Directions from north
Take exit 68 toward Seaward Ave
Turn left onto Harbor Blvd and go 7.0 mi. You will pass Ventura Harbor, it will seem as if you are in the middle of nowhere for a stretch then you will slowly comeback into civilization. You will pass Woolly and the Oxnard Bottle Shop. Eventually you will reach a bridge that crosses a river and overlooks the Channel Islands Harbor. Immediately after crossing the bridge, take a right at the red light, Peninsula Road. After about 100 yards, enter the first parking lot on the right where the tennis courts are.
Directions from south
Exit Victoria Ave toward Channel Islands Harbor and turn left onto Victoria Ave. Go 5.5 miles through red light after red light after red light. Feel the temperature begin to fall, the breeze get moist, the cool air settle in as you get closer to the ocean. Isn't this already better than being in L.A.? You will eventually pass a grocery store complex on the right and soon after you will be at Channel Islands Blvd. Turn right onto Channel Islands Blvd. then turn left at the next light, Peninsula Road. After about 100 yards, enter the first parking lot on the right where the tennis courts are.
Since the Channel Islands Harbor is party central for the Fourth of July Fireworks, parking may be a problem. There are options though:
Option A - Peninsula Road anywhere you can find parking
Option B – Boat Landings Park at Victoria @ Channel Islands Blvd.
Option C – Harbor Boulevard – Walk or take Water Taxi from behind Whale’s Tail Restaurant
Additional
Get away from the heat, the smog and the crowds of LA and inland this Fourth of July with a very special Ventura County Hash. Hang out on the water into the evening and catch the fireworks over the water with a few of your favorite Hashers and good ole’ Sam Adams.
If you want to make a whole day of it and get in while parking is good, check out the Channel Islands Harbor Schedule of Events. There will be bands, parades, farmers market and more on the Harbor Blvd side of the harbor. Enjoy your day there, and then catch the harbor taxi for a short ride across the water to Peninsula Park.
Run Start will be sometime after three o’clock, give or take a few beers. Show up much earlier if you want. Land Ho and I will mark run start pointing the way to some ice cold Red, White, and Blue Pabst Blue Ribbon.
This is a Dinghy trail so you will need a complete hash bag with a change of shoes, socks, stuff to keep you warm after sunset, technu, and astroglide.
