Im not playing, but have played 3 times and its a great event and easy to get to.
Ray is driving I think.
Driving or EuroStar is pretty easy. EuroStar connection from Brussells into Oudenaarde is also quick.
Normally well supported so a good one for Brits condering a trip abroad (good beer also)
Cheers

Hi
Please advise what is the playing format for the singles event in the
mens category.
How many matches do we have to play combined in 4 sports. Is the
format based on knock out.
Will it be 11 point or 21 point game
is it possible to provide last years score card for the winner in all
sports.
This is the first time i am entering the tournament any information
would be helpful.
Best wishes

Hi Keith, I don't know how i'll get on in my first event at romford,
but i might be interested in hungary. If you've made any plans i'd be
interested in any research you've done on flights & staying close by
the venue...
Actually it would be a really good idea if perhaps anyone attending
overseas events posted information about travel costs etc as it might
promote others to take up the overseas gauntlet

A new year and a new sport.
Racketlon is set to climb to new heights in 2008 with the UK hosting the World
Championships for the first time in August (Doubles) and the British Tour going
from strength to strength attracting new players all the time.
Two events are now live for entry, the first two events on the British Racketlon
Tour! Both events look to be over subscribed so best to enter early! Also
advance payment is required and no shows will be suspended from future events
and players missing the payment deadline will face a late penalty charge. The
most recent addition is the Herts Open a one day singles event on 17th Feb.
Hatfield are also running a taster event for members which the racketlon
community is invited to on 10th Feb - 1-4pm.
At The English Championships we will have the English Racketlon Association Kick
Off Meeting, which will be an informal chat on how we can take the sport forward
in 2008 and beyond, all players are welcome and details will follow. Pls advise
if this may be of interest. It is most likely this will happen after the
presentations on Sunday 20th January EST 5pm.

English Racketlon
I have recently joined the group and your article was very informative. When you say there are different categories then what is the criteria to judge the level? I wish to enter in the jan competition and not sure how to go about it. Pls advise.
Everyone is welcome to enter the English Champs in Jan, we say English Champs but there are categories right from novice up to handy where the A Class is still by no means anywhere near a professional level, Im merely a ping pong player with limited skills in other sports and I seem to do ok! Not to mention the Assistant General Manager wiping the floor with me at Romford last Saturday! With my vastly inflated ranking of 7 in the UK, if someone can walk in off the street as it were not having played the sport previously and give me a good pasting that just shows you what the sport is all about. It's great the interest we continue to get and we are gunning for a new web solution in early 2008. See below for web links! And a Press Release from the International Racketlon Federation. Best of luck to the England team in Rotterdam at the World Championships, a weakened outfit with mssrs Struthers & Lawrence not able to make the trip, nevertheless Lorna should do very well and well the men will do well not to finish last, but hey who organises a World Champs between Xmas & New Year. At least the International Federation came back to me this week saying that I was in fact (for once!) talking sense and that it was a silly time to hold a competition with regards to gaining top British participation. However, interestingly other countries don't seem too fussed and no less than 32 of the top 40 on the Mens World Rankings are in attendance, including 12 Swedish Players of this 32 Mens Class A draw. No doubt Ray, Stuart & Co will sort everyone out, if not on court then at the bar afterwards.
Right also Im sorry about this being in a newsletter but Ive decided to go to the Hungarian Open in Feb in Budapest (yes it is causing friction with the Mrs!) however if anyone wishes to join me we can co-ordinate flights, etc. It is the first FULL world ranking event of 2008 and is set to be a blockbuster not to mention my first event abroad for over a year! Also, have a look at www.resultreporter.com the new, innovative racketlon tournament & ranking solution for the World Tour where players will also be able to register for the 2008 ENGLISH OPEN & DOUBLES WORLD CHAMPS taking place at Redbridge next August. A bit of an Internet explosion for the sport which continues to grow online.
I wont bother with happy new year n all that, go on then, happy Chrismikkah, that's a bit different, more of a combination type event!
FIR is proud to announce that the 1st version of the new events registration system around the Result Reporter by swedish company Procensor is now online and working. Players can now register for the 1st FIR World Tour Event 2008, Hungarian Open (22-24 Feb). What is new is that all players must sign up in the players corner once before they enter their first tournament. All further instructions can be found on www.resultreporter.com. Everyone please sign up now. As the Result Reporter will also be directly connected with the World Ranking System, Ranking Officer Phil Reid would like to remind all players of the upcoming changes and there slight changes in the FIR World Tour shedule.

Hope this is OK. In the name of spreading the Racketlon gospel I got my tennis / squash club to distribute the below email to the membership (1000 members). Who knows, might capture someone's imagination. Hope it conforms to the Racketlon corporate image.. ;-)
Anyone for Racketlon......?
Do you enjoy racket sports.....?
Do you enjoy friendly and inclusive competitions...?
Would you like to burn off all that Turkey and Mince Pies you'll be consuming over the festive period...?
Then why not enter the English Racketlon Championships on Saturday 19th (doubles) and Sunday 20th (singles) of January 2008
What is Racketlon....?
Racketlon is the sport in which you challenge your opponent in each of the four racket sports table tennis, squash, badminton and tennis. A racketlon match contains four sets, one in each sport. Each set is played to 21 points, much like in table tennis, but the total winner of a racketlon match is not the one that wins most sets but the one that scores the most points in total. The winner is the best all round racket player.
For details and to enter the event sign into the following and register:
Sounds good Selwyn, can see how many points I get off you at squash?
As far as I know just turn up!

Dear All
Pls find latest Racketlon Bulletin
Let me know if you wish to unsubscribe or more importantly if you have friends
who wish to be added to the list, an early xmas present? Also, importantly to
air your views pls subscribe to our UK Racketlon Discussion Group on
www.yahoogroups.com and give feedback on the sport, in a friendly forum which
can then lead to discussion.
Having got 20 or so friends into racketlon playing tournaments, i'd urge all the
core players to do the same, no better way to grow the sport after all, everyone
is keen to have a friend to banter with in between matches ;-0
1. World Tour
Check out the innovative www.resultreporter.se for the latest results. Magnus
winning again this weekend in Austria! Doug takes 3rd.
While what looks like a fantastic event, the only downfall seems to be the
amount of singles matches people outside the top places have played. Imagine
travelling to Vienna and not getting more than 1/2 matches? The key with the
game in Britain and why most tournaments are very successful is the racketlon
formula means everyone gets plenty of games at every event they play in. Not
satisfied with the amount of racket time, money back!
2. English Champs

these and if the venues fall through we wil strive to find an alternative on the
same date so block out your diaries today!!!!! Not to mention the English Open
and Scottish Opens, plus a potential 2nd world ranking event in Ipswich in May
plus the Doubles World Championships (tagged onto the English Open in August).

English Racketlon
(apologies if you received this message twice)
I've looked at the up and coming tournament in Romford.
In terms of the 4 sports i play tennis for my uni team and am training
with the badminton team too, and can put up a fight in squash and table
tennis too.
Is there specific ratings that people have to be before participating.
It's just this sport actually looks like my dream sport where i get to
play all four :D
Is it worth me entering???
Thanks, Alex Wall.
FINALLY, after several months of inactivity on the domestic front, Racketlon is back for the first event of the 2008 British Racketlon Tour.
The English Championships will be held on the weekend 19/20 January 2008 at Next Generation Club, Gidea Park, Romford.
There will be nine categories. Mens Classes A, B, C & D, Ladies A (B may be added depending on entries) and doubles categories - Mens (A, B & C) and Mixed.
The tournament is open to UK Residents. Doubles events will be held on Saturday 19 January (11am-7pm), and Singles on Sunday 20 January (9am-5pm). Presentations to all winners at 5pm on the Sunday.
We will be dedicating a Player of the Tournament trophy at the English Championships to Paul Davies who died of cancer on 5 November.
So get promoting this in your home towns/clubs and lets see if we can make this tournament even bigger than last year when we had an excellent turnout.
Hope to see you all there....

It is with great regret that we have to advise that Paul Davies has
sadly lost his battle against cancer. He died on 5 November and in
tribute we will be dedicating a Player of the Tournament trophy at the
English Championships to Paul.
Condolences to all of Pauls family and friends from the Racketlon
Community.

I paid £18 for a tournament membership for 1 year.
Depending on tournament average discount is £5 so I need to play in 4 tournaments to make it worth my while.
This could adapted to suit the higher fees paid for racketlon tournaments (not a complaint !) but I think if it balances out to 4 tournaments before you get your money back that would be about right.
Happy to help in any way with this.

Thanks Rod
Whats the system in Scotland Squash and how does it work in terms of how much you pay and the discount you get?
My knowledge is limited to English Table Tennis, which is as Gary Jackson mentioned a bit cheeky and players perceive it as a premium, which is not what we want to do.......... ..

I much prefere 21 up as well, and as I normally have to travel quite a bit to get to events would prefere more 2 day events.
The team events on Sat followed by singles on Sun would also interest me.
As to payments, in Scottish squash we can pay a yearly membership fee which then gives us reduced fees to tournaments, this encourages people to play in more tournaments to get their money back !
Training camp would be good but again a lot of travel for me.

I also think games to 21 are much better for the reasons Ray and Marc have mentioned. Also luck, something Marc knows a lot about!!! can have much more of an effect in games up to 11.
