This is a summary of Velocity's May meeting held on Monday, May 3.
1. Location: The members met briefly in REI, determined that space
in "the Cave" was limited, and decided as a group to move the meeting
to the Whole Foods Coffee Shop.
2. Senior Games: A number of our members have participated
successfully in Senior Games held both in Kerrville and in Austin.
Roger Wolf medaled in the time trial events in Kerrville, while Stan
Truxillo, Gerry King, and Bob Pillmore medaled in the Austin Senior
Games. Also, Susie Truxillo medaled in racewalking in the Austin
Senior Games. Congratulations all. It was agreed that Velocity
members would try to make their racing experience available to the
planners of the 2005 senior games to help make that event run more
smoothly.
4. Jersey order: Roger Wolf is placing another Jersey order. In the
interests of controlling production costs, it was agreed that the
design will remain unchanged.
5. USCF licensing: Roger will renew the clubs USCF license online.
6. Velocity Day: Another Velocity day has been tenatively scheduled
for June 5th.
7. Nutrition: A lengthy discussion followed regarding the effect of
nutrition on racing and cycling performance. In summary, current
thinking is that a diet relatively low in fats and carbohydrates
while being higher in proteins benefits the cyclist's training
program while providing significant health benefits to the
individual. My own experience is that changing to that diet reduced
my cholesterol significantly while improving my strength and stamina
on the bicycle. Stan Truxillo will be posting additional information
on this topic to the Velocity web-site in the near future.
