Jim Swigart organized a a group for the 125. We are going to meet at Jim's car
at 7 am.

It's a strong group, I think the pace will be over 19 mph. Let me or Jim know if
you would like to join us.

I had to change the route for the Judystock A ride tomorrow as one piece of dirt
road got into the mapping by mistake and another might just not be good to use
after the rain today.

So after popular demand I added a little extra going up Bear Mountain and kept
us on larger roads:

Roughly go down Adams Corner, Crofts Corner, Putnam Valley, onto 6/202 crossing
Bear Mountain Bridge, TT up the hill, back again, 9D to Cold Springs, 301 all
the way back up to the West Branch Reservoir and back to Mahopac.

Will do a cue sheet of that later today.

Hope a bunch of folks come over for that.

On June 27, 2009, I will be participating in a 1.5 mile open-water [cold!] swim
from Greenwich to Stamford, CT to raise money for cancer research. Swim Across
America, a non-profit organization running the event, has been organizing these
events for over 20 years….and we need your help!

Swim Across America is comprised mostly of dedicated volunteers who are making a
difference in the fight against cancer.

You have the chance to help others bring the cure closer and support me in my
swimming efforts with a donation. I would greatly appreciate any support you can
give. I am trying to raise $1000 and am optimistic that I can surpass that.
Learn more about the event and the beneficiary at www.swimacrossamerica.org.
Once there, you can click on "Our Events" and click on the "Greenwich/Stanford".
You will see a "sponsor a swimmer " link, where you can search for me. The rest
is pretty straightforward.
I am swimming to honor my patients:  past, present, and future.

All contributions are tax-deductible. If you would prefer to send a check,
please make it payable to Swim Across America and send to Swim Across America,
14 Little Ridge Road, Ridgefield, CT 06877.

No donation is too small. Thanks you SO much for supporting this cause!

All,

I went to visit Jerome Jousse today. FYI, he is at the Westchester County
Medical Center/Trauma Center and NOT Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount
Kisco. I would sum up his current condition this way: He's in good shape for
the shape he's in. Given the multiple trauma he has sustained he is really
doing remarkably well and is in great spirits. It's likely that he will stay in
the Trauma Center for at least another day. They have him eating and drinking
now and he is capable of ambulating on his own (although he needs help getting
in and out of bed because of his bruised ribs). His broken/bruised bones/road
rash will all heal just fine but in the meantime he will not win any beauty
contests as his face is still quite raw from the trauma. Either way his wife
assured him that she will still love him (although she did mention something
about future plastic surgery...).

It will likely be some time before he is able to get back on the road again and
we both came to the same conclusion that his riding season is probably over for
this year. But he is on the mend and appears to have avoided any siginicant
sequelae from his head injury. I think he'll be just fine but I will miss him
out on the roads.

Two crashes on Gimbels today. Anyone have more details? This is what I know.

Jerome Jousse hit the groove on the top of 172 and went down hard. He broke his
collarbone and smashed his face. Apparently there was blood all over the road.
Dale Malkames spoke with him and he is in good spirits. He is staying overnight
at the hospital. Too bad, as Jerome was really strong this season.

Also Vince Marrone went down on the regular ride and broke his pelvis. No other
details.

Not a good day.

Hope Jerome and Vince have a speedy recovery.

Just noticed on the weather forecast that it is supposed to be 63 degree and
partly sunny on Friday. As rain is probable tomorrow and over the weekend, I
will move work and ride at least 60 miles, leaving 3pm from Sleepy Hollow High
School.

Cannot post to ride schedule anymore (Joe - you might), so whoever likes to join
swing by.

A-speed. As hilly as possible. Going north from Sleepy Hollow.

YES! but ideally not the July 18th one, but the May 23 (if that
happens - don't fully understand the note on the top on the website).

I'll be doing the Ironman Nice, i.e. Alps, on June 28 and this ride
would be a fabulous training ...

Hi guys,

I am doing the "Bicycle Tour of Colorado" in June of this year. It's
550+ miles in the rockies, over 6 riding days with a rest day in the
middle at the ski town of Crested Butte. I did this ride in 2006 and it
was AWESOME. The route is different every year so I've only ridden
about 70 miles of the 2009 route but they do include the most excellent
ride I've ever done (that would be Independence Pass, 12,100 ft high
above Aspen).

It would be great to have some WCC riders on this. If you can swing a
week off without the wife and kids, go for it. It's also a cheap
vacation, the tour costs under $500. It's very well organized.

Here's the link:

This will actually force me to train up this year too (unlike last year
where I pretty much sucked).

1) The Mt Greylock road is closed until 2009. If anyone has interest
in a Catskills ride with a similar plan let me know.

2)FYI the Golden Apple is coming up on Sunday the 14th. I will be
riding with a small group on the 125 mile route.

The idea is to register at 7 and leave at 7:15. Look for me in front
of the tables wearing a club jersey. Hopefully we will ride sensibly
on the hills.

We have had groups of 10 or 12 in the past, but I think this year
there will only be 3 or 4 riders, although we might pick up more.

I was there last year, it was closed, and the ranger told me it was
scheduled to be open in 08, but it is a good idea to check.

As of earlier this year, the Berkshire Cycling Club website said the Mt.
Greylock road was closed to all traffic for repairs until 2009. (I rode it
in 2006 and it was in terrible condition.). You might want to check that
it's open again.

From Jim Allen

"How about a trip up to massachusetts to do Mt. Greylock. Something
I've always wanted to do. Saturday Sept 27th should be beautiful.
Takes about 2 hrs I think to drive up there, we can make it a 60-ish
mile ride with one or two climbs to the top (there are roads up from
both the north and south).

I could drive a total of 5 riders with bikes in my van.

Jim Allen"

This sounds like fun to me, would anyone like to join us?

Sorry about the duplication if you already got is message,

I will be leading the somewhat hilly Up, up and away out of Millwood
on Saturday the 23rd at 8 am. The ride will regroup after the hills
and at the break.
