Bicycle and Parts Swap Meet...   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #433 of 3330 |
I'm not too sure how many club members participate on WCCChat, but I thought I would throw this idea out into our world and get some feedback.  A bicycle and parts swap meet is an opportunity for everyone in our cycling universe to get together and swap, trade or sell bicycles and their parts.  Swap meets have taken off in various parts of the country where cycling is big and people can find such deals as a frame to turn into a fixie, find that perfect colored saddle, or rid themselves of extra arm warmers they don't use.  Such an event is perfect for the person who likes to putter or wishes to add to their stable.   Obviously, the more people involved the more successful the swap becomes.  I would envision such an event being opened to other clubs in the tri-state area..

I have bounced this idea off of our Prez, David Wilson, and he was receptive, assuming I host it, but concerned that an event such as this might conflict with club's already established bicycle collection drive.  I certainly don't wish to step on the efforts and bounty this club has achieved donating to 'Pedals for Progress', but I think a swap meet can be held at a different time of year and also be held at a "different plain" than what would typically be collected or donated.  Most our membership use modern, sophisticated, and expensive bicycles and equipment and parts, not typically given as donation.  Some of you are constantly upgrading, buying the latest and greatest, letting the used parts sit on your shelves, or placing them on auction on eBay.  It is this level of equipment I'm addressing here and it is by this means I think we can help you clean house.

Please understand that no such meeting has yet been planned, there's no date, no location.  This is simply the result of two brain cells bouncing off one another, and trying to determine if it is an event worthwhile in putting together,  that people would be interested in participating.  If you have added suggestions, I'm open to them.

Thanks,

Kevan Full
