That sounds great. But, I'm using a level 3 Olympic training plan and you guys are way out of my league. Maybe next year. Or, maybe some of us lightweights could form a sub group. What do you think?
I know Diane and obviously have raced along side her many times.
It's actually kind of funny. We both have many of the same friends and
yet we've never been formally introduced. It's one of those funny
things where a neighbor of mine will say "I just saw Diane at the club
and she said she really wants to meet you." Or me saying to another mutual
friend, "I heard Diane got really sick last month and it took her out of
her training. How's she doing?" I think I know more about Diane's
training than some of the folks that I coach. It's a little Tom
Hanks in You've Got Mail J
As for training, last season we posted bricks on this forum
whenever we were going to do them, including a 8-mile time trial run from 9W to
Lake Tiorati, a Harriman. Bear Mountain Brick, a bunch of WCC rides that we
turned into bricks just by letting folks know that was an option, and even the
Montauk Century we treated as a brick and ran around the lake after we were
done before getting on the train to go back to Babylon.
We'll also be doing the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon and
turning that into a biathlon of sorts as one of our team members has a lake
house so we turn the weekend into a bit of a tri camp with open water swimming,
riding and the half marathon, and then I'll be going out to Los Angeles
in March to turn the LA Marathon into a brick workout as well with a few of the
Race with Purpose team members and a number of the team members on the USC
Triathlon team.
As for Tupper Lake weekend, we race on Saturday and then we have
a house in Placid so on Sunday morning, we ride off one or more loops of the
IMLP bike course and follow it up with a swim in Mirror Lake before heading
back down south.
I train with folks in Northern Westchester
mostly. There is a Masters swim at Club Fit Jefferson Valley. Some
of us are very serious and place ag, but most of us are in it for self
challenge. WCC has not posted rides specifically for tri training and I
think it could be a way to get new people into the sport.
Adam, do you guys train with Diane C? She is a friend and I taught her
kids.
Congrats
Josh. There are a bunch of us that are out here, although only a smaller group
actually gets together to train on a regular basis together (Javier, Jackie,
Eve, etc…). It's a great group of people, very supportive of each other
and very interested in each other's success.
During
the winter most of us are doing base training but there are still opportunities
to ride. For example this Saturday, I'll be riding down into the city from
Scarsdale and then running the little NYRR Holiday 4-miler in Central Park
before heading back up. There is also a new coach over at the White Plains YMCA
leading the masters swim classes if that is of interest to you. On Sunday's you
can find a bunch of us over at Rockies starting from SHHS anywhere from 7am to
8:30am based on your preference and schedule.
In
short, Westchester is a great place to train for triathlon (Screw Austin! ;-)
As for
races, a fairly large group is going to be training for and racing the Tupper
Lake Half Iron and a few people like Javier will be doing their first Ironman
this season, GO JAVIER!!!!
The response to Katie's talk of tri training on
WCCChat made me wonder
who's out there - so, who's doing what events next year? I'm doing my
first tri in April (lavaman).

I actually was more worried/interested in the running paces, at the Sunday rockies runs and the bricks - do people split off into different pace groups?...
