We'd like to hold certain unnamed members of our group in the Ring of Honor this
week for their courageous ride to The Mountain last Weds. despite cold, wind and
threat of rain. I can't name them, unfortunately, because I missed the start
while sending an email. Help! Wheels out front. Who are you?

For the rest of us, tomorrow offers another chance to prove our mettle.

Leaving East Decatur Station at 11 AM SHARP, 34 mi, 17 mph ave., friendly but be
prepared to keep up!

We have the answer to our question: Julie, Barry, Bryan and Jerry entered the
Ring of Honor last week, riding fearlessly into the face of cold, wind and
threatened rain. Thanks for keeping our Pony Express motto alive!

Trying to see if there is any interest in the airport ride this Sunday. It looks
to be the much nicer of our weekend days. If I hear back from anyone, we will be
leaving from Aurora at 9:30. Let me know. If I don't hear from anyone I will be
heading straight there.

This is a great way to get the word out. It is also pretty fun to cruise down Roswell Rd and Piedmont Rd from Roswell City Hall with a police escort and have them close down all intersections for the ride. I am sure there will be a group leaving from Decatur also.

I normally take MARTA to North Springs and ride up to Roswell City Hall from there.

Subject: Join us for the 6th annual "Ride to the Capitol"

Dear Georgia Bicycling Supporter,

Mark your calendar & save the date: Tuesday, March 22, 2011. The 6th annual "Georgia Rides to the Capitol" event is coming!

The "Ride to the Capitol" is a fun, relaxing way to show elected leaders that bicycling matters for Georgia. This year, we're pushing for two important pieces of legislation that will improve bicycle safety in Georgia.

One, a "Three Foot Safe Passing" bill, will clearly relay to motorists the need for adequate room when passing a cyclist.

The second bill, already introduced as HB 101, will clean up a host of Georgia's antiquated bicycle codes for improved safety.

By participating in the "Ride to the Capitol," you can meet fellow cyclists from around the state and proudly display your support for these advocacy efforts. A large turnout will demonstrate to Georgia's lawmakers that its citizens care about bicycling and that investments in bicycling improvements are good for our health, our economy, and our environment.

We hope you will join us for "Georgia Rides to the Capitol," and please pass this announcement along to your cycling friends and family!

All best & safe riding,

Sean Kelly, who I believe was a famous cyclist in a past life, declared on the Colbert Report recently that people rising from the couch in unison at an important moment in the Super Bowl creates a "sacred experience."  Sean Dorrance Kelly - The Colbert Report - 2/2/11 - Video Clip | Comedy Central  Apparently he's forgotten his cycling life.  When I think of experiencing the sacred, I think of a delirious, oxygen-deprived, lung-busting, heart-exploding attack up the final Stone Mtn. hill past the greenhouses with Barry, Paul, Angus, Markham, Bryan and a crazy horde of cyclists ahead, around and behind me.  Now, if one survives, that's much more a religious experience than jumping off the couch for 4th and 1!

Wanna experience a sacred moment?  Show up tomorrow at East Decatur Station, leaving at 11 SHARP, 34 mi., 17 mph ave, friendly but be prepared to keep up.

All:

It looks to be a sweet weekend for riding.

Any Saturday riders from Aurora out there?
Maybe a 9 a.m. start?
How's about Sunday? Same time as above or 8 a.m.?

I was hoping for, maybe, both days of around 40-ish miles.

Post to the list if you have designs on such, so all will come out.

Ride safe,
Barry

I think a Sunday ride from Aurora at 9am sounds great. I am going to do a noon ride at the brewery on Saturday.

All:

While it is a bit late, I would like to clarify (a.k.a. command from above)
about the riding from Aurora this weekend.

There will be a 9 a.m. Saturday ride of the usual Va-Hi Velo length of 40-ish
miles. I will come with a suggested route, but as tradition dictates, my route
idea is quite subject to change. (Return time: after noon)

Also, given what folks have said, it sounds like an airport-ride meet-up at 9:30
Sunday at Aurora will be most popular.

The breakdown:
-- Saturday: 9 a.m. and 40-ish miles (my suggestion: Stone Mountain and back)
-- Sunday: 9:30 meet-up for the trip to the start of the airport ride.

The Saturday ride is the usual, friendly romp where we do not drop anyone, and
the route is truly determined on site.
The Sunday ride and route are determined by the airport-ride pace-setters, which
is (shall we say) brisk. This ride *is* fun, but there will be upwards of 200
people riding and the trip back to town includes a part where I get dropped . .
. way dropped.

Other suggestions are, of course, all good.

Ride safe,
Barry

I don't care where we go. I don't care how far. I just want to ride on Sunday
morning like we used to do.

8AM. It'll be warm enough we can pretend spring has arrived.

Who's in?

Jett, I'm glad to hear your parts (both bike and body) are healed up.  Count me in for the Sunday ride!

All:

I was poised to suggest just what Jett has . . . with one addendum:

I say we go back to our previous, more-rigorous schedule of a Saturday 9 a.m.,
pre-set ride and the traditional 8 a.m. Sunday from here on out.

The extended weather outlook is for 60s into March, so cold should be minimized.

We should probably have some chimings-in about it all, too.
As always, other ride options (special Saturday rides to Silk Sheets, for
instance) are great, too.

Ride safe, and talk soon,
Barry

Take a deep breath and enjoy the best of Atlanta. 60 degrees, sunshine, smooth roads, mean hills, majestic Stone Mountain. The deep breath might help you hang onto Bryan's wheel, too.

See you tomorrow?

Leaving East Decatur Station, 11 AM SHARP, 34 mi., 17 mph ave., friendly but be prepared to keep up.

Lance 2.0 is done. Lance 3.0 begins, as our guy pulls together a legal team to
take on Jeff Nowitzky, who might have witnesses that saw Lance lying on the
floor of a team bus with a blood bag. Contador 2.0 begins. Or maybe not. And
maybe the UCI never suspended Contador 1.0. Do blood bag plasticizers in one's
test samples mean anything? Or is clenbuterol is just a puzzling accident that
happens from time to time at Spanish farms that never before have tested
positive for clenbuterol in their beef? And Ricco is in the hospital with the
flu, except a transfusion from an improperly refrigerated blood bag seems to be
involved. It's all so confusing! Damn, there's bad blood everywhere!

Come help figure this out. Take your coffee, your supplements, your inhalers,
and your electric-assists but leave the blood bags at home. There's a bad juju
around the blood!

Hope you can join us--unstoked--tomorrow. Leaving East Decatur Station at 11 AM
SHARP, 34 miles, 17 mph ave., friendly but be prepared to keep up.

The new Virginia Highland Velo jerseys are coming soon!  We've gotten pricing info and expect to have the new jersey/shorts design by the end of the week.  The new design will use the same colors as our current kit, but have added panache because we know all cyclists love panache!  The kit is being made for us by Sfatto, a local company.   Who is Sfatto Clothing?

We need your input to make some final decisions.  Please forward this on to anyone else you know who might be interested.

Here's the rundown:

Jerseys:  these will be 60% bamboo, which is a super soft, breathable fabric with odor-fighting properties.  And of course, bamboo is about the MOST renewable plant we know.  Yes, we have to pay a little more for this fabric.

Long sleeve, short sleeve or sleeveless jersey:  $70
Shorts:  $65 (sfatto chamois)   $80 (endurance chamois)
Bib Shorts: $70 (sfatto chamois)  $85 (endurance chamois)
       Wind vest: $70
       Wind Jacket:  $75
       Arm Warmers: $40
       Leg Warmers:  $50
       Knee Warmers: $45

THESE PRICES WILL VARY SLIGHTLY DEPENDING ON HOW MANY KITS ARE ORDERED.

What we need today is a preliminary count of how many of you would like the following:

Wind vest
Wind jacket
Arm, Leg or Knee Warmers

There is a 10 unit minimum on all items, and we won't ask the designer to come up with a design if we don't meet the minimum on these.

Waiting to hear from you.....

Jack & Rich
