The Double Tap Martial Arts Fighting Strategy by Sensei J. Richard Kirkham B.Sc.

The
double tap strategy has been demonstrated to be effective in both
martial arts sparring, tournaments and self-defense situations. Below

strategy....

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Blocking and Striking with The

Blocking and striking with the same
leg or arm? What happened to the other weapons we carry as part of our
bodies everyday? I have to tell you though I've had some good success
with this method of counter-attack, but it does have it's disadvantages
as well....

How to Slow Down or Completely Halt Your Martial Arts Training Progress by
Sensei J. Richard Kirkham B.Sc.

Over
the years, I've seen very successful techniques in slowing down martial
arts and self-defense training to an almost complete stop. I've listed
some of these techniques below, perhaps you're already practicing some
of these....

The Effects of Ego When Teaching Martial Arts by Kirkham

I'm so proud of the fact that I have no ego. It truly makes me the most humble
person I've ever met. Regardless of whether we admit it or not, we all have an
ego. It's what we do with that ego and how we demonstrate it among our martial
arts peers and students which determine how good and what type of instructor we
are....

Greetings all,

Looking to do our part to help the economic recovery, the American Society of
Internal Arts has extended this year's early-bird deadline to May 15th!! ......
that, and there was a typo on our postcard mailing;).

That said, just a quick reminder, there are only 15 days left to the end of the
early-bird discount for the Zhang San Feng Festival, as well as the pre-fest
workshops and, of course, the awesome post-Festival Nine Dragon Baguazhang boot
camp with Dr. John Painter. Make sure to take advantage of the savings!

The annual Zhang San Feng Festival is the oldest and largest Chinese internal kungfu
convention in the U.S. 20+ of the top instructors from across the country are
brought together to offer nearly 60 workshops scheduled over the course of 3
days. Topics include both the martial and healing tai chi, bagua, xingyi, qinna, qigong,
traditional Chinese medicine, Buddhist and Daoist philosophy, and much much more.
Each evening offers events and entertainment including Hall of Fame inductions, keynote
speakers, drumming circles and friendship demonstrations. This year's keynote
speaker is Bill Douglas, founder of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.

For more information, visit www.TaiChiFest.com to see all the workshops,
register online or download the workshop guide and registration forms. You can
also call 973-670-6582.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at this year's annual Zhang San Feng
Festival
.

Yours,

Jim Donnelly

How do people, some of which have never seen snow, celebrate Christmas and the
Holiday Season?

Sorry, not to the lips, but inline with right underneath my own lips
if needed. Generally tan sao should have a fist to fist and a half distance from the chest,
and the finger tips shouldn't be straight up, but at a 45 degree forward...not flat and pointing forward.

 Peace,
 Lin

 Hi,

We keep the finger tips to the lips..too low is not good for protecting the chest.
Forward energy is ther when needed, and receiving energy is ther when needed.

 Thanks for the tips though.

 Peace,
 Aiwei

Hi,

I might suggest trying an angle change for the direction your hands
point during chi sao. I notice both of you frequently have your hands
pointed straight up.
We have found that keeping the hands pointed
directly at the partner's center nearly alwsys helps to maintain the
forward energy focus and takes less time to slip into openings.
We will rarely let the forarms come to a 12 o' clock position,we try
to keep the forearms aiming forward at all times if possible. Some of
us even carry it to an extreme and always keep both the fok sao and
tan sao fingers themselves always pointing forward during chi sao.
On the other hand, I have noticed that when my chi sao partner does
allow his hands to raise too high,or points his hand to the side, it
triggers my reaction to further control his forearm with more
extension using an upward facing palm or similar.
Sometime, just for fun, try keeping your hands and arms pointing
forward and no higher than 11 o'clock, you might enjoy the results.
Cheers
