US Lacrosse, in order to reach out to more of the membership of the WDIA, is going to sponsor a D2 National Championship in May 2010. The event will run alongside the D1 National Championship. Criteria for placement in either WDIA D1 or WDIA D2 has been approved and every WWLL team fits in one of the two divisions. However, these criteria are not the same as our WWLL criteria for our D1 and D2. I've attached a document showing where each WWLL team fits in the WDIA scheme of D1 and D2.
Please take a look at where your program fits. If you're in the D1 column you have no choice but to stay in the D1 column. If you're in the D2 column you may either stay there or request to move over to the D1 column. That's why I'm writing. The WDIA needs an idea of which WDIA D2 teams might want to be WDIA D1. Please let me know if that's the case for you.
Again, just because you're in WWLL D1 does not mean you are in WDIA D1. You can play WWLL D1 all season in 2010 and be the best WDIA D2 team in our region and go play for the WDIA D2 National Championship. In fact, we are hoping for very little WWLL division movement. Until the WDIA says they want all the leagues across the country to have D1 and D2 (and have those teams in those divisions match up with the WDIA classifications) we are not likely to change anything we're doing.
So, forget about where you are in WWLL divisions right now. If you're in the D2 column on the attached document please let me know if you would choose to be WDIA D1 in 2010.
Thank you,
Paul
P.S. If I've put a team in the wrong WDIA classification, based on the criteria, please let me know. This document is by no means final.
US Lacrosse has reported that eight WWLL teams have applied for WDIA membership and seven of these teams have submitted their membership dues. Here's the list.
Application and Fee
Arizona
Pepperdine
Santa Clara
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UCSB
USC
Application Only
Chico State
The application and related information may be found on this page of the WWLL website.
December 15th is the deadline for the application and the fee. Applications and payment may be submitted up until February1st but there is a $50 late fee. All WWLL DI teams must join the WDIA as a condition of membership in the WWLL. It is also recommended for WWLL DII teams, but not required. If you believe you've applied and/or paid please don't write me. Contact Liz Piper at US Lacrosse. Her e-mail is epiper@....
Please note, if you list an umpire recruit for the $25 rebate it must be a new umpire who earns his or her rating for this coming season. You can't list someone who has already been reffing as your new recruit for this year.
There is a printable invoice on the Shootout page of our team website. Look in the Docs & Forms to Download section.

Dear Coaches & Team Rep's:
Twenty-seven out of twenty-eight teams have completed the WWLL survey. A results summary is available at this link.
Some of the tables are a little tough to interpret at a glance but there's some good information here. The immediate task of the officers is to compile our master schedule and get that uploaded to Arbiter so our assigners may start getting officials assigned to your games. After that I'll be involving the league leadership in discussions about the survey results and how we can use your input to better the league.

Your team schedules are soon due to the assistant commissioners in charge of your division. Those compiled schedules of the entire division are then due to me by December 15th. Timely submission of your schedule along with corroboration of game dates & times with your opponents before you turn it in will be much appreciated.
Additionally, please list tournaments you're attending on your schedule. We understand you don't know your opponents at tournaments. There are various reasons but one is when you turn in results from tournament games we can count them if you've stated ahead of time you are attending that tournament. Results that pop up on your schedule from games or tournaments not listed can't be accepted. This is particularly true for WWLL/WDIA teams but also true for WWLL teams that don't join the WDIA. The other main reason is so I can see where you plan to go and when someone asks me who is attending a specific tournamentI have an answer.
I'm hearing that schedules are reaching the assistant commissioners without accurate dates and times for games you've schedule with other teams. If you don't pin down the game times then your assistant commissioner is going to have to do it. And they have to reconcile the schedules for multiple teams. Please e-mail, call and text (if you have to) the coach or team rep for any game times in questions. The assistant commissioners have enough work to do just matching the schedules up and putting them all on one document.
Visiting teams, if there's a discrepancy on a game time then we are going to go with the date & time reported by the home team. I recommend double checking all those games with your opponent before you submit your schedule. I don't want this to be some huge task for the assistant commissioners. You've had since October to iron out your schedule. We are only collecting it, not doing it for you.
Just a quick reminder that WDIA application deadline is approaching. Applications are due to US Lacrosse by December 15. Attached is the application which needs to be sent with your payment to the following address:

The University of Toronto would like to play in a tournament in the United States but there are none the weekends they'd like to travel. Originally I'd extended an initiation to all the teams in the Ontario University Athletics Association to come to the Santa Barbara Shootout. This e-mail from the coach at Toronto is what came of the invitation. If you'd like to host Toronto one of the weekends their coach, Todd Pepper, has listed then please get in touch with him.
A good situation, since there's no tournament those weekends, would put Toronto playing at three or four schools in close proximity over the course of the weekend. Let's host them if we can and, perhaps, set up a connection between our league and the Ontario University Athletic Association.

I am wondering if you might be able to suggest other tournaments we could attend. The Pittsburg invitational on March 28-29 is full. There is a tournament at ColoradoState on March 27-29 but flights are a little bit expensive and I’d prefer a weekend earlier in March.
Thanks,

Hi Ward,
I'm writing from California. What's the best way to spread the word to all your women's lacrosse teams about our annual tournament? It's called the Santa Barbara Shootout.
It would be wonderful to have a Canadian team or two attend. It might be a nice time to leave the weather in your area and come to a sunny climate too.

The request for a coach or team rep
from each team to fill out the WWLL Survey has been out there for a
while now. The due date for the survey was November 15th. If this
lack of response is an indication of your interest in the league then I
will have to rethink whether I put any effort into league matters
myself. My other option is to just do the minimum to get us through
the season and then resign. Please fill out the survey by November
25th.

We have two spots left in the WDIA Division at the Santa Barbara Shootout. 18 of the 20 spots have been filled. To see a list of the teams that have entered please go to the Forms & Docs to Download section of the Shootout page on our team website.
After the 20 spots are filled we will start a wait-list until we can determine whether we have enough field space for additional teams.
WWLL DII teams...if you want to enter the Shootout in any of the other divisions I suggest you do so right away. I'll be using interest in those divisions to determine whether to make the WDIA Division bigger or not. If you don't register yourself soon I'll close out another division and give the field space to the WDIA Division.

Registrations for the 4th Annual Fall Playday at UCI will be accepted until Thurs, November 13. This is a great opportunity for pre-season scrimmages. Please see the attached flyer for more info or feel free to email uci_wlacrosse@.... See you on the fields!
Michigan State has joined UCSB and Colorado as the third WDIA team to commit to the WDIA Division at Western States, April 4 - 5, 2009 at Stanford University. Official registration opens in January on http://www.westernstateslacrosse.org if spots in the 8 team division are still open. If 8 spots are filled before January then registration will be private. The Open Division for Post-Collegiate, Non WDIA College-Clubs, B Teams, etc. will open in January.
Sunday, April 12th, is the last day anyone can play a league game that counts for play-off standings. WWLL Championships are April 18th & 19th. This year April 12th is Easter so I recommend completing all league games by Saturday, April 11th. If someone is playing an inter-division game (i.e. South DI vs. South DII) or a game vs. a provisional team during the week leading up to championships that is okay. A game vs. a non-league team would also be okay (i.e. someone vs. Tricheck). However, any game within a division (i.e. any DI vs. DI or any DII full member vs. DII full member, regardless of geographic alignment) has to be completed before we pick and see teams for play-offs.
Please make sure you've scheduled all your league games to be completed no later than 5pm on Sunday, April 12th. I've also added this information to the calendar on our WWLL Yahoo group.
The information we get from the survey answers will help us serve you better. I recommend program leaders collaborate on the answers rather than unilaterally answer the questions without consulting at least a few members of your team.
Any necessary corrections may be made using the contact information submission form linked at the top of that page.
Please look for:
1) Your team website link is active and accurate. Click on it to make sure it points to your current team website.
2) Your head coach is listed or at least says TBA if you're still looking, the e-mail address is accurate and the best phone number for that person is listed. At the point you decide you'll be going the season without a head coach then your primary player-coach should be listed here.
3) Your player rep's are listed, e-mail address is accurate and the best phone number for that person is listed.
Hi Sarah,
Yes, I'll take care of it. Be aware when you reply to a message sent
to the entire list that your reply will go to the entire list, not

This is in San Diego. WOMENSLAX.COM has been gracious enough to include WWLL teams in their Surfside Cup and help bring back the SoCAL Play-Day that disappeared a few years back because nobody wanted to host and run it. We need WWLL teams to register for this or the event will go away again. Aside from the fact that you get to play and the refs get to train new refs (which we sorely need) you may also watch four-time NCAA DI champ Northwestern play Denver and Team Canada and Denver play Team Canada. How often does that happen for us?
This is at UCSB. The WDIA Division of the Santa Barbara Shootout has 12 teams registered. If you plan to participate in this event and you want to be in this division you should act quickly. Other divisions aren't filling as quickly but it would be best for teams who plan to participate to register now. A list of teams already enrolled is available from the section of the page titled "Docs and Forms to Download." Registration is available on the Shootout page of our team website.
This is at Stanford University. It features a new WDIA Division with room for up to 8 teams based on field space and the huge number of high school teams that participate. This new WDIA Division means you can play games that count on your record and not have to play scrimmages late in the season, like teams used to have to do at this event. UCSB and University of Colorado, Boulder are participating. There's room for six more teams.
