I just noticed that Swimpower (Steve Tarpinian - who has sometimes
organized the Westchester Tri) is running a half-ironman in Montauk on
October 3rd this year
- see http://swimpower.com/2000/races.cfm . I believe this is the first
time for this event and I think it's the only race of this distance run
anywhere in our area in the fall. I've done other events Swimpower
has put on (Mighty Hamptons) and those races have been very well run so
I would expect the same for this one.

I like the idea of a 1/2 ironman in the fall as the others I've done
have been in the spring and I've struggled to train for them, especially
for the swim, as I really don't much favor swimming indoors in the
winter and it's hard to get in long bike rides until May. Is anyone
else interested or considering this race?
