Hi:
On a positive note – many motorists have
been giving me the right of way to cross Rt. 35 – if I give them a chance to
slow down and even stop for me. Also, I have seen a decrease in harassment of
cyclists by motorists in the long term; but, with this heat wave, beware – the
harassment will begin again – I have even seen bicycle rage on the bike trail on
a very hot day.
In Summary: When the Yorktown Police force
begin the implementation of Police Cyclists, and police become bicycling-aware;
that is when the X walk laws will be enforced. Right now, the Yorktown Police
only enforce the most blatant disregard of traffic violations.
