I am not sure if there are official weights. I agree, there is a big difference between oak/ash and a lighter wood. I would recommend not using pine, as it is really soft. I know some companies sell sets from poplar. Also, and I am not a wood expert here (perhaps somebody with more wood experience could help us out here), but would different oak sets have different weights even if they were the same size?
