Hi all!
With the 2006/2007 season about to leap upon us, I just thought I'd throw
together a
fairly reliable calendar (errors and omissions accepted) for NSW and also chuck
in some
rumours and gossip.
FAR AND WIDE
Over the past week, there's been an enquiry from Darwin (a very keen sailor
returning to
the class and looking for new Junior and standard rigs to fire up the locals
with) and I still
hear a new board is headed for Hobart. So we've got the north and south ends of
the
country covered!
Word from even further afield is that Houston windsurfer are trying to expand
their
"dinosaur racing" series (held on old "Mk 1" Windsurfers) into a US Windsurfer
One Design
championship. They normally get about 30 entries for their annual round-robin
event. And
on the left coast, a One Design enthusiast is trying to revive fun racing in the
old Fleet #3
in California.
Closer to home, Paul Kelly from Cronulla says that there'll be four or five
Windsurfer One
Designs racing in Port Hacking's Monday night twilight fleet once again. The
Wallies
revived last year and sail with Raceboards.
A group at Vaucluse are still trying to get started for twilight racing. There's
three
veterans, who are trying to get some more sailors together to achieve critical
mass so they
can get something started.
Illawarra YC is moving more of their Juniors across to One Designs for next
season.
The Exocet Kona (the Wally Copy from overseas) is scheduling races for places as
far apart
as the USA, South Africa, Norway and Portugal. They had over 600 entries last
year - proof
that the OD longboard concept works, not that we needed it proven.
And finally, a bunch of new boards are headed for the Yarrawonga Wally section.
WINTER RACING
Both DAC and Parkdale raced over winter. The Parkdalians went down to Sorrento
for a
very cold weekend (results still to come) while the DACcers' four-round series
was mostly
sailed in warm (ish) and sunny conditions. As usual, the One Designs were the
biggest and
most consistent class, ahead of the Raceboards and Dinghies. Chris Thompson won,
with
Deb Apthorp putting in some very good races at the end for second, and
light-weather
expert Steve Barton in third. Marty missed too many races to score, but
dominated the
later events when some traitor moved over to the Lasers. Thanks to all who
supported the
class.
WINDSURFER ANNUAL
I'm still trying to finish a One Design annual, to be used as a marketing tool.
If anyone
feels like writing anything about the class, or throwing some pics around, drop
me a
line....PLEASE!
CALENDAR
Orrrright. Enclosed is a NSW calendar. Tell me if I've missed anything, and give
me any
other feedback.....used bills in large denominations are considered very
acceptable
feedback.
