Debbie,
Is Tom still over at the Rehab? I am taking therapy just down the road and thought I would stop in for a visit? What's his prognosis?

I was scanning Tom's email to keep him up to date on his mail and realized that I had not let anyone know what is going on. He is in HealthSouth Rehap Hospital of Tyler (3131 Troup Hwy., Room 130A). He is doing remarkable. He is, of course, learning to do things with limited use of his left side, but he is now able to dress himself, and pretty much get around with the use of a w/chair. He is learning to walk with the aid of a small right-sided walker and indications are that within the next two weeks he may be graduating to a four-footed cane. He was able to walk 55 ft. yesterday, totally independent of help!! His spirits are still good and he is really looking forward to getting back home and get back to his computer. Of course, knowing Tom you know he has quite a sense of humor and has been making friends and popping jokes with other "inmates" as they call themselves. Just so you know he is not the youngest person there. There are at least five or so patients who are his age or younger that have had various accidents, strokes, etc., but they keep the older patients laughing and upbeat. That has been extremely good for him as well as the others in his situation. All in all, things are looking upbeat. At this time, he is scheduled for discharge to home on Dec. 13. He has had pad and paper and has been making notes so he should be able to get back to writing his book, but is really looking forward to reaching back out to everyone via email. We are very grateful for everyone's prays and thankful for this miracle that has given him back to us. Hopefully, the next message you get will be from him.Debbie
