Great ride this morning with Dan, Michael and Roger. Roger, I'm posting your comment publicly because I think it drives the point that we've been repeating in my classes, what most indoor riders feel is "flat road" is really frictionless riding in a vacuum. A flat road still has resistance, so yes, the resistance you felt in the "cruise" sections is the resistance that you should be using when riding indoors. We similarly raise a treadmill to 1% or 1.5% grade to simulate both the rolling friction and wind resistance of running outside. On a bike the wind resistance on a flat road is still significant and you always have rolling resistance based on your weight, size of tires, road conditions, etc...
