On Saturday May 15 WCCTriathlon has organized a demo night at Push Hard Multi Sport in Peekskill from 6:00 to 9:30 PM.
Josh Gold will conduct a video analysis of your swim stroke and running stride so bring your swim suit, running shoes and shorts. There will be a variety of wraps, salads and beverages while the video tapings are analyzed.
Push Hard Multi Sport is located at 8 John Walsh Blvd., Suite 130, Peekskill, NY
Telephone (914) 734.7194
Please do your best to attend and kindly RSVP to me by e-mail or phone.
you are right, the bike course is on the parkways and consists of two loops marked by cones. You must ride on the right lane as the center lane is reserved for official and emergency vehicles. The course is essentially flat.
The runs are of the out-and-back kind. They both start with a fairly steep downhill and, of course, end with a fairly steep uphill (less than a quarter mile). Except for the up and down parts, the run is on a nice path with no motorized traffic whatsoever.
I'm thinking of doing the Queens Bi on May 16th. Most of the bike course seems to be on the Grand Central Parkway and Cross Island Parkway. Would be interested in any feedback/comments/advice on the course.

Just want to give snaps to “Sprockets”
bike shop in Port St.Lucie, Florida. I am down here to visit family and they hooked me up with some
great routes and two group rides.
Now I know why Frank spends his winters
down here.
I was riding north along A1A highway this
morning watching the sun come up over my shoulder. And not a hill in sight J
I will be back in time for the Bronx Bi, see you there.
Polly,
There's an A ride at Harriman.Bear Mtn. Saturday at 9AM - it's 50 miles
with plenty of hills. Doubt that anyone else would be running
afterward though.

One month to go!!!! I'm getting excited, but also kind of nervous.
This winter has been a royal pain.
The ride schedule shows no B+ ride for Saturday April 10.
I'll be riding out of SUNY at 9:00 AM sharp for a 44 mile loop to Bedford, Greenwich and back. A flattish ride. Last time we did it last year the average speed was 17.3 This goes for the seasoned B+ riders.
For those of you who wish to make this a "Moving up to B+" experience, the target pace will be 15.5 and I'll be glad to lead this group and no one will be dropped.
Rain, snow, hail and ice (or a menacing forecast thereof) cancel the ride.
Call me if you have questions (not later than 11:00 PM please)

In all the excitement I did not hit the
lap button on my watch going in and out of the transition area. My bike time
was off the bike computer so my transition times are mixed in with the run
times. My bike speed average mph was 21, cadence average of 91 and the power
average was 236 watts. I have a Polar HRM with the power accessory attached, it
give all kinds of cool stuff to look at afterwards J
Thanks again for your help,
George

Hi George,
considering that in
your first duathlon you finished 8/75 in your age group (one of the most
populated and competitive) and 48/465 overall, there is no doubt that you did
quite well.
You are a fast runner
and you should definitely position yourself way up front for the first run.
To further analyze
your performance I'd like to know your transition times and your average speed
on the bike.

It was great to meet you all at the race. I had a really great time at my first event. I can't wait for the next one.
My thoughts have been on what I need to do to improve my time. I hope some of you can help. As best as I can figure, my race broke down this way: 1st run 15:10 Bike 36:39 2nd run 15:35 Total 1:07:24
I felt like I could have run the first leg faster, but I lined up pretty far back and it was difficult getting through the crowd the fist 1/2 mile or so. I went as hard as I could on the bike and I passed way more people than passed me. I passed a few people on the final run. My average HR was 174 for the event.
From this limited info, can anyone offer up some suggestion on what I should work on?

In case anyone is still in need of accomodations at Tupper Lake, I am holding a reservation at the Mountain Gate Motel for a friend who will not be doing the race. The motel is located about 10 mins from the center of town, heading toward Cranberry Lake (along the bike route). The room has two double beds. If anyone wants to take over the reservation please let me know.
If you are looking for a new kind of racing experience, or training for the upcoming Triathlon/Duathlon season, I'd like to recommend a unique race in Van Cortlandt Park, in the Bronx. The date, April 4th, is just before the upcoming Bronx Biathlon.
The "Urban Environmental Challenge" is a true trail race. It's not a cross country race, but it is run on singletrack trails in the back hills of Van Cortlandt Park. It is 6.3 miles long, with 2 water stops.
The Challenge is organized by runners, for runners. The course is technical, but fast. It is well marked, and marshaled, by the members of the Van Cortlandt Track Club.

Hey everyone,
There is a time trial coming up on April 25th, it's 10 miles and
USCF
sanctioned.
You can follow this up with a metric century ride in the beautiful
Gunks in
Wallkill, NY. (across the river west of Newburgh).
Bob and I participated last year and we
found the time trial well organized, fun and the scenery and ride a
great
time.
There are also 50, 35 and 15 mile options.
They have a giant barbecue afterward,
chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cole slaw, pizza and free beer!!!
Advance
registration is $25 for both the time trial and the tour & the food
(you do
have to purchase an event license from USCF $7, if you are not USCF
licensed,in order to enter the time trial).

The event is well worth the drive (about
an hour). Hope to see you there..Barb
I've started looking at the race calendar, and penciling in a few
possibilities. It would be fun if we could target a few races that
we could travel to as a group.
Keep in mind, I'm rather biased to sprint triathlons. However a
couple of these events either have a concurrent duathlon, for the
swim challenged, or a 1/2 Ironman for the distance junkies.
I have also added my two cents worth when I've done a race before.
June 26th, Mooseman Triathlon (Sprint), Waterville Valley, NH.
This is a new race, but the organizer puts on great events, and I'm
sure this will be a good one. On the 27th they are having a
mountain bike tri.
July 11th, Mossman Triathlon, (Sprint) Fairfield, CT.
USAT New England Regional Sprint Championship.
July 24th, Sunset Sprint Triathlon, and Duathlon, Bridgeton, NJ.
A really nice course. Bike course is flat, and the run is on shaded
trail. Fills up pretty quickly, and one of those races that you
should spend the night.
August 8th, Greenwich Triathlon (Sprint)
Got to love a race that's less then 30 minutes away. Now that my
age is ending a zero this season, I can live with the 10 year age
groups.
August 15th, West Point Triathlon (Sprint)West Point, NY.
The cadets put on a great race. Where else can you be addressed
as "sir" or "Ma'am" by the course marshalls, and volunteers?
August 21st, Timberman Sprint, August 22nd Timberman 1/2 Ironman.
Lake Winnipesaukee, NH.
I will be doing the sprint on Saturday. This is a beautiful, and
cahllenging course. It's is a really well run race, and they give
really nice things in the goody bag. Last year the two races were
on the same day. This year they're having them on seperate days.
The really hardy souls can do both. I might be persuaded to be part
of a relay in the half iron on Sunday. I will swim or bike, but
forget the run!
September 18th, National Age Group Championship
Shreveport, LA.
I hope they make some changes in the course, but would love to
qualify for Team USA again, because the Worlds are going to be in
Hawaii.
Sept. 26th Westchester Triathlon (Olympic Distance), Rye, NY.
Another race close to home, and raises money for a good cause. I
will be doing again with Team in Training.
I know I've left out all the NY Tri club races, but one can only
pick so many.
Let me know if anyone would like to join me on one of my various
road trips this season.

This sounds really fun! Whoever put up the "it would be nice to get a group of WCC people together for it" (Lou?) can count me in. For the TT and ride...assuming my legs are enough out of "winter mode" by then that I won't fear abject humilition (humiliation is one thing; abject is another)
