Hi Everyone,
David Kliger experienced this on the ride last weekend and wanted to
pass it along.
I thought it might be a good idea to alert all about an incident that
occured last Sunday. Six of us were doing the Gimbels long ride. The
weather was wet that day and only a handful of riders showed up. As we
made the turn onto 22 from 172 in Bedford a policeman, Officer Keating
,stopped us for going through the stop sign without stopping. He and
another officer brought us back to the police station because none of
us had any I.D.'s and issued us summons. We were actually riding
single file at the time. This was easy because we were a small group
determined to stay together. This officer obviously wanted to make an
example of us and being we were a small group he felt he could do
this. He was stupid enough to call a flatbed to haul our
bikes to the police station. There was no way this could be done.
Fortunately John Correa came by in a car and the wife of another rider
in our group from Bedford helped bring our bikes to the police
station. My wife was able to fax my license to the station. One rider
was parked in White Plains with his license in the car. Fortunatley
John was able to get the license and then bring it to the station. The
bottom line is if we are going to be riding through Bedford we have to
be very careful about obeying the traffic laws and all of us should be
carrying picture ID.
Thanks David Kliger
See you on the road.
