Hi Heidi,

I contacted you a few months back re: playing womens rugby. I am still
unsure of my work commitments but I also have another friend interested in
playing, she lives in Southern Syd. I would like to attend a training
session soon so I will let you know prior. If you want to send some posters
down to me in Nowra I am happy to put them up around Nowra and Jervis Bay.

Thanks
Ash :)

This Friday, who's coming for drinks?

Also, Promo day at Westfield has been confirmed, as has a similar event for the Mall on the same day.  Acording to Tim Fish we'd need people between 9am and 2pm on 17th Feb.  The more volunters we have, the more likely we'll be able to do this in shifts.  Who's free??? Shadow... I think its fair to say that you are exempt this time.  Everyone else, from 2pm to 7pm is heaps of time to get ready... even for Tori.

I know there are people who don't regularly check thier emails, so if your reading this and know of someone who may not read it in the next few days, please SPREAD THE GOOD WORD and lets share the love.

Peace be with you.

Jess

Hi Gang,

So I attended the Vikings first committee meeting for 2007 last wednesday night and there was alot of ground covered; alot of which had to do with us. I'll try to keep this brief, but there are a few important dates so please pay attention and commit yourself where you can.

RECRUITMENT

We need to organise a meeting asap to get onto planning a recruitment drive.  This is probably our number one priority.  If you want to play then we need all the help we can get.  Kyle Page (one of the Vikings Committee members) has offered his assistance so we need to work out a time that suits as many as possible, plus Kyle, and heidi if at all possible.  I'll get abck to you with some dates asap.

Also, Time Fisher (1st grade coach) has organised a club promo day at Westfield Warrawong on the 17th of Feb, which will invole handing out flyers, answering questions, raising the team and club profile, etc.  WHO IS FREE???  The more volunteers the less of the day you will have to give up.  There may also be a similar thing happening in the mall the same day, but that is yet to be confirmed.

Illawarra and country champs - we don't have the money, nor do we have the players to go.  Shame!

SOCIAL

This Friday the 2nd of Feb is "First Friday Drinks" at Collies, which is typically a long horns event, but this one is special.  It is important that we get as many bodies at this event as possible, as a few members of the committee will be meeting with Collies the following week to discuss sponsorship and the number of people there could influence their generosity.  Our team needs to start showing our support to Vikings and as Vikings.  SO WHO IS COMING???

Other than that, Luke Denner/Bullfrog is heading this years social committee.  He will be distributing a social events calander before the season begins so we all know when/where/how/why social events are on with plenty of notice.  At the meeting the committee confirmed that they will be doing thier best to take our draw, including travel time into account.  We also may have our own social event to organise, so thinking caps on as of now.

FIELD

Hard as a rock apparenty.  Needs rest and restoration.  We won't be training on it this year, but we will be playing on it at this stage.  I was told where we'd be training... somewhere down the road.  Will get back to you on that one.

CLUB

Its the clubs 50th Year.  A very important occassion for many past and present members; that includes us.  Lets get involved!!!  They want us to be a part of thier history.  Keep the June long weekend free (beginning the 9th I believe), from friday through til Monday their will be events going on in celebration of your club.  More on this as the year progresses.

More immediately is the first WORKING BEE around the club house and grounds. Unfortunately it falls on the 18th Feb.  This is unfortunate as it is the day after Shadow's 21st and I'm sure there'll be some blood shot eyes and sore heads.  Fortunately, there'll be a good crew of us in town and we can all feel sorry for each other together.  SO BE THERE for a couple of hours and then we can grab some lunch, maybe go for a swim and see where the day takes us.

There was some discussion of uniforms for the year.  We already have a set of jerseys and we are guaranteed shorts and socks; otherwise there is some discussion about what other kit maybe included in rego fees such as polo and/or dress shirt, hat, jacket, tie (???).  Will probably know more after the next meeting.  Just putting it out there. Any thoughts?

COACH

Les is still interested!!!  A blessing indeed.  Tony Maher (President) has been in contact with Les, who was under the impression that we, as a team, had folded.  Lets start talking positive and being confident about rebuilding the side (particularly when talking to potential recruits) and getting excited about the pending season.

I know there's alot to soak up here.  Maybe a bit much, but it was a big meeting and we as a team and as members of the club have a big year ahead.  So please take it in.  Make yourselves available where possible and don't expect that someone else will take responsibility.  We really need every player that we have left (and if you start counting it looks a bit grim) to get behind the team.  I'm happy to continue to go to committee meetings on behalf of the team, but the rest needs to be a group effort.

Thanks again for taking the time.  All comments, questions, suggestions, conversations on the issues above are welcome.

Jess

I'm still good to go to the meeting. might give you a quick call tonight
heidi just to talk through the plans and what to expect from the meeting.
Does anyone want to come and hold my hand???

And the Les factor is still up in the air??? When will we know...

Also, lets start trying to figure out a date when we can meet up and get
this recruitment campaign underway.

Enough from me. Will report back about the meeting.

Jess

PS does anyone know when May is back or if shes back??? I don't have any
phone contact details for her.

Basically report something of the like:

- an informal meeting was held to disscuss team survival. We have lost approximatley half of our player base and manager due to re-location and also financial support from the NG. We are also unsure if les will continue coaching...

From the meeting we decided that too much has past to simply let it slip, and to bite the bullet and re-enter for the 2007 season (already done, re-entered last week via email to SWRU).

Heidi has agreed to still "manage" the team from Sydney (liasion with SWRU and CWRU etc), but with a team of helpers to actually carry out physical actions in wollongong.

Current focus: Player recruitment. Posters currently being designed.

Confirming a coach - Heidi to call Les, if Les is out, talk to Mark Malloy who

                     has someone in mind.

* There will be no Illawarra team this year due to loss of BBQ moneys

Therefore 2007 very much club focussed which is a good thing and will hopefully enable a stronger structure to be put in place to keep the team alive despite loss of people.

Just a suggestion girlies, maybe we should focus more on Recruiting outside of uni as the same problem of not having enough players may happen every year??? Just putting it out there :-) ofcourse we want all the uni ruggers to play...

Committee meeting - Bad timing as always huh.

I'll go. Would like to have a pow wow with you heidi beforehand though.

Tori, sorry dear, but this means I'll have to be late for your b'day bash.
I will get there asap!!!

Abs, if no one's claim you spare ticket then I'll take it. If its gone,
I'll just get one on the day. I think I'm catching a ride in to town on Sat
arvo with my cousin who starts work at 4pm at the brewery. So if anyone is
up for a pint or two before Matt's game then you're most most welcome to
join me.
