest NSW titles for years. More news as it
comes to hand.
