Velocity Riders,
Tonight is the last night (Oct 26) of the Tuesday night practise
races for this year since the clocks are changing on Saturday. I
plan to go out and do two laps before it gets dark. If any one is
interested in going for it, let me know. We could meet at the start
line, or at the parking lot of the (HEB or Albertson not sure which
it is) on the southwest corner of the intersection of 35 and William
Cannon at about 5:30 PM.
Anyway, if interested let me know. It is a great workout and
experience.
Regards,
John Hoffner
I plan on building up a fixed gear bike by the end of the year. I
would like to use that as part of my winter/spring training. If any
other members are 'fixed', it would be a fun/different alternative.
I would be more inclined to train in the COLD if there are others
sharing the PAIN with me. If the current weather holds up, it will
never get cold. Anything below 40degrees, I would limit the mileage
to 40mi - That suites my threshold for cold.

In response to a recent question about aero wheels and/or covers: the "CH"
Aero Wheel Cover is available for $59.95 from Excel Sports.
Do a google search on "ch aero" or "ch aero wheel cover" for several
discussions about them.
Also, "Biketechreview.com" has discussion and analysis of different wheel
configurations including the CH aero wheel cover.
In a nutshell, there are a lot of variables that have been tested in a
number of different ways. Regarding the wheel cover, the weight penalty of
the cover added to a standard wheel is more than offset by the aero benefit.
However, that net benefit is minimal: only a minute or so in the 26 mile
time trial.
For our purposes (and at this late date), the time trialist will more
directly benefit from aero bars, a tight jersey, an aero position, proper
application of power during the changes in terrain, etc.
And in this two man time trial, proper coordination of efforts between the
participants is no doubt the most critical item.
I agree with you assessment. The change at the end of this month will make
it too dark to ride at 6:30 (or even 5:30).
For the past couple of winters I've used the spin class at Bicycle Sport
Shop to keep up my midweek training. Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:00pm.
I would expect them to offer spin classes again this year but I haven't been
able to confirm that.

I'll be there. These next two weeks will probably
be the last we (or, at least, I) will be able to
ride that, as DST goes away on Halloween.

Velocity Team,
I would like to get some input from the team on winter and
spring training. In the past we have scheduled training rides for
distances from 65 to 100 miles. We always have a designated goal for
the rides like paceline skills, sprinting, hill climbing, base miles,
etc… I would like to get input from all of you on what type of
rides you are most interested in and how often they should be. We
can alternate between Pflugerville and Austin at Williams Elementary
for starting the rides(if that works okay for everyone).
Please e-mail your input before the next team meeting (11-01-04) so
we can discuss this topic further. After that meeting I hope to put
a schedule together and post it on our site.
I have really enjoyed our past training rides and would like to keep
things alive through the winter!

Sorry I can't make the hill workout tonight - I have to go to a birthday
party.
However, my guess is that Scott and/or Frank might be there. At about
5:30-6:00pm for a few quick climbs before the sun sets.
Tomorrow night, I plan to arrive early and stay late at the Veloway to make
up for my absence tonight. Anyone else up for a little time trial practice
tomorrow night?

Well, the weekend weather looks glorious!
As discussed at last Monday's Velocity meeting, let's meet here at my place
to carpool to Gruene.
Meet at 8 a.m. at 1405 Possum Trot (just off of Enfield Road) to carpool.
We can put 4 cars in the drive pretty easily (maybe 5 or 6 since we are all
frineds!), and I can carry 4 bikes and 4 riders in my van.
Or meet at 9:30 in front of Gruene Hall.
Since most of us are doing the RfR century ride the next day, this should be
an easy practice ride, just to get our team time trial skills back in shape,
NOT a hammer session. Bring whatever bike setup you plan to use at the TTT.
Please RSVP so I can get an idea who is coming.
