Obviously the article is speculation. No one can say. I don't know enough to
say either that it is drivel or rational. He seems sympathetic towards Joe and
that's more than many commentators have been.

So I ask Wife, "you know what today is, right?"

And she immediately responds LOI ... I don't think I'd ever used those
initials but this HAS to be a 1st! She's been watching so much PSU football
news since Joe's passing.

This story doesn't make much sense. Lewis supposedly raped this woman multiple
times but she still continued to hang out with him. Huh?

Story by Nate Ellis
ThisWeek Community Newspapers
January 31, 2012

Pickerington police on Tuesday, Jan. 31, arrested Pickerington High School
Central football player Roger Lewis Jr. and charged him with two counts of rape.

Lewis, an 18-year-old senior, turned himself into Pickerington police after
being contacted on Tuesday at school by officers.

He is charged with two counts of rape, both first-degree felonies, of an
18-year-old woman. The incidents are alleged to have occurred in December and
again Jan. 6, according to the Pickerington Police Department.

"It's my understanding (the victim) is an acquaintance," Pickerington police
Cmdr. Matt Delp said.

According to Pickerington police and the Fairfield County Prosecutor's Office,
Lewis had been under investigation for nearly a month.

Earlier this month, he received traffic citations from Pickerington police for
speeding and driving under suspension. According to Delp, Lewis was driving the
alleged victim's vehicle at the time, and she was a passenger in the vehicle.

"The (alleged) victim reported the incidents to the police department after that
traffic stop," Delp said.

As of 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, Lewis still was being processed at the
Pickerington Police Department. Delp said Lewis would be transferred to the
Fairfield County Jail and be held on $250,000 bond.

Delp said Lewis was expected to be arraigned Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Last fall, Lewis had 22 catches for 450 yards and eight touchdowns, returned
three kickoffs for scores and returned a punt for a touchdown for Central. He
was second-team all-league and special mention all-district. The Tigers lost the
Division I state championship game to Cleveland St. Ignaitus 34-13 on Dec. 3 at
Fawcett Stadium in Canton to finish 11-3 overall.

Apparently that subject line should be "Former Ohio State Recruit..."

Story by Tim May
The Columbus Dispatch
January 29, 2012

After several weeks of wondering whether wide receiver Roger Lewis would be a
part of the 2012 Ohio State recruiting class, his high-school coach told The
Dispatch he would be very surprised if Lewis signs a national letter of intent
with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.

Pickerington Central coach Jay Sharrett told Mark Znidar of The Dispatch that
Lewis does not yet have the requisite pre-enrollment test score and that he now
is exploring other options. Lewis visited Ohio University this weekend, and his
coach said he also is considering Marshall and Bowling Green.

Good question. Now the reporters will be complaining because they actually
have to work.

Down here, a story the day after every spring practice.

Golden by the way doesn't hold back. If some kid is doing good he mentions
him, if some kid is doing bad he calls him out. By name.

Sometimes they have a signing ceremony at the school, which is why they don't

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP)--The dozens of signs, bouquets of flowers and other
items left by fans at the Joe Paterno statue outside Penn State's Beaver Stadium
in honor of the late Hall of Fame coach have been removed and stored inside the
stadium to dry out.

University officials say the items were removed early Wednesday morning with the
prior knowledge of Paterno's family. Penn State says the family will have a
chance to review items to decide what to keep or donate.

The bronzed statue had turned into a makeshift memorial since Paterno died Jan.
22, less than three months after school trustees ousted him Nov. 9 as football
coach in the wake of child sex abuse charges against a retired assistant.

Paterno's family announced he had lung cancer more than a week later.

Seeing how open obrien and his staff have been to this point and his willingness
to talk to the media, it will be interesting to see how the cottage industry of
reporting "inside" information survives. Wow, that was a run on sentence. Feel

I suppose the cottage industry will survive on recruiting rumors, because

Subject: National Signing Day: Top five surprises
cbot_kevin
Send Email Send Email

Rivals.com analyst Brian Perroni covers some of the biggest shockers so far on
National Signing Day.

1. Greenberry pulls a stunner

Rivals100 wide receiver Deontay Greenberry had been committed to Notre Dame for
quite some time. He was expected to sign with the Irish on Wednesday, joining
good friend Tee Shepard, who is already enrolled in South Bend. However, the
6-foot-3, 190-pound four-star prospect from California pulled the ultimate
stunner on Wednesday when he chose to sign with Houston instead. Greenberry had
officially visited Houston last weekend but nobody thought much of the trip as
it was thought he was simply doing a favor to Jamie Christian, a new assistant
for the Cougars that was recruiting Greenberry previously at Arizona State. The
nation's No. 49 overall prospect is by far the highest-ranked player to ever
sign with Houston.

2. Davis switches

It is almost impossible for any school to get a top player away from LSU and out
of Louisiana. Alabama received a commitment from five-star Landon Collins last
month and the Tigers took another huge hit when the state's No. 3 prospect,
outside linebacker Torshiro Davis, made a last-minute switch to Texas. Davis was
one of the earliest commits for the Tigers in the class and, as late as Tuesday
night, seemed 100-percent solid to LSU. He ended up holding a late morning press
conference, though, where he announced his intentions to be a Longhorn. The
switch meant LSU was shut out on the top three prospects in the state of
Louisiana.

3. UCLA wide receiver haul

New head coach Jim Mora needed to upgrade the wide receiver corps at UCLA but
the prospects did not look incredibly bright heading into signing day. However,
the Bruins stole a big pledge from California very late Tuesday night in
three-star prospect Kenneth Walker and then continued the momentum on Wednesday.
Four-star wide receiver Javon Williams ended up choosing UCLA on Wednesday
morning and was quickly followed by another top prospect at the position.
Rivals100 wide receiver and U.S. Army All-American Jordan Payton was a very
early USC commit before pledging to Cal at the Army game. He then switched to
Washington a few weeks later to follow his recruiter but shocked quite a few
people when he eventually ended up signing with UCLA. The three pass-catchers
give the Bruins a big-time receiver haul all in the last 12 hours.

4. Five-star flip

Dante Fowler Jr. had been committed to Florida State for 14 months heading into
Wednesday's signing day. The Seminoles simply needed to hold on to him for one
more day than they were able to though. The five-star defensive end decided to
sign with rival Florida. Fowler simply stated that he felt like the situation in
Gainesville was better for him and, on a day where the Seminoles won big, was
the one big hit they took.

5. Miami wins big

Though Florida State made headlines with several very good late pickups, fellow
Sunshine State program Miami also had a big day. The nation's No. 1 cornerback,
five-star Tracy Howard, was thought to be a Florida-Florida State battle just a
week ago. The Hurricanes were a mere afterthought a few months ago but ended up
keeping the local star home on signing day. Miami was not done, though, as
three-star running back Jawand Blue was an even bigger surprise when he switched
from Virginia Tech on Wednesday. The Hurricanes showed that they are a force
again in South Florida.

Subject: Coach O'Brien talks PSU at Super Bowl media day
cbot_kevin
Send Email Send Email

Patriots OC Bill O'Brien is also Penn State's coach, and National Signing Day is
looming. It's tomorrow, actually, and he's midway through Super Bowl prep.

Still, surrounded by media today, O'Brien did his best to keep the focus on the
Pats.

"This is about the Patriots this week," O'Brien said. "I'm thrilled to be the
head coach at Penn State, but I'm really focused on the Patriots and trying to
do the best we can to put together a great game plan on Sunday."

But what about signing day tomorrow?

"Tomorrow night, I'll get a fax of our signees," O'Brien said. "I already have a
pretty good idea of who they're going to be. Again, it's really more about the
Patriots and making sure we're ready for today's practice, tomorrow's meetings
and Sunday's game. So it's day-to-day."

On why he went back into the college game: "In coaching, when opportunities
arise, you never really know when that's going to happen. So when the Penn State
job was offered to me, or we first started talking about the job, I just
realized right away what a special place that was. I felt like I could go in
there and have an effect with our staff there and have an effect on some
17-year-old guys and watch them grow into 22-year-old men and graduate with a
great degree. So at the end of the day, my wife and I and our family, we decided
it was an opportunity we couldn't pass up."

On what it was like at Penn State last week: "Last week was about Coach (Joe)
Paterno. It was about his memory and what he meant to Penn State and to college
football. So it was an emotional time for me, being in the coaching profession.
There's a guy that has been the head football coach there for 46 years. It was a
very emotional time for that team because he recruited those guys and he was
their head coach. Again, I was only up there for a couple days, but you could
see what a special man he was and what he meant to Penn State."

On what he's learning from coach Bill Belichick: "Oh, I don't have all day. I
think the one thing that he does here is he shows you the parameters for what he
wants. 'This is how I want the football team to look. This is the theme or the
themes of this football team.'

"Then he lets you go coach. He lets you be creative, whether you're a position
coach, a quality control guy or a coordinator. He's a very, very bright guy who
has pushed me and demanded a lot of me, and I really thank him for that, because
whether it's Xs and Os or how to put together a team or how to prepare a team or
how to deal with a player.

"I can't count all the ways I've learned from him, but there's a few right
there."

There were five games that month, including a victory against Ohio State and the
robbery in Ann Arbor...

Here's a boatload of prop bets if you want to spice up your Super Bowl party on
Sunday...

http://www.pinnaclesports.com/ContestCategory/NFL+Propositions/Lines.aspx

All of these are against $100. If there's a negative sign you are betting that
much to win $100. If the number is positive you are betting $100 to win that
much.

For instance, the first prop is Will Aaron Hernandez score a TD?

Yes +119
No -139

If you want to bet that Hernandez will score a touchdown, you're risking $100 to
win $119.

If you want to bet that Hernandez won't score a touchdown, you're risking $139
to win $100.

Subject: Daryll Clark: What I Would Have Said At Joe Paterno’s Memorial

So last week, I wrote about how we would have liked to hear Daryll
Clark speak at the memorial, in addition to Michael Robinson. Daryll
agreed and today he sent us his written “Message to Coach”. We really
appreciate Daryll taking the time to write this out for all of us to
read. One of the classiest players we have ever met. Check it out
below.

Daryll Clark: Message to “Coach”

After the memorial some people had asked me if I was disappointed for
not being chosen to speak. My answer was absolutely not, and for two
reasons.

1. Everyone on that stage that spoke a tribute to Joe Paterno we’re
more than fitting for the occasion.

2. The memorial was not about me. It was about sending the Legend off
the best way possible and I personally thought that it was a success.
However, if I was given the chance to speak, this is what I would have
said.

Good afternoon. My name is Daryll Clark and I played Quarterback here
at Penn State during the 2008 and ’09 seasons. First I want to say
that it is a true honor to be here today to speak a tribute to the
coach we all know and love, Joe Paterno.

With every letterman comes a different story on how we met coach, and
that is what is so unique. I enrolled at Penn State the summer of
2005. I met coach Paterno when he and Jay Paterno (QB coach) visited
my high school. My parents were with me. We all sat down in the
Athletic Director’s office and started the recruiting chat. Sitting
across from Joe, all I kept saying to myself was “Is this real? Is
this really happening? Joe Paterno??”

I kid you not, but for the first 20 minutes we talked about everything
BUT Penn State. We talked about school, my family, my girlfriend, my
high school football season; the list goes on. During my recruiting
process no other coach did that. That’s why I knew Joe was the best. I
committed right then and there. Coach told me I wouldn’t play right
away and that when I finally get the opportunity to, I WILL work for
it. That really was all I needed to hear.

The journey began as a freshman. For the first two weeks I was still
at awe of the fact that I play for Penn State; I play for Joe Paterno.
I remember when we would have our squad meetings at the beginning of
every game week. Joe would start to tell us a story about something
that happened way back in the day. Halfway through, players around me
started to look around like, “where is this dude going with this
story?” Somehow, someway, coach would always bring his story full
circle and tie it in with our teams’ current situation – leaving
everyone in the room like, “OOOOOOOO, I see now.” I would say to
myself every time “Joe, you are the man.”

Time would roll by and now I was competing for the starting job. There
wasn’t a day that Joe didn’t yell at me -”Clark, you can’t be late
across the middle!!! Jay if he can’t get it right then send him back
to Youngstown!” I would laugh to myself and made sure I never made the
same mistake again. Before every game I was a nervous wreck. Joe would
always tell me “Just play within yourself, and just watch what
happens.” It worked wonders for me every time.

Joe had a couple of strict rules. To name a few: be clean shaven, 15
minutes before meetings, go to class everyday, check into breakfast
and eat breakfast! As a freshman I didn’t really understand why so
strict. As I got older it all started to make sense, Joe was getting
us ready for life. When you’re starting your first job after college,
you want to be on time, looking presentable, with the intent to better
yourself. When you’re out in the real world you’re not just
representing yourself. You are representing your friends, family,
teammates, coaches and your university. That is what Joe Paterno is
about. Excelling in education and dominating on the field.

The last few months were rough on the Paterno family, especially coach
Joe. The disrespect from the Board of Trustees, the firing over the
phone, and then the worst came – the lung cancer. Through all of this,
coach remained tough and never let us see him sweat, just like I
thought he would do. I made it imperative to visit his home every time
I had the chance to. About three weeks ago I went to his house to
check on him. Sue took me to his room and he was sitting on his bed.
He greeted me with the biggest smile on his face. You would have
thought that nothing was wrong with him. We talked and talked, and
throughout the conversation he would reassure me that everything was
going to be OK. I definitely believed him.

Toward the end, he left me with two things: a jar of gummi bears – he
told me to use them for a midnight snack. Then he told me something
that I will never forget. “I’m so glad I got a chance to coach you.
You were one of the good ones. Thank you Daryll.” Then he kicked me
out because he had to take a nap. The entire Paterno family will
always have a place in my heart. Thank you for believing in me. Rest
Peacefully Joe.

Story by Jake Calhoun
Iowa State Daily
February 1, 2012

Former ISU wrestler Andrew Long was arrested and charged with public
intoxication, serious assault, simple assault and interference with official
acts on Wednesday, according to the Ames Police Department.

Ames Police Investigations Commander Jim Robinson said Long was asked to leave
Mickey's Irish Pub on Welch Avenue around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning but did
not comply.

Robinson said the officers who were called to the scene "observed some punches"
being thrown by Long before he was escorted outside. Long then took off running
when an officer approached him outside the bar and was eventually caught and
arrested.

Long was a runnerup at 125 pounds in 2010 for Iowa State before he was dismissed
from the team in June 2010 for disciplinary reasons.

Granted a release from Iowa State, Long transferred to Penn State to wrestle
under former ISU coach Cael Sanderson for the latter half of the 2010-11 season.
Long would go on to place third at 133 pounds at the 2011 NCAA Championships in
Philadelphia, where Penn State won its first national team title since 1953.

Long was released from Penn State in August 2011 after being charged with
attempted rape, indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault.

Long currently resides in Ames, but is not enrolled at Iowa State.
