karate is my way of life. i think master funakoshi may have said that first,
but it is more a part of me than just working out/ training. description is
just words, but you know that it is part of you as well. in each of you it has
grabbed and rooted somewhere, each person in their own way. but you know it is
part of you.
continuing in "good" karate, as opposed to commercial karate-type workout
will lead you to a more intense knowledge of it, so it is important to keep your
training alive and help others with theirs. however small, put the club back
together. if you do not have a 'regular' higher level instructor train together
and i would suggest inviting instructors to help teach and working on the
valuable points they bring. jon keeling's classes can be worked on for a month,
easily. attention to each major detail can be good for developing classes for at
least a week or two.
invite other instructors, but maintain your independence. bruce lee said do
not follow a dogma (or for kyle, a cat-ma). everyone has something good to
teach or learn from their 'wrong=ness'.
but keep training because it will put you in contact with higher levels as
you go along, definitely more than if you do not train.
i am having a karate great learning experience here in san diego with the
amazing steve ubl sensei, as well as great aikido with aikikai of san diego. i
would not have come to this or the appreciation of it without the training i got
at ucsc and with sensei keeling.
keep your training going. how many other people get to have such great
facilities, even the racquetball courts, for next to nothing in one of the most
beautiful campuses in the world. good luck i wish i could be there with you,
but in spirit i will be. aloha.
