Sorry, not to the lips, but inline with right underneath my own lips if needed. Generally tan sao should have a fist to fist and a half distance from the chest, and the finger tips shouldn't be straight up, but at a 45 degree forward...not flat and pointing forward.
We keep the finger tips to the lips..too low is not good for protecting the chest. Forward energy is ther when needed, and receiving energy is ther when needed.
I might suggest trying an angle change for the direction your hands
point during chi sao. I notice both of you frequently have your hands
pointed straight up.
We have found that keeping the hands pointed
directly at the partner's center nearly alwsys helps to maintain the
forward energy focus and takes less time to slip into openings.
We will rarely let the forarms come to a 12 o' clock position,we try
to keep the forearms aiming forward at all times if possible. Some of
us even carry it to an extreme and always keep both the fok sao and
tan sao fingers themselves always pointing forward during chi sao.
On the other hand, I have noticed that when my chi sao partner does
allow his hands to raise too high,or points his hand to the side, it
triggers my reaction to further control his forearm with more
extension using an upward facing palm or similar.
Sometime, just for fun, try keeping your hands and arms pointing
forward and no higher than 11 o'clock, you might enjoy the results.
Cheers

I have just written an update on Jing Xin Yuan. A new school is coming soon. 2009, the year of the Cow(Ox), will be an interesting year, and a good start up point for Jing Xin Yuan. Long in the waiting.
I have some very good news for you all. I will be opening a school for my gongfu family right in Bayparkway, Bensonhurst Brooklyn. It is set up as a working Lay Buddhist Educational Cultivation Center, Martial Arts Cultivation School: Wing Chun and Taiji Quan, Qigong and Meditation, and lastly, a Clinic of Massage Therapy and hopefully Chinese Medicine.
I have rooms available for anyone looking to rent and start a practice of Massage or Chinese Medicine.
Check out my website for more info! Anyone looking to help out with some renovations are always welcome. We can use extra helping hands.
I wanted to share a series of short Chisao clips of my Wing Chun Brother Vincent and myself. We haven't touched hands in a long time before this video. Its just two brothers having some fun, nothing too serious.
It begins with clip one, and the rest should follow in the clips box to the right. There are seven videos. Enjoy!
Hello, I just wanted to ask if there are any Wing Chun Schools in
Utah? I plan to travel there soon. I know of Sifu Carlos in Orem Utah
but I was looking for other lineages as well.
Thank You,
-Lee

Robert Agar-Hutton.
For now its an idea. It needs work, planning, and proper timing for the majority. In January I have the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame Banquet and Trade Show to attend to and help my Sifu with that event.
This idea for a Wing Chun Exchange/Meeting is in the works. If it is best for next year, then maybe after the holidays.
Let's work some thoughts on it.
Peace, Lin

Hi There Every One,
I wanted to know if anyone is up for a Wing Chun Exchange?
Basically a coming together of a few families of Wing Chun, and having an exchange of forms, principles, and some applications. Chi Sao and Off Hand exchanges would be encouraged.
Pictures of each family that attends, as a group picture, pictures of the Sifus of the various schools, as well as group pictures of everyone altogether.
Its an idea, and can use some more ideas to fix it up. If anyone is interested, of course.
I would be glad to host it at my school in Brooklyn New York, but of course those attending would have to find their own place to sleep for the weekend.
I am thinking of a Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday morning. One weekend of good old exchanges, some good food and making of good friends. To keep our Wing Chun Families involved in each
other's projects, at least keeping a line of communication and humility open.
We would be on our feet the whole weekend, sharing ideas about Wing Chun, lineage history, Application theories, Forms, Chi Sao and Off Hand exchanges.
As for eating, we can all go out to a good Chinese Restaurant in Brooklyn close to the school Friday evening, and Saturday night. There is a Chinese fast food place next to my school for a quick lunch on Saturday.
Donations would be welcome on or before the date we have the event. Other than that, there is no expense but one's own accommodations they would have to make
We could call it: Wing Chun Meeting and Exchange: Ó½´º½»Á÷´ó»á
My school can fit about 60 people standing. Anyone interested?

You are in?!!!! Sounds great! It would be great to have more come. There are so many people on this forum, but no one says anything!
Whats the deal here? People wrote why they wanted to join at the time of sign up
but no one on the forum knows who anyone is.
Life is busy yes, but I'm sure we can spare a few minutes writing an email, to communicate with many Wing Chun Sifus, brothers and sisters here on this forum. We are a cornucopia
of Wing Chun Families here. Take the benefits while they last.
We'll have to work on when we can have this meeting. it would be a fun weekend.

Very nice form. Their is a school in Fairfax, VA that teaches
Taijiquan. Did notice the soft combined with hard movements, very
nice indeed.
Hi,
Not a form that I've seen before and I assume a modern performance form
horever she is very strong very relaxed very smooth and very flexible -
I liked the performance.
All the best.

Trapping needs proper positioning and distancing. It is learned through technique and manifests as an outcome of proper positioning and sensitivity. So you need proper "range" for the technique..and the technique needs proper range..hahaha
Why bother on if it is one or the other? Practice sensitivity, two man drills, and applications and the realization of utilizing trapping hits you like a ton of ...pak saus!
