The club is looking for photos for the annual holiday party. Every
year we show photos in a rotating slide show. Photos are fun to watch
and see who you know, or find out what someone looks like without a
helmet on!

We will be projecting the slides at our annual holiday party. This
year it is December 11th, at Coromandel's in New Rochelle. The food
is great, and the company is even better.

Photos can be of any club member, trip, ride, or anything else related
to bikes or cycling. Pictures with club members are prefered, but
photos of cycling trips with only bikes in them work just as well.
You can also submit photos of club members doing non-club things or in
non-cycling clothing, and the audience will try to figure out who they
are! It's fun to watch and see who you can recognize in the 6 seconds
each photo is displayed.

If you have photos, slides or negatives, I can scan those as well.
Slides or negatives are prefered, as they will make a better scan.
Digital photos you can just email to me directly. Mail all photos,
slides or negatives to WCC, PO Box 686, White Plains, NY 10602. I
will scan them and send the orginals back to you pronto. I can also
email the scans back to you if you give me and email address.

Send your photos directly to me at this address, or to
bruce at wells dot name. You have to do some text substitution to
make that email address work, but you should be able to figure it out.

If you have any questions, just respond to the group, and I will
answer them.

Get me the photos by December 10th, and they are in the show! Then
come to the party on Decenber 11th, enjoy great food and drink and
have fun with the best of the best cyclists in Westchester.

Party On!

Bruce Wells

Weather is looking questionable for my 9AM A- ride on Saturday. If satellite
images are showing a lot of rain in the area at 7:30AM the ride won't go.
I'll send a email either way at that time - hopefully it'll be a go.

There are so many questions I would want to know, but the bottom
line is he needs to seek out medical help.

1 was he wearing a helmet and was it cracked after the fall did he
having any bruising around his head neck or on his body outside of
hands. wearing a helmet only reduces the incidence & severity of
head inj.
2. How fast was he going and what type of surface did he hit
3. Was he cleated in or rat traps or just regular pedals
4. Did he go to the hospital or see a dr. after the insult.
5. How old is he
6. What kind of medical HX does he have?
7. How heavy is he.
8. Was he accelerating decelerating or keeping a constant speed.

It depends on how much energy was being used. If you had a lot of
energy you could have bi-lat femur fx from your legs hitting the
handle bars if you went over. he could have his arms out stretched
and try and brace the fall or tucked in or slide the bike as you can
see there are as many ways to fall that depend on kinetics and other
factors.

By retro you mean you can not remember events leading up to the
accident? or do you mean Anterograde which is cant remember the
events after the insult.

I would not be that worried about whether it was the front or back
of your hands.

The obvious alternative scenario to expect is that I clamped too
hard on the front brakes and went over the handlebars. However, if
I do not recall the accident at all (I am missing about two hours
of recollection due to a concussion).

Dear Mr. Stern, I am pleased to see that there are local bicycle
activities
other than the Bronx River Sundays, but I may have to wait a short while
before I am back up on two wheels. I had an accident about a week ago,
and
am now healing well. But, I think I have an unusual question to ask,
but it
is quite important for me to get an accurate answer:

When one has an 'over-the-handlebars' kind of accident, how does one
most
typically end up in terms of body position, particularly with regard to
one's hands?

I need to know this, as I was last week in a bicycle accident where I
lost
consciousness, and due to 'retro-amnesia,' I do not recall what
happened.
Some people speculate that I lost consciousness before I lost control of
the
bike, because when I was found, my hands were not in front of me, and
the
backs of the hands were mainly scraped by contact with the pavement.
The
obvious alternative scenario to expect is that I clamped too hard on the
front brakes and went over the handlebars. However, if I do not recall

I shall very much appreciate any information based on your experience or

Nate Morgenstern is leading the ride below at the end of July. Nate is an
accomplished long distance rider and has done the WCC double century
for serveral years in a row. He is a fast rider and a good climber. His
rides do not disappoint. Are you up to this ride?

Sunday July 31, 2005

A Challenge of the Grimpeurs

105 mi. Hilly With Extreme Grades. If you don't have at least a 39/25
or equivalent low gear, don't bother reading further. Although I've been
leading this one on alternating years and I led it last year, the
masochists amongst you are in luck. It's the route that searches out the
"best" climbs in the area, combining parts of my old "This is Kain, Are
You Able" and short-lived "Move Over Alpe d'Huez" routes and must be
ridden at the hottest time of year. Excellent cue sheets, of course we
regroup after each climb, and we have two planned deli stops. Anyone
who fancies themself a climber must test their mettle on these hills or
give up their small chain ring. Meet #30 at 8:00 a.m. Nate Morgenstern

Note: Meeting location #30 is the Market Basket/Franklin Lakes
Shopping Center parking lot in Franklin Lakes, NJ at the corner of
Franklin Lakes Rd and High Mountain Rd. From the Tappan Zee, take I-
287 west/south to NJ 208 south to first exit, i.e. stay in entrance lane onto
208 to immediate exit. Left at stop sign onto High Mt Rd. Thru 1st
blinking light. Right into lot before 2nd blinking lightt/circle, and
immediate left to park on left facing Hi Mt Rd. Departure is 15 minutes

Although not strickly true, that's how I would describe the ride
schedule for July.

The available date are Sat 2rd, Sat 9th, Sun 10th, Sat 16th, Sun 17th,
Sat 23rd, Sun 24th, and Sat 30.

I will pick off 1 day, that means we need to fill up 7 more. And by
the way, the ride on July 30th needs to start from Mahopac middle
school to accomdate Judy Gordon's picnic.

Thanks for listening

Hi Everyone,
David Kliger experienced this on the ride last weekend and wanted to
pass it along.

I thought it might be a good idea to alert all about an incident that
occured last Sunday. Six of us were doing the Gimbels long ride. The
weather was wet that day and only a handful of riders showed up. As we
made the turn onto 22 from 172 in Bedford a policeman, Officer Keating
,stopped us for going through the stop sign without stopping. He and
another officer brought us back to the police station because none of
us had any I.D.'s and issued us summons. We were actually riding
single file at the time. This was easy because we were a small group
determined to stay together. This officer obviously wanted to make an
example of us and being we were a small group he felt he could do
this. He was stupid enough to call a flatbed to haul our
bikes to the police station. There was no way this could be done.
Fortunately John Correa came by in a car and the wife of another rider
in our group from Bedford helped bring our bikes to the police
station. My wife was able to fax my license to the station. One rider
was parked in White Plains with his license in the car. Fortunatley
John was able to get the license and then bring it to the station. The
bottom line is if we are going to be riding through Bedford we have to
be very careful about obeying the traffic laws and all of us should be
carrying picture ID.

Thanks David Kliger

See you on the road.

On last weekend's Sunday A ride, led by Jim Swigart, we had 3 people
show up, Jim the leader, myself, and Nick Broskovich. We had an
excellent ride with a tail wind most of the way, and only an
occasional head wind. The weather cooperated as well. It was cold,
but no rain. Too bad most missed it. It was a truely great ride.

While at the deli stop, Nick mentioned he recieved a waffle iron as a
wedding present. I said I had a great waffle recipe, and so instead
of just e-mailing Nick, I thought I would send it out the the entire
group.

I generally don't eat waffles before a ride, but I do eat them on days
I don't ride, and if you ride hard, you can usually justify a few
extra waffles on the day you don't ride.

I make this right in the blender

1.5 cups of milk
2 eggs
4 tablespoons salted butter, melted
2 teaspooning baking powder
Blend till mixed well
1.5 cups flour, blend in slowly, then on high for a few seconds till
well mixed. Don't over mix or waffles will be tough.

Make 8 waffles or 2 batches of 4 for most irons.

Serve with real maple syrup, fancy or grade A. If you need a place to
buy syrup, I can recommend http://www.maplesyrup.net. This syrup is
made in Lake Placid at the South Meadow Farm. Tony, the inn owner,
makes it himself, and his property extends up into the Van Hovenberg
trail system for the Porter Mtn loops and the East Mountain trails.
If you have ever skied those, then you have passed the trees where
this maple syrup came from.

If you want to get fancy, add chopped walnuts, blueberrys, or other
type things on top of the batter after you pour it into the iron, but
before you close the lid. Make sure want you add is chopped fairly
small so it does not interfere with the closing of the lid.

I got in the car and drove up nearly to Tarrytown from my home in Pelham

Does anyone know what the parking situation is like at SUNY Purchase during
weekdays? Do you need a permit or need to pay? Any info would be helpful.
Thank you.

Sung

There has been some issues with using the ride board for emails, so I
am repeating this message here, if you already got it, sorry for
double billing you.

Any it's time chip in and lead an A ride. If everyone could lead 1
ride a month that would be great.

Open date in May are; Sat the 14th, Sun the 22nd, Sat the 28th and Sun
the 29.

I am also including a special appeal for sunday the 8th. This is a
multi level ride starting in Katonah at 10, distance and route at the
leaders discretion, and discribed as:

"NATIONAL BIKE MONTH INVITATIONAL MULTILEVEL RIDES": Today's rides are
being advertised by NYC Transportation Alternatives in honor of Bike
Month NYC 2005. Participants will be arriving by train. LEADERS FOR
ALL LEVELS ARE NEEDED. Please start all rides from above site at 10 AM.

This event sounds really cool, and should attract alot of riders. I
hope that there will be a leader ready for the job.

If anyone needs a good cue sheet, I have plenty.

Thanks Again

Aaron

Anyone doing the Walkill Time Trial this year, and/or the ride
afterwards? Last year we had a nice group that went - it was lots of
fun. For those who haven't done it before, it's a 10 mile TT, followed
by rides of varying lengths from 15 to 62 miles on some really pretty
roads.
