Please accept my apologies if you receive this email several times or even once if you didn't want it. I had to merge several rosters (and am mailing to two groups). I am afraid that I am still going to miss some people that should be getting on the list. We will have a better system in place in 2008. Actually, Mike Herron, I believe that I have missed many of the 50+ rosters. Please forward this to them. 

 

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Virginia Beach for the banquet on January 19th. Please make sure to RSVP, either way. Mike Herron (mike.herron@pilotonline.com) is keeping track. The room is big.. the most expensive drink is $4, the food is good, we will have music, we have some folks to recognize and it will mean more if YOU can be there.

 

2008 Schedule? Please review & let me know which events you would be interested in attending/playing?

 

We have a number of options for 2008 and this is an effort to firm up the various tournaments and events that we will send Cardinal entries. Please review and let me know if you have questions. Please respond by email and let me know in which events you would participate. I am hopeful that you will circulate this and return your answers to me by mid-January. Hopefully we can have it done before the banquet.

 

January 19th - Banquet - Virginia Beach - everyone is welcome. A good opportunity to bring a prospective Cardinal or a retired player. Also a great chance to test the mettle of a girlfriend, drive your wife over the edge, etc.

 

Feb 8,9,10, 2008     USA Sevens - San Diego - I went last year as did several other Cardinals. There is an over 35 - social - one day 15's tournament on the Friday (Feb 8th) before the Sevens take place on Saturday & Sunday.

 

Feb 23, 24, 2008 Fort Lauderdale Ruggerfest - Depending upon the level of interest we will enter sides in the following brackets - 35+, 45+, 50+ and hopefully we will kick off the 55+ with a Florida Old Boys side. We are also considering entering an open division side. The tournament is held before the regular club side matrix matches begin and it would be great to have an invitational side of future Cardinals getting to play together. Between the clubs in Virginia, Harrisburg, Carolina, Philly, Atlanta, Life - you would think we could collect a nice tour side.

 

March 15, 16, 2008 St. Patrick's Day Rugby Tournament - Savannah - Last year the Cardinals entered a 35+ side in the Old Boys bracket and won the tournament. Depending upon the level of interest we could also enter a Cardinals side in another bracket as well. Not Old Boys, perhaps Social?

 

March 20-31, 2008. Chile Rugby tour. This is a tour being organized by Rich Etzkorn, The deadline to be included is close at hand but if you want more information then please contact Rich. RGEtzkorn@yahoo.com  

 

April 26, 27, 2008 Maggotfest - Missoula - Last year, the Cardinals supported a Life College Alumni side. We won all of our matches and it was a wild weekend. We could enter a side this year.

 

April/May - dates unsure yet - Evergreen - Vancouver, Canada - There is a strong old boys group here. They have a tournament and regularly field sides that are 40+, 50+ and even 60+.

 

June 15 or so, 2008 - Stone Harbor - one match. Very competitive, nice venue. We need to go back and win that one. Last year the age was 33+ and the rules were modified to mirror those used in Bermuda in International 33+ competition.

 

Aug 1-3, 2008 - Saranac Can-Am Rugby Tournament - Saranac/Lake Placid - We could enter several sides in this years tournament. 35+ is back, 45+, 50+ and Open.

 

September 1-8 approx. 2008 - Scotland Tour - Golden Oldies - Cardinals supporting Poltroons. Phil Dorsey is the Cardinal contact for the tour. If you are interested, you should contact Phil now. PhilD@dorseylaw.net

 

September 18-21, 2008 - Aspen Ruggerfest - 35's, 45's, 50's and 55's.

 

Any other events that you are interested in that aren't listed above? Please let me know about them and whether you would be interested in organizing a side to that or another particular event.

 

Hope all of you enjoyed Thanksgiving, have great holidays and are doing something to work out. We play in less than twelve weeks.
