Who needs 50+ mph!? I was traveling 1 mph during a turn before the Pedal Thru the Pines, I fell back and landed on the back of my head. I had a touch of amnesia but now I'm back to my normal spaciness. I sent my brother and his wife on their way, waited at the finish line and family got me and my car back home. Unless I have new symptoms, I plan on an easy ride Sunday.
Let me know if you see any helmets on sale. :-)

If the wind is from the northwest you have a clear tailwind. If the wind is from the south, particularly the southeast, you'll get a sharp gust of wind from the right when you're about half way down. It's enough to move you to the left about 3 or 4 feet. I'd hate to be in aerobars at that time.
I've hit 55 mph with a very mild wind out of the south. And the bike moved around a lot.
But of all the downhills mentioned, I'd rather go over 50 on that part of 2222 where I can see a mile or so ahead of me & there's plenty of runout.
Sorry, Kirk..I didn't mean to direct my commement at you specifically..I was just addressing a general topic on the forum..nothing personal. You can bet each time I descend Tumble Weed Hill I'm trying to break my
54 mph record, heh heh.
Speaking of Big Ass Hills..I'm rather proud that I cleared repeat #6 in 4:31. I thought I'd be like Frank and climb Lonesome Valley on #5 but decided once was enough -- I still had 13 miles and Blue Grass between
me and home :0)
Later when we were riding east on Mesa, Greg was nearly trampled by seven deer. Man those guys were hauling! An excited jogger on the other side of the street was yelling, "Did you see that? They almost hit
you". Yea, pretty wild stuff.

Kirk, Tumbleweed hill is 2222 from 620 down toward Jester. I've only been on it
twice, and it scares me. I don't think I let myself get above 40mph
on that. The
straightness and openess of it plays with my head.
Big View, though, is a different story. Nice and curvy, especially at
the bottom.
52mph for me. :-)

I think that's how long it was taking me to get *down*
that hill yesterday.

Kirk, Dane and I are probably going to do one of two rides: either work our way south to Old San Antonio Road an go to Kyle and back (rolling terrain, with some climbs if you want to work 'em) or Southwest Parkway to Barton Creek Pkwy To Beecave Road out to 71 and back, then 360 to 183 and head home. Can't avoid the hills on that one. We'll probably leave from Dane's house, 39 1/2 and Tonkawa near the corner of Lamar and 38th, at 8:00. I'll be leaving my house near Mopac and 2222 around 7:45. We'll plan to be finished by noon. Join us? Anyone else? My mobil is 923-8511.

Hey, all, No lovely, lovely Lago for me this weekend. It was good to see I could ride a bike tonight after the flu. I'm planning on doing Frank's Dripping Spgs favorites on Saturday at 0900. It's hilly and pretty and fun.

Sorry, Kirk..I didn't mean to direct my commement at you specifically..I was just addressing a general topic on the forum..nothing personal. You can bet each time I descend Tumble Weed Hill I'm trying to break my 54 mph record, heh heh.
Speaking of Big Ass Hills..I'm rather proud that I cleared repeat #6 in 4:31. I thought I'd be like Frank and climb Lonesome Valley on #5 but decided once was enough -- I still had 13 miles and Blue Grass between me and home :0)
Later when we were riding east on Mesa, Greg was nearly trampled by seven deer. Man those guys were hauling! An excited jogger on the other side of the street was yelling, "Did you see that? They almost hit you". Yea, pretty wild stuff.

Go get 'em , Frank. I have new strategy to suggest: stay with the pack so you don't miss a turn. :)
I'm going to pass this year. Not enough climbing workouts, and I don't think I'm up for being redlined and having the bunch ride away from me up that hill. :(

I'll be there, obviously, but only doing the 17-mile route.

Hey, all,
No lovely, lovely Lago for me this weekend. It was good to see I could ride
a bike tonight after the flu. I'm planning on doing Frank's Dripping Spgs
favorites on Saturday at 0900. It's hilly and pretty and fun.
Let's show some club love.

That heavy-ass NiteRider of mine helps (I turn it on at dusk) but I still don't count on it. Best to cover your brakes out there..they look but don't SEE because they aren't expecting bicycles (or motorcycles for that matter).

Me too, John. Last week a woman in a mini-van did a turn-halfway-and-realize-someone's coming-and-stop in front of me. Not good at 35mph. Worse at 50!
