Tyler will host a professional Baseball game for the first time since 2001 as the Coastal Bend Kingfish and the Texas Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League are set to play Tuesday, July 28 on The University of Texas at Tyler campus.
The game, set for 7 p.m. at UT Tyler’s Irwin Field, is being sponsored by Food Fast Convenience Stores and the Food Fast Children’s Charities.
“Thanks to Jay Misenheimer and Food Fast, we are able to give the Tyler community a chance watch some great professional Baseball,” said UT Tyler athletic director James Vilade. “Baseball is a big part of the summer and we wanted to make sure that fans in Tyler, especially the younger fans, had the opportunity to take part in America’s pastime.”
All tickets for the game will be $5 and can be purchased at the gate prior to the game. In addition, all fans 12 and under will receive autographs from members of the Gunslingers and Kingfish. Gates open at 5 p.m.
“Food Fast has a great relationship with UT Tyler baseball and the entire athletics department so we are very excited to partner with the University and Coach Vilade to bring this game to Tyler,” said Misenheimer, owner of Food Fast Convenience Stores. “This is a great chance for baseball fans to see quality Baseball at an outstanding facility and it is an opportunity for the kids to get to meet some pro players. We want everyone to come out and enjoy a great night of Baseball.”
Founded in 2006 and played its inaugural season May-August 2007, the Continental Baseball League (CBL) is dedicated to creating “America’s Hometown Teams”—a group of professional independent baseball franchises, playing in fan-friendly facilities, providing a fun environment for families to experience professional Baseball at affordable prices.
Continental Baseball League players are part of their hometown team community—providing complimentary autographs after games, spending time at schools, hosting camps, and participating in local events. With the League's support, players are given the opportunity to improve their skills, expose and parlay their unique baseball talents to scouts; and if they desire and qualify, move into positions with Major League Baseball affiliated organizations. In our third season of play, the CBL has expanded to 6 teams, which include the Alexandria Aces, Bay Area Toros, Big Bend Cowboys, Coastal Kingfish, South Louisiana Pipeliners, and Texas Gunslingers.
The CBL is proud to have sent over 20 players to Major League Baseball affiliated organizations including the Dodgers, Phillies, Astros, Royals and Marlins.
