This has been the case for as long as the X walk has been there; be careful.

On a positive note – many motorists have been giving me the right of way to cross Rt. 35 – if I give them a chance to slow down and even stop for me. Also, I have seen a decrease in harassment of cyclists by motorists in the long term; but, with this heat wave, beware – the harassment will begin again – I have even seen bicycle rage on the bike trail on a very hot day.

In Summary: When the Yorktown Police force begin the implementation of Police Cyclists, and police become bicycling-aware; that is when the X walk laws will be enforced. Right now, the Yorktown Police only enforce the most blatant disregard of traffic violations.

noticed as i was crossing the rt35 crosswalk that cars were total
ignoring the crosswalk even though i was walking my bike across and
the yield to pedesterians sign looked like it was run over and
knocked into the bushes, pretty classic bad car driving habitsm
speeding through crosswalk with cell phone on ear!
