Greetings all,

I'm planning to go up to Wassaic this Sunday to ride the Harlem Valley
Rail Trail. I'm excited to check out the trail, which I've never been
to before.

Can anyone tell me where would be a good bike-friendly place in
Millerton to stop for a quick lunch, and would there be any other good
places to sightsee there before heading back to Wassaic?

Thanks!

Thought folks might find this article interesting about a 17 year old,
Ben Lubkin who is riding 1,300 miles through Europe beginning
tomorrow. Ben has joined a few of my group rides from The Journal News
and is a terrific young man. He has a rare bone disorder and has faced
16 operations over the years. Ben has also been rewarded two years in
a row with journalism awards from the paper and will write about his
month long experience when he returns.

So you might want to figure out a time to do it and a starting point, and post it. As they said in that move, "Roads of Dreams," post it, and they will come. I think it starred kevin costner.

Folks,
It's not easy to bike commute from Rockland to Westchester. But few
folks know that the Tappan Zee Express - the Rockland County bus
system - has special bike compartments in each of its 21 buses, which
has places to lock in two bikes.
Since 9-11, Westchester authorities have prohibited Rockland from
using those compartments, citing the threats to security because
someone could put a bomb in the compartment and detonate it at the
White Plains Transcenter. This decree remains, seven years after the
World Trade Center bombings.
I feel like it's time to lift this ban and have begun some spade work
to get to the bottom of this misguided public policy, which unfairly
penalizes bike commuters. I've have my peeps within Westchester County
helping me figure out who made the ruling. Think about it - cars
drive in and out of the Transcenter daily, perfectly able to carry and
bomb and do whatever damage someone would like to inflict on the
structure. But the authorities don't bar cars from the parking garage.
They have selectively targeted bike commuters, who they determined
would squirrel bombs in the compartment with their bikes.
Is there anyone over in Rockland who would like to work with me on
this? I think it's a really good issue.

- Dave Wilson

Oui!
Nothing against the French, but while the dollar is at an alltime low, European travel is Tres Cher!!!
I was only suggesting that Quebec is an excellent alternative given the current economy.
I also don't like the expensive sandwiches they foist on you with a "spread" of this or that.
Nothing like a good American Deli sandwich.

Nice, but except for Mont St. Michel, most of the photos could have been taken in NY, CT or Maine of Quebec.
Lots to see w/o flying over an ocean and eating expensive crappy cheese and lettuce sandwiches!!!

Subject: [WCCChat] Great photos of France from a cyclist

I belong to another forum totally unrelated to cycling. However, one of the members
posted photos from his recent biking trip to France. They're wonderful and I think many of
you will enjoy them. Here's the link: http://www.biketouringtips.com/France.pics/preview.html

Here's some of his commentary:
"I just got back from 6 weeks in France. Four were spent on a bike; two were spent in a
car. I took hundreds of pictures during the bike tour and have chosen a "few" (125) and
posted them without comment. They will give you a pretty good idea of what riding a bike
through 1100 miles of French countryside looks like. I will create a fully commented
journal some day. For now, these pictures are a start."

In reply to a question from another member about the injury photos, he wrote: "I
wondered if I should include the injury photos. They are meaningful to me as I was the
one whose body turned all those purple colors. I would guess that most people don't care
much about them. The curb cuts (where the car driveways are) in France are ridiculously
high. I tried to go up one at too narrow an angle and the bike and I went down hard. I
cracked some ribs, gashed my elbow (2 stitches needed), and bruised my left hip
something terrible. Oddly, though, the place that hurt the least was riding the bike.
Thus, the tour continued with little interruption. The hardest thing to do was lay down in
bed. Go figure."

Very cool.  Except the one showing his horrendous biker tan...I mean bruise.
