Mark - Thanks for the kind words, I didnt see your matches mate but you must
done yourself justice. Finishing 5th in a tournament of that high quality is no
mean feat even if Rickard not turning up gave you the dream draw, you still had
to put in the performances. Robert Reeve and Richard Whitehouse are both
excellent players and you should be congratulated on beating also Alex Koepf
which is perhaps the win of your career? You were certainly a candidate for
player of the tournament, but Ray Simpson pipped it for the reasons outlined in
the report and my speech.
Mark/Steve
Just to re-iterate Phil's comments as FIR Ranking Officer, I tried to get the
World Rankings put on to the "Place" system instead of the "straight knockout
and plate system" however I was told this would not be in place before the 2007
World Tour.
The good news is The British Rankings are calculated based on placings and both
yourself and Steve have done well in this respect. I even heard Keith Lesser has
dropped slightly down the rankings which is a scandal, who does these rankings
anyway?!!?!?!
The London Open at Heston in December is looking good, just need to get the
arrangements finalised. Then I will do my best to get the 2007 diary sorted next
year as I know Mr Thomson gets it out on Jan 1st :-)))))
Right now upcoming tournaments (provisionally are)
2nd-3rd Dec - London Open - David Lloyd Heston
22nd Jan 2007 - Birmingham Open - Tipton Sports Academy
Feb 2007 - Essex Open
March 07 - South of England Open Eastbourne
April 07 - British Champs, Dudley and North of England Open - Teeside
Etc, etc English Open - 18th-19th August (maybe doubles on 17th, we are talking
about it). Scottish Open in Sep and maybe the re-launch of the British Open back
at Dudley in Oct as a challenger event (50% World Ranking points but not part of
the world tour).
All British based tournaments (apart from the international ones - English Open,
British Open and Scottish Open) will be standardised as far as possible with the
following features:
1. Weekend format (doubles sat, singles sun) or one day singles - 11 up to be
used if necessary.
2. Standard Categories
3. Prize money if the budget allows
4. Trophies for top 3 places in each draw.
5. Entry fees of £22.50 for singles and £25 per doubles pair.
These are just some of our ideas and I welcome any feedback before launch. We
need more sponsors and money in the bank to fund our DVD project for English
Open 2007!!!!!
If anyone has good excell skills and is enthusiastic about racketlon and would
like to get involved please email me directly about becoming British Rankings
Officer. This is a task taking about 1 hour a month (if you are good at excell).
And in the future will be used as a seeding system for The British Racketlon
Tour, now that sufficient British Tournaments have taken place we feel the
British Rankings are no longer wholly inaccurate. Although there are still some
funny ones, how can I still be in the top 10?!?!?
