Read this item on the East Coast Greenway newsletter.
After hearing of many close calls and even injuries and deaths caused by riders
being hit
by car and truck mirrors, this law sounds sensible.

Florida recently passed legislation (H.B. 7079) requiring that "the driver of a
vehicle
overtaking a bicycle or other nonmotorized vehicle must pass the bicycle or
other
nonmotorized vehicle at a safe distance of not less than 3 feet between the
vehicle and the
bicycle or other nonmotorized vehicle." Arizona, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Utah, and
Wisconsin also have similar laws on their books. Congratulations to Florida for
being the
first ECG state to pass this type of law!

A bigger question would be how to make sure they are all aware of it. But you have to start somewhere. Better to have an ignored law than no law at all. ...
