I have to sell this now. It's here in Austin, but I can get it to Houston (near Alkek) by Tuesday. This is a velodrome (track) bike, so please forward this to your friends in Dallas and Houston (or where ever else there's a velodrome).
2006 Giant Track Bike Size "L" - $812 - Must sell TODAY
This price is $750 + TX sales tax. (It's $780 incl. shipping to ship
out of state.) I paid over $1500 for the parts in 2007 and the bike's
in excellent condition. (I guess everyone's short of cash these days.)
If I don't sell it today, I plan on shipping it to a guy in California (Hellyer) tomorrow.
This bike is built for track use and lacks a brake.
(It also lacks pedals.) It is extremely light and stiff and accelerates quickly and
immediately, but the extreme stiffness makes it a very uncomfortable
ride on most road surfaces. In other words, this is not a road fixie.

I'm doing 7- 20 second sprint intervals w/ 1.5 minutes recovery between after work today. Great Northern is easiest for me. I'll plan on starting around 5:30 or so. Anyone want to join me, or does anyone have something else planned that could accommodate some sprint intervals?

The last one was proximity. They were all excellent clinics.

Do we have a clinic scheduled for Sunday? I don't have it marked in my calendar.
Robert? Do you remember?

I don't plan ever to race. I'm just looking for an excuse to ride my bike. I plan to ride over, learn a bit, hang out a bit, and ride back.

I imagine Frank would have listed it on the Velocity calendar, and nothing's there:

I have other plans that I'd like to invite all to, but it doesn't accommodate sprint intervals. The Ride of Silence meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Pfluger Bridge and rolls at 7:00 p.m.

Is anyone thinking/planning on doing the mountain bike ride Friday August 28th in Wichita Falls? Or going up early for the Crits?
I was thinking about trying the HHH Triple Threat and am looking for someone else who might be interested. The Triple Threat is the 12-mile mountain bike ride on Friday, 100-mile road ride on Saturday and 13-mile trail run on Sunday. They offer shorter distances for both the road ride and trail run, but they aren't part of the Triple Threat.
I take it back. It had been amended, but I guess it still remains a senate bill.

Here's another option for you, Robert, but it might require a little work:
Hey Jake. I'll bet your students don't know what they're in for :-)
I can't do it right now, but next week I'll look over the workouts I've been doing since November and give you some idea of how my coach (Source Endurance) structured things.
I think the current wisdom is that Long Slow Distance makes sense if you're a pro and have all day to devote to riding, but for the rest of us, a month off the bike and then a few hours of LSD durinig the week means we're gonna be fat and slow come springtime, so maintaining intensity through the winter makes good sense.

I have to say this Spring, I've felt like I could have used some intensity during the winter.
I'm wondering if the following general outline would be beneficial as a winter cycling program:
1. I'm thinking of 3 things: power, endurance, speed. I'd like to focus on a particular skill for a 4-week block, with the fourth week being one for recovery/rest.
2. Start in October with climbing--working on all different types with "simulated hills."
3. Start new 4-week block with more focus on power with high resistance, but with higher cadence, and incorporation of intervals.
4. New 4-week block with focus on endurance: low-resistance, moderate cadence with intervals as low as 75% of max hr; longer intervals up to 12 minutes.
5. Last cycle--focus on speed: High intensity sprints shorter than 45 seconds.
I've basically taken this whole program from Pavelka's ideas, except that he doesn't include climbing in his winter program, and he goes in 6-week cycles. I'd love to hear your ideas and thoughts on this, and if you have some suggestions, I'd appreciate them!!

I'm selling it no matter what, but I expect to get about $1,000 for it.
Of course it's designed for the track, where it accelerates like a bat out of hell, but on the road it's an extremely stiff ride. I do have a brake for it that easily bolts on to the front fork.

Absolemond! If I go another month or two without work, I'll still be carrying that over my shoulder as I ride my commuter bike around town pulling my dog and my massively useful towel in my BOB trailer. ;-)
Hey, Daniel, Do you still have your carbon Lemond? Best,

Thanks, Stanton and John. That's pretty much what I had concluded and why I stripped the components off of it this morning before photographing it. Here's the frame I'm moving the components to (This is what I was riding 2-3 years ago):
http://www.danielnorton.com/4sale/2004fs
There's a shop I like in Philadelphia that charges $75 to replace the dropout (not sure about paint, shipping is about $30 R/T), but even if I fix it I'll just turn around and sell it, anyway.
I'm curious. What do you want for it? Any way to install a brake?

This track bike is built around a 2006 Giant Omnium aluminum frame (size "L"):

I posted this before back in November, but there wasn't much (off-season) interest.
Another person to ask might be Dave Hartley at Music City Cycles. He was great at working with my old Vitus frameset when Freewheeling refused to even look at it.
Just a thought.

Daniel,
Yup, derailler hanger rebent in the same place is a serious problem. Most mountain bikes are designed with replaceable hangers. Easy to replace but they still cost $25-$40.00.
Three suggestions: 1. Turn the bike into a single speed. Assuming you can cut off the hanger and still mount the wheel. 2. Send the frame to "Southwest Frameworks" in Dallas. They can replace the hanger and give you a GREAT paint job. Check out the website. They did a great paint job on my Torelli for ~$300. 3. Take it to Bicycle Sport Shop. They have someone that can do brazed repairs. I suspect it's the guy in south Austin that builds Willits bikes. Don't know about the paint job. I used a rattle can when I had them repair my steel frame mountain bike and it came out OK.
#3 is probably the cheapest - $50-75. #1 is the really cool thing to do, but the remaining material may be dangerous. #2 only works if you really love the frame.

In general, a steel frame can be rebent to fix minor misalignment, but that bend is so severe I have to believe there are microfractures in the metal, perhaps under the paint. A steel dropout is NOT that malleable. The fact that it has bent twice in the same spot confirms that suspicion. So at the least, the dropout has to be replaced by someone who can braze in a new one. Then the frameset would need repaint, etc.
Got to decide if it's worth it...
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (or the one who confirms your prior suspicions).

I'm torn whether to sell this or bend the hanger back. I'd welcome any suggestions of someone in Austin who might bend this back or offers to buy the frameset (frame, carbon fork, headset).
Thanks.
