Hi Matt,
It is true, we did show about 6 of the F1 races this
past year.  However, turnout was pretty low the last 3
races and it is up in the air if I will do it again.
Admission was $5 and beer and food was offered.
Once the schedule comes out for 08 let me know and I
will see if I can show them again.
Thanks for the inquiry.

Fall Roundup

It's been a hectic fall schedule of racing for Team Illuminata Motorsports with most of the action taking place on the dirt.

Photo by Chris AmosAugust 18 saw us at Bob's Family Raceway. One of the farthest venues but also one of the funnest. Guest TIM driver Bob Martin was again sharing the Outback due to his Mazda 323 being unfit for duty. Today the region introduced a new format of 3 runs of 5 laps over the usual 6-8 runs of one lap. This resulted in more overall seat time but required more concentration, particularly after three laps when you actually start to get tired! Main driver, Paul Eddleston ended up 3rd in M4 and unusually, beat Bob by 0.336min. Ryan George surprised everyone including himself to win the class despite hitting quite a few cones. Needless to say he was flying.

September 22 we were at Lenawee County Fairgrounds in Adrian, MI. This was going to be a clean day for Eddleston but he again managed to murder multiple course markers with the Outback managing 2nd in class to Scott Harvey and beating Team mate Bob again.

Back to the parking lots on September 30 for MSCC autocross at Great Lakes Crossing. Though a tiny lot the organizers packed in a chromosome of a course with many loop backs and even a dragway start. The Outback did not appreciate the creativity of the course design and refused to turn-in all day and finished a disappointing 7th overall beaten by a Neon, an STi and four Corvettes.

After the brief asphalt excursion it was back to the dirt on October 13th for the Great Lakes Divisional Championship at Fowlerville Fairground. Team owner Eddleston finished 3rd in class behind teammate Bob Martin and Scott Harvey in this day/night event, again hitting a significant quantity of cones on the way. As a divisional bonus, contingency money was on offer from Team Dynamics, Subaru and Kumho and the Team took home a rather large quantity of the stuff though probably not enough to cover the damage to a nearby Saab incurred when the Team's canopy embarrassingly blew away.

Photo by Chris AmosReplete with a new canopy (in team colors now) and new livery the single driver team set out for Bob's Family Raceway again on November 10th for the Light of the Moon RallyCross so called because it was to be an afternoon and evening event. The new paint must be heavy as driver Paul Eddleston finished a lowly 4th in class as Ryan George trounced the field at his favorite venue again hitting plenty of cones but making up for this with shear speed. Me thinks it might be time for more power for the Outback delivery wagon.

Next and last event of the season is at Fowlerville Fairgrounds on Dec 8th, the scene of Mr. Eddlestons last RallyCross victory and the venue where the tight battle for the 2007 Championship will be settled. The pressure is on.

It is indeed Sat the 17th.  We had thought about going on Sunday to avoid conflict with that meaningless football game, but an overwhelming majority aksed the date to remain the 17th.  Unfortunately word of that idea spread quickly despite being unconfirmed.  We started posting the correct date ~3 weeks ago.

Jim,

Thanks also to you for this endeavor! I for think it was great. (btw I think I owe you about $200 for rentals myself). Plan on seeing that soon. So in the end you may have made a little.

Great job.
Dave

Jim Hardesty <jimhardesty@...> wrote:
With the crushing of the Lebaron and the end of the 2007 season this seems like a good time to review the Rallycross rental.

Overall the rental program went well. Fortunately the Altima stood up well so we always had a running car.

Stats:
21 Different drivers
36 Entries over the year
295 Total runs taken

I think the 36 entries is important for the WOR Rallycross program. That's over $1,000 in entries that might not have come in otherwise. Even if half those people would have entered in a different car, that's still $500 in additional entries. Sweet.

Financially the rental did ok. At the end of the year I am down about $600 combining both the Altima and the Lebaron.

The Lebaron turned out to be a big anchor cost-wise. At the time I bought it, I didn't know that all the events would be at Smoke and Mirrors and I didn't know I'd be able to park it there full time so I registered and insured the car. Plus I had to park it on the street here at home when I first got it. The Lebaron didn't get used much so it doesn't have any income credited to it besides the final crushing. It was pretty much all expense and was down about $300.

The Altima was down about $300 due to a higher initial cost. On the other hand, I didn't charge myself or my Indian co-workers (hey, it is my car) so there is about $300 in shadow income that should be credited to the car. There were some other non-paid entries due to payback for helping secure the Altima and helping move it out to S&M. So the Altima is actually about even at this point and the overall rental experiment is down about $300.

I plan on lowering the rental cost next year to either $20 or $25. And maybe we can do some trading for parts or work. For example I'd really like to get one or two spare wheels and tires for the Altima. Maybe someone can pick up a wheel at a junkyard in exchange for a free rental or two. Or, there are some additional snow tires Pete donated that need to be mounted. Maybe someone could do that in exchange for an entry.

Overall I'm glad I took the risk to get a rental car out there. If we can nurse the Altima along for a while next year I can get back to even and start setting money aside for a new car. Or a wing for the current car.

Allen and Amanda deserve a big thanks for letting me park these cars out at their place. Without that this would have been a much more complicated exercise.

Sweet.

A TSD Rally

A TSD Rally is a fun afternoon drive on the wonderful back roads of central Kentucky with a lot of ýgood camaraderie and food and drink at the end!ý

The Rally requires a driver and navigator in each car. The driver drives and the navigator does ýeverything else.ý

The object is to follow the route correctly and at the exact average speed required (which varies ýmany times over the route) so that you arrive at checkpoints (usually five or six) at exactly the ýcorrect time. For each hundredth of a minute you are early or late you receive one point. (For ýscoring convenience the rally is timed in hundredths of a minute rather than in seconds.) ý

The tricky part is that you will not know where the checkpoints are until you arrive at one. Each of ýthe six legs is scored separately, with a max of 200 or 300 points per leg. You cannot make up for ýbeing late at one checkpoint by being early at the next. On the other hand, if you get lost on one ýleg you can still finish well. The team with the lowest total score for the six legs wins.ý
Each team will be given route instructions which describe the turns to make and the speed to drive ýfor each portion. Sometimes the mileage will be listed. Speeds will always be at or below the legal ýlimit for the road. (This event is a tulip diagram event and every instruction will have a mileage.) A ýtulip diagram is a schematic of an intersection as if you were looking straight down on it. You enter ýthe intersection from the direction of the bulb and leave the intersection in the direction of the ýarrow. Because we give the mileage of each turn it makes route following very simple. ý
The first part of the route is the odometer run, which contains no checkpoints and is provided for ýyou to compensate for any difference between your car's odometer and the one used to set up the ýcourse. You are given a set amount of time (usually 25 to 30 minutes) to run the odometer run ýwhich gives you time at the end to do any calculations you may wish to do ý

Cars will leave the start at one-minute intervals. ý

When you see a Checkpoint, continue driving until you pass the “Official Checkpoint Sign.” The ýworker will record your time as you pass. ý

Pull to the side of the road after you pass and send one person from your car to take your score ýcard to the official to record your "in time" to the checkpoint. You will also be assigned an "out time" ýý(when you should leave the out marker, two minutes later). You will receive a control data slip ýwhich contains the "out marker" (the point from where you leave the Checkpoint and start the next ýleg, usually around one tenth of a mile past the checkpoint sign). The data slip will also show the ýcalculations showing the times and distances for the leg. (The checkpoint workers do not usually ýhave time to calculate your score, however all the information in on the score card to allow you to ýcalculate your score.)ý

Sometimes the Rally master plans a break. This will be noted on the instructions.ý

Equipment

A stopwatch, clipboard, pens/pencils, and four-function calculator are permitted and recommended ýý(but many people do rallies “by the seat of their pants” with no equipment). ý
City Lexington
State or Province KY
Postal/Zip Code 40501
Maximum Entries 30

Sorry OSU fans, but logistically it's just plain easier for us to run a Sat event.  We WILL have TV's for scoring updates......

Heh. Poor LeBaron.

That thing had a hard life. I beat the crap out of it for years, and
apparently I did manage to make it terminally ill. It was good to see
how it was euthanised. (I can't spell)

Sorry I broke it. :( I'll find another piece of junk somewhere (that
i'm not currently driving).

Anyone want a 1985 Cadillac Eldorado? It's 4 or 5 colors right now.
Just needs paint and a fresh tank of gas.

Jim,
A sad day indeed....A chariot who's competitive spirit belied it's K-car pedigree. Although I was never fortunate enough to enjoy the car's performance supplied from it's adequate power plant, I feel somehow connected to the spirit of community and competition that it tirelessly fostered.
