A $5 donation is suggested from those there to watch.
Believe me when I say that watching a class taught by Ubl Sensei
is both very exhilarating and very frustrating. Actually, being in
the class is as well... Watching, you would definitely feel
the excitement and see the educational value of his teaching.
But you will feel frustrated for not being in the middle of
the action, participating in the class. (If you are in the class,
you may feel a little frustrated seeing that a person can actually
do what he explains we should be doing, but unable to do it
well yourself)
In case you didn't already pick up on this from Willson Sensei and
myself already, this is the guy to train with. Remember Takahashi
Sensei, who used to show up to teach when almost nobody else
came to class at UCSC? Well he was nothing compared to Ubl Sensei.
I have trained with almost all the most highly-ranked and
highly-regarded Shotokan instructors on the planet and can tell
you that ALL OF THEM could learn something from this man.
There are people who would be more than happy to pay $200 for a
class with him. And I have been offered $10,000 for the videotape
of the class that he taught one evening during the Hoitsugan
Seminars in 2004 where several of us who had spent many years
living and training in Japan declared that the best class we
had ever had, anywhere.
Too late to plan the trip up this weekend? You will get more
chances to train with him at the Hoitsugan Seminars in March.
But please be forewarned that those classes will be much less
personal than these this weekend, as there will be many more
people at the event in March.
Hope to see many of you from Santa Cruz at the seminars this
weekend. And if you know others doing Shotokan elsewhere, please
let them know about the Hoitsugan Seminars now, particularly
if they may need time to arrange the trip from elsewhere.
How many people would be interested in me coming down to teach
this coming Sunday? It may be the last chance before my
2nd hip surgery...
