NORVELL AUSTIN

 

Norvell Austin is a retired American professional wrestler who made his debut in the late 1960s.

Austin worked for most of his career in the Southern United States,most often in tag team competition.

 

Norvell Austin is most famous for teaming with Sputnik Monroe in one of the first “mixed races” heel (bad guy) teams seen in the south.

Austin began his professional wrestling career in the late 1960s in the Florida/Alabama area. At the time,African American wrestlers in the south were booked (used) in very specific ways.

They were mainly restricted to wrestling other African Americans and if they were to wrestle white opponents they were always faces (good guys) who could not cheat or use underhanded means to beat their white opponents.

These restrictions meant that Norvell Austin worked as a face initially and mainly in singles competition since no all African American tag teams were used at that time.

 

Austin was also part of the Original Midnight Express (Randy Rose and "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey) from 1981 to 1983.

 

A few years later,Norvell Austin was 1/2 of the tag team known with the 'Pretty Young Things',a.k.a. 'The P.Y.T.s (with Koko B. Ware)' where they feuded with the likes of such tag teams as The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton),The Midnight Express ("Loverboy" Dennis Condrey and "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton) and The Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn and Stan Lane).

Austin teamed with Brickhouse Brown and challenged the tag team known as "The Nightmares " defeating that team for the Southeastern Tag Team Championhsip.

Norvel Austin feuded with "Exotic" Adrian Street in Continental Championship Wrestling in 1986 where he defeated him to become the Southeastern Heavyweighrt Champion.

 

 

Rumor has it that Norvell Austin has set his eyes on an up and coming young star and may be joining that said wrestler from ULTIMATE WRESTLING as a manager!

Local stars scheduled to appear include Ryan Bonckowski, a former member of 'Youth of the Nation' and wrestling talent scouted by TNA.

Bonckowski now holds the position of tight end on the Crusaders team.
