TrackChasers:

There is another new option available on the www.roamingtheraceways.com website.

Recently we had the spotlight focused on friendly (hopefully) TrackChaser
competition through trophy and plaque awards provided to us and fully sponsored
by Tim Frost and the National Speedway Directory. There is another TrackChaser
achievement recognition program in the planning stages as well.

It was suggested that an option be available for anyone that meets the criteria
for webiste inclusion and who wants to be an active and participating member of
the group, but for whatever reason, would prefer not to be part of any
competitive ranking system. The "Voluntarily Non Ranked TrackChaser" option is
now available. This option provides a way to display an overall track list that
is updated weekly as new tracks are reported, while voluntarily not appear in
any statistical rankings. To see a sample of this option, visit the WILL WHITE
track list on the website.

Don't forget the other recently added options for displaying track listings. An
opportunity to add non TC countable "Tracks with Non TrackChaser Classes or
Formats" and "Non TrackChaser Tracks" to your track lists. These tracks will
not appear in any statistical tally or affect any ranking in any way. To see a
sample of both of these options, visit the RICK YOUNG track list on the website.

Any listed TrackChaser can now add personal "Notes" to any of their tracks. To
see a sample of this option, visit the VIRGINIA SCHULER track list on the
webpage.

TC countable tracks may voluntarily be permanently deleted from a track list if
a person decides they do not want to count a particular countable track for
personal reasons. To see a sample of this option, visit the NANCY BROWN track
list on the webpage.

There are at least two more additional options in various stages of
implementation. The intent is to give everyone more flexibility within the
framework of the TrackChaser group counting guidelines so that they can have
more control over their individual track listing and how it is displayed. The
result will hopefully be a more fun and enjoyable hobby for everyone. Please
continue to submit your ideas. If an idea is technologically feasible, does not
interfere with the existing options of other group members and their choices,
and does not conflict with the TC countability guidelines, it will be strongly
considered.

The feedback and suggestions are very helpful in trying to provide a site for
everyone to display their TrackChasing accomplishments in a way that is
enjoyable to them. Keep them coming.

Thanks,

Guy Smith

On my way out to San Diego on Sat I had decided to go to Toccoa Speedway in Ga
for their weekly show. Since they no longer have a web site, they make
anouncements on their forum. Their info as of Fri eve was racing on Sat. I
checked on Sat aft to find races were cacelled do to flooding from the storms on
Friday. At least they are open this year.
Plan B has me head on over to Eastaboga Al. to catch the racing action at the
Talladega Short Track. I arrived in time for the begining of time trials for the
super latemodels with 23 on hand and multipule heats for the crate latemodels
16, sportsman 18,street stocks 9 and their 4cyl div 24. Nice to see the good car
counts, good sized crowd onhand for a well run show.

Julian,

We DO care. One of the best parts of this deal is the telling of
stories to any and all that will hear them. I wish I had more time to do so.
Never be intimidated by some of the numbers or believe your own numbers
aren't worthy. So many times the good bench racing to, from and at the track is
better than the actual racing. I hope you get to share a road trip with any
of us some day to see what I mean. This past weekend was proof of what I
say. On the way to champkart hell at NHIS, Guy, Mike and I got to enjoy a
nice show at the Waterford Speedbowl and raise the tide in the sea of sarcasm
as we watched the Granite State Kart Club stumble and bumble their way
through their program while lamenting "a little bad luck".The confusion brought
about by malfunctioning transponders was as comical as it was ridiculous.
Why, they had to actually score the racing by hand with real people. The
Horror! I wonder how racing survived all these years doing just that. No
matter how much we see, we will never see it all. Adios.

Hello colleagues,

For the second consecutive week, I added 4 new tracks to my portfolio. The major
difference with last week is that I trackchased in 3 different countries and had
to drive quite a bit to get them.

Before I was a trackchaser, I regularly drove to Italy to watch races. I always
went via Luxemburg, France and Switzerland (where I sometimes attended a non
countable motorsport event en route). Until Tuesday of last week, I planned to
use this itinerary again, but then I realised I could take in a race at
Hockenheim on Saturday morning as well. Under the old road course counting
rules, I visited two Hockenheim track configurations, the full track on my first
and most other visits and the shorter version using a part dubbed the
"Querspange" on a number of Swiss races. The long fast and sinister straights in
the woods (where Jim Clark met his match in 1968, were cut off about 10 years
ago and the Querspange variant was slightly redesigned (a much tighter hairpin
as its connection with the former back straight and a dogleg right before the
"stadium" section). As the DTM where having their first race of the year over
there, I found out I could add this variant to my portfolio on Saturday morning,
when the European Formula 3 championship had its first race there.

After another week of torrential rain, it was a relief that not only the
temperatures had gone up a lot, but that it was dry for once as well. As it's
not a holiday period, the traffic on the motorway was fluid, but the numerous
Dutchmen with caravans where, as usual, a hazard. Still, it only took me only 4
hours to drive the 300 miles to the track and I was half an hour early for the
11.15 a.m. start of the Formula 3 race. At that time, I found a parking spot
very hear the entrance. A lot has changed inside the premises since my last
visit 12 years ago. There now are standing spots. I paid for one of those partly
because I could watch from a spot, totally new to me and partly, because I could
make my exit a lot faster. At this early time, there was not a crowd at all. The
Formula 3 race was quite good. They raced hard but were well behaved. When I
left at noon, the temperature was up to 33° Centigrade) and the spectators come
in massive hordes to watch DTM qualifying. When I left the parking lot to get
back to the motorway, I saw the waiting line of incoming cars stretched for 5
miles.

Traffic on the southbound motorway was denser than in the morning, but I still
made good progress. In Switzerland though, progress was a lot slower, do to a
combination of speed limits and major roadwork. Still, I arrived in one of my
long time favourite hotels, the Albergo Giardino in Desio, near Monza. The ten
times I went to see races at Monza and several other times, I've stayed there.
My previous stay was in early 2005, but the place hasn't changed a bit since
then. Neither did the excellent fish restaurant I always have dinner in when in
Desio. My first few hours in Italy couldn't have been more enjoyable.

Life so much nicer in Italy than in Belgium and the Sunday morning weather put
another positive layer on top. With clear blue skies, no wind and 30° C, it felt
like a perfect summer's day. As fuel prices in Italy are probably the highest
anywhere (how does $12 per gallon sound to you), there wasn't much traffic on
the motorway. It was about 3 hours to my first port of call, the permanent dirt
course at Lendinara (near Rovigo in the VENeto region). The track is a flat and
very compact sandy course with lots of slow and one long fast corner. There
wasn't much creature comfort: no catering and only standing spots along the slow
section of the track. They charged a mere EUR 5 but still the number of
spectators was rather poor. They raced in seven classes: one for crosskarts, one
for buggies and five for saloon cars. At 11, the smallest saloon car class drew
most cars, followed by the crosskarts with 10. As each class drove three 12
minute heats, the larger saloon and buggy races were not good, as the fields
were very uneven. The other saloons and the crosskarts were much more evenly
matched and produced excellent races. As is often the case in Italy, they had an
hour intermission between the first and second heats to allow spectators and
competitors to lunch outside the premises. I had a nice quick lunch in the
village centre, before driving back to the track for the second heats.

After watching those second heats, I got on the road again for the 25 miles
separating me from Conselve (also in the VENeto region). There I had a bit of a
hard time finding the very small sand course used for the stockcar cross,
starting at 4.00 p.m. This was dubbed a stockcarcross and it was organised by
the same sanctioning body that put on the Ceregnano meeting I watched with the
Smiths last year. Again they raced 3 heats in 3 classes of small saloon cars.
This was a much more popular event than the one earlier in the day and the
standing enclosure around the tight little course was packed. I was also
surprised the fields were larger than last year, although no class had double
figures. Unlike at Ceregnano, where we left when a long delay was announced
after a car overturned, this meeting went by without a hitch and just before
6.00 p.m., I got on the road again for the 25 minute drive to Rovigo, where I
stayed in the same Best Western hotel as last year. The lady at the reception
immediately recognised me, not because I'm such a handsome fellow, but because
last year I caused her a bit of trouble by losing my room key at the Ceregnano
race. As those keys were very unusual, they didn't have a spare. Luckily, I
happened to have a phone number from the organising club and the reception lady
informed me after a call that my room key had been found at the race track and
someone would come and bring it. Amazingly, after dinner, the key had indeed
been left at the reception. Things like that endear Italy to me. Anyway, I could
guarantee the reception lady no repeat of last years trouble was on, as I had
been to the race prior to checking in and I would only leave my room to dine in
the hotel's restaurant. By the way, dinner and its accompanying wine were both
excellent.

After a good night's sleep and an excellent breakfast (unusual in Italy), I was
geared up for another day on the road. Apparently, I was not the only one taking
a day off to bridge the gap between the weekend and the May 1 public holiday,
for traffic on the motorway and the Milan ring road was a fraction of what it is
on a normal working day. I made such good progress that I could visit two
splendid medieval castles in the Val d'Aosta region (sadly with Basilicata and
the German speaking Autonome Provinz Bozen one of the few Italian regions
without any countable racing). Val d'Aosta is a superb mountainous region, which
hosts the high altitude Gran Paradiso National Park, the first one ever to be
established on European soil. I had no time to visit it, but Aline has put it on
our agenda a year or so ago and one day we'll spend a few days over there. In
the late afternoon, I crossed into France using the Mont Blanc tunnel
(underneath Europe's highest mountain), drove for another two hours and stayed
at the Ibis Hotel at Mâcon. It was situated south of town in an area with
several other chain hotels and restaurants. I dined at the Grill Courtepaille.
This is a restaurant chain specialising in steak. Dinner wasn't bad at all, but
the pace of service was simply too fast. A welcoming salad, a starter, a steak
main course, a cheese platter and an espresso were all served in less than 65
minutes. No wonder, I needed a long evening walk to let it all "settle down".

Tuesday being a holiday, it was self service for breakfast at the Ibis.
Breakfast is maybe not the right term for a third of a baguette with butter and
a cup of coffee. The French were still sleeping in, for there was hardly a
vehicle in sight all the way to Magny-Cours. I always assumed the Circuit Nevers
Magny-Cours had only one configuration. I was surprised to learn a few months
ago that a group of amateur racers was going to drive on the club track. Upon
investigation, I learned that in 2003 a completely separate track of 2.5 km was
built adjacent to the former Grand Prix track. This track is mainly used for car
testing and it has its own amenities (conference rooms, a restaurant), including
a sprinkler system to create a wet track. A few times a month, it's also used by
car clubs for clubman's races. This time, a group of sports and saloon cars was
in the early stages of an apparent long distance race when I arrived. The track
is a lot nicer than its tedious big brother. It's devoid of guard rails, walls
or sand traps. It's just a nice flat rectangular asphalt road course with a
tight infield hairpin loop in a large green meadow. Visibility is perfect,
making it a nice place to watch mildly tuned road cars being put through their
paces. Because there was no PA and the pit area was cordoned off, I wasn't able
to ask anybody about the race format, but when I left one hour later, they were
still racing. I couldn't stay any longer though, for I needed to clear the
Parisian area before its inhabitants returned from their extended weekend

By 4.00 p.m. I arrived south of Paris and 75 minutes later, I was on the
motorway to Belgium. I had a weekend of intensive driving and not so many hours
of watching wheel to wheel racing, but I could combine a 48 hour stay in my
beloved Italy with a visit to a new track variant of one former and one current
Grand Prix track. That made it a very enjoyable trip and also good practice for
my forthcoming August trip to the USA.

I've got no idea what I'll do trackchasingwise next weekend. Taking a week off
and maybe going to Zandvoort on the Sunday looks the most likely option.

Roland

Very useful update to the speedwaysonline site that allows to search for tracks
on multiple criteria. It makes the locator much more fan (and TrackChaser)
friendly. It has helped me a couple of times already. Nice improvement.

Looking forward to seeing the new NSD available in less than two weeks.

TrackChasers:

According to Mike Feltenberger, writing on the Speedway Entertainment
(Slingshots and SpeedSTRs) website, the Victory Speedway is almost complete.
This is the inner oval at the Orange County Fairgrounds. Victory Speedway is
what they are calling the inner track, homage to one of the early names for the
half mile speedway. They plan on racing on Sunday afternoons, and a Slingshot
Tour race is scheduled for August 19.

I'm surprised they built the track so fast, as just recently it was mentioned
that construction on the track had not yet begun.

The Orange County Speedway website does not appear to mention the track or the
Sunday racing. Since I don't have a new track to visit this Saturday night. I
might try to stop there this Saturday to see for myself and report on the
status. It might be a good time to go, as they have the 305 Sprints joining the
Modifieds.

TrackChasers:

(Weekly Listserve Update #70). It was a huge week for our TrackChaser
Community. In the past seven days, I added 85 new track visits to the TC
Database. All of those visits were TC countable track visits from active group
members. There are many achievements to celebrate.

The bulk of the 85 new tracks came from Dale O'Brien, who added 61 new tracks
that were missing from his track list from the past five years, including six
from 2012. His track listing is now up-to-date on the website, making 23 of the
top 25 that are up-to-date at least through the end of 2011. That's the highest
percentage we have had with fully active status in quite some time.

Besides Dale, both Dwight Bucks and Roland Vanden Eynde added pre-2012 tracks
that had been missing from their track lists.

Borger's Speedway held their first complete race program as a pavement track,
and nine of our listed TrackChaser group were on hand at the same time to see
the show. This is one of our largest gatherings at one track at the same time,
especially outdoors. For Virginia Schuler, not only was it her first new track
of 2012, but it was her first new track of this decade, and it became her 8th
consecutive decade of seeing a new race track. Quite a "lifetime acheivement".
For Bruce Eckel, it was his 99th track in Pennsylvania. A great accomplishment,
as he is only one track away from 100 in his home state. Even more amazing is
the fact that Bruce was only the TrackChaser with the 7th most PA tracks at
Borger's that afternoon. Bing Metz, on a "break" from racing his Legend Car
after a 2011 leg fracture, visited his first new track of the year and received
his TC Champion plaque from National Speedway Directory, as did Will White.
Everybody was pleased to meet group member Chris Tyrrel in person for the first
time.

Mike Knappenberger recorded the most prolific weekend of anyone this year,
racing to eight different tracks in four days in three different states, two
that have not been visited by any of the group so far in 2012.

In total, tracks were added for 14 differnet group members just last week. Dale
O'Brien, Virginia Schuler, and Bing Metz added 2012 tracks for the first time
this year, bringing our total of group members recording 2012 tracks to 23.

New states added this week were Pennsylvania by many, Iowa by Mike
Knappenberger, Minnesota by Mike Knappenberger, and Alabama by Brian Hickey.
That brings the total number of tracks visited by the group to 21 states.

The 27 new 2012 track visits added this week brings our group total to over 100
for this year. That's not enough, we want more.

Anyone who wants to * add dates to their listed tracks, * change or complete
track namesthat appear on their track list, * add information to their
personal"Notes" column for each track, * add tracks in either or both of the non
TC group categories, * orrequest any other changes to their track lists are
encouraged to do soat any time and if possible, the changes will be made in the
order theyaresubmitted.

There have been 123 new tracks reported so far in 2012. Mike Knappenberger
paces the field with 26.

TrackChasers:

This week I absolutely needed to be home Sunday to cut the grass, which might
have been the longest it's ever been since we bought the joint eight years ago.
Mike Knappenberger, fresh off his 8-track (and I am not referring to an outdated
1970's music delivery format) weekend in the upper Midwest, asked if we couldn't
go somewhere to get a new track and still be home on Sunday to do the chores. I
told Mike that I believed that we could.

The "Course de Bazous" Provincial Championship series was running in Quebec at
the Festival de l'Érable de Plessisvile. The Saturday morning 10:00 a.m.
starting time worked out perfectly for us. We left my house a bit after 5:00 on
Friday, as both Mike and I put in a full work day. Six hours later we were
pulling into the Super 8 Motel in Plattsburgh, NY. We were up early on Saturday
morning and on the road by 7:00, as the festival was still three hours away.

We sailed through the border crossing as there was not another car in sight in
either direction. When we got to Drummondville, we stopped at Tim Horton's for
a coffee and a muffin. We arrived at the festival in Plessisville almost
exactly at 10:00.

They call these races "Course de Bazous", which roughly translates to race of
jalopies. But these types of races are called many other things. In some other
places (Quebec being one of them), it goes by the name of Autoquad, in other
places it might be Banger Racing, or Autocross, or Democross, or Bump n Run, or
Enduro Derby. But the premise is basically the same. Take a old car, join a
bunch of other racers in old cars, and race them as hard as possible on tracks
that range from flat ovals, flat road courses, and even courses with jumps. The
fans love it.

This particular group has 2012 races at six different locations in Quebec, with
their home base being the motocross track at Saint Ferdinand. This past
weekends events was the opening weekend of the year, and the first visit ever to
this location.

When Mike and I arrived, we accidently went to the wrong entrance and ended up
with $15 pit passes when we really wanted $10 spectator tickets. Since we had
the pit pases, we walked through the pits and saw a full pit area with over 100
cars in several different classes of cars.

There were several grandstands along the frontstretch, and they were pretty much
packed with fans. The track was probably a bit shorter than a half mile, and
was basically a "kidney-bean" shaped flat road course.

Racing started a little late, but once they started the races were run off in
rapid-fire fashion. The races are very short in duration, and featured 7-10
starters. The races begin from a standing start and the cars line up just off
the track. This works out great, as they can line the next race up while the
current race is still in progress. The races seemed a little cleaner here, with
less crashing. This resulted in very little cleanup of disabled cars between
races.

This was my fourth time seeing this particular group race. At Saint Ferdinand
(Motocross track), the track was a bit too big and had too many elevation
changes (jumps). At La Guadaloupe (Stables), the dust was terrible. At Val
Alain (Campground), the oval track was the best of the three, but the dirt
surface was very sandy and loose and had to be steam-rolled after every couple
of races. But at Plessisville (Festival), the track seemed just about right and
even though this was the first race here, it might have been the best of the
four.

We watched several hours of racing, hitting the road before 1:00 p.m., which was
the time that the tractor pulls were supposed to begin. The festival was
three-days, and featured many other activities. The car races were back for a
second day on Sunday, when jumps would be added to the course. I couldn't leave
Quebec without a hot dog, as Quebec has the best I've tasted. The grilled jumbo
dog wrapped in bacon and topped with ketchup, mustard, and onions, and served on
a toasted roll did not disappoint in any way. Neither did the races at
Plessisville.

This was the fourth year in a row I've seen this group race in one of their race
sites. There are still two more sites for me to visit, so I expect that I will
cross paths with the group again in a future year, if not again in 2012.

We got to the border before 4:00, and once again found no one in line. We
sailed across and returned to the USA, where we headed for Orange County to
watch some Hard Clay action and check out the rumors of a new inner oval track.

On Fri I attented the regular weekly show at the El Paso Speedway Park in Tx.
Very good competative racing in all divisions with high car counts and a well
run show.
On Sat eve I finally got to see a show at Thunderhill Speedway in Kyle Tx.
Usually I am in the area on there off week or mother nature has different plans
for me. A very nice facility with a good crowd on hand to watch a well run show
that had the smallest car counts of any track that I have witnessed sidr by side
racing at.

Julian,

Adios.

PJ and All:

After reading the group's written rules, visiting the track itself this past
Saturday, talking to people at the track, and conferring with the former
commissioner Will White to attempt to assure consistency over time, I am
convinced that by rule and not ruling, the new inner oval track at the Orange
County Fairgrounds does not count as a different track from the temporary inner
oval that operated in 2007 and 2008 during the fair. The track willcount as a
different track (an inner oval) than the big 5/8th's miletrack (the outer oval).

This new version of an inner oval is not a permanent track at all like it
wasback in the day of the original Victory Speedway inner track, which operated
as a dirt track until 1946 and as a paved track from 1946 until 1961. All they
did for this year was to bow half of the row of jersey barriers (towards the
turn one/two side of the bigger track) that separate the pit lane from the pits,
into a little bit of anarc. Then when they are going to race, they are going to
alter some ofthe other row of jersey barriers that separates the bigger track
fromthe pit lane so there are openings to race from the backstretch (pitlane) to
the frontstretch (half mile). They will have to put thebarriers back in place
for the next time they race on the big track, and keep rearranging them over and
over everytime the little track runs. The inner track that some went to in 2007
was temporary, completely on thefrontstretch of the bigger track. Tthe new
inner oval ishalf on the frontstretch and half on the pit lane, but the track
willfor the most part have to be set up each time for use. Just a bigger
versionof a temporary inner oval that shares common ground with the previous
version, not a different track by rule.

The following TrackChasers have counted the previous version of the inner oval
and thus are not eligible to count this version: Brian Hickey, PJ Hollebrand,
Gordy Killian, Mike Knappenberger, Guy Smith, Pam Smith, Eleanor Weidman, Paul
Weidman, and Paul Weisel. All visited in 2007.

The track would count as an inner oval track for everyone else not mentioned
above.

TrackChasers:

After leaving Plessisville early in the afternoon on Saturday, Mike and I headed
towards home. We figured we could make the features at the Orange County Fair
Speedway in Middletown, NY. Although they were starting at 6:30, I figured we
could make it there by 8:00 and still see the main events.

We arrived a little before 8:00, found a spot on the fairgrounds, and headed to
the ticket booth. Admission was $14, which was a fair price and less than I was
expecting because not only did the have the regular top two classes of Modifieds
and Sportsman, they also had the CSRA 305 Sprints. I handed them a twenty
dollar bill, grabbed my wrist band and the change, and ran in because the
sprints were on the track. When I looked at my change, I was shocked that for
the first time in my life, I was charged the "Senior Citizen" price of $12.
Since I am only 52, that was a bit insulting, but two bucks saved is two bucks
saved.

I was very disappointed to see that one of my favorite food stands in all of
racing, under the main grandstand where they sold the beef and onion and ham
sandwiches, was closed. Since Frankie's Sausage Bar is long gone, this was
devastating news as I had not eaten much all day in anticipation of one of each
of those fine sandwiches.

We headed to the half-covered grandstand to watch the end of the heats and the
first two features. During that time, I sampled some fresh cut fries, which
were good but not as good as I remembered from when they were in the big stand
under the grandstands. That stand, which had the fries and the maxi-dough, was
also closed. Later I had a pizza which was cold.

I also stocked up on some old programs to familiarize myself with the happenings
at Orange County, as I had not been there for a few years but it's been decades
since I was at a Saturday night show. At this time I checked out what I could
figure out where the inner oval track is going to be located, and asked around a
bit to find out exactly what is going to happen with that. As reported in a
separate post, it will be a different track from the half mile (oops, 5/8ths),
but not different from the temporary frontstretch track where a bunch of us saw
the Slingshots race in 2007.

The crowd was better than I was expecting, and it was good to see a lot of young
kids having a good time at the races (there were five kids flagging from the
grandstand). The lighting was better than it used to be too. Still not as good
as a lot of tracks, but better is better. I also thought the track surface was
in good shape. The dust was much less than I was used to at this track, and the
track did seem to offer more than just one rubbered-up groove near the bottom.

There were a lot, and I do mean a lot, of very nice paint jobs on the 75
Modifieds and Sportsman cars on hand.

The show was just too much for one evening. Even though they started at 6:30,
they had four regular classes (Modifieds, Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman, and
Street Stocks). In addition, they added the CSRA Sprint Cars to the card, and
then for some reason decided to add a held over Sportsman feature to the program
this same week. Thankfully, they gave the other stocker class the night off.
The Modifieds had just enough cars to fill the feature field and did not need a
consie, the Street Stocks had only 14 cars so they ran only two heats and a
feature. It makes no sense to me why 32 Sportsman are split into four 8-car
heats and not three 11-car heats. They won't even put 11 cars on the track for
a heat race? The result is at least one heat where they had fewer cars on the
track racing than there were qualifying spots. Is that what they really want to
give the fans?

In the Sportsman B-Main, there was a big crash and caused a nearly half hour
delay for cleanup and to wait for an ambulance. Racing resumed and the last
seven laps of the consie were run, and then they went into the "very brief"
intermission. It was 9:45, which means it took over three hours just to get
qualifying complete when only two classes out of five needed B-Mains. And they
only had a few minutes of racing after the break for the crash. Couldn't that
nearly half hour of down-time been considered the intermission? And if that
half hour was the "very brief" version of their intermission, I'd hate to be
there for the long version, or even the regular one.

For the features, we sat in the main covered grandstand. In over 30 years of
coming to this track, I had never sat in this grandstand for a Modified race on
the big track, because they used to charge extra to sit there, which is no
longer the case. it was really cool! I am not a fan of the new lineup system.
I like handicapping for weekly shows, and I'm not falling for the line that
starting the top drivers in the front makes for better racing because they can
race against each other and not have to spend their time coming through the
pack. Put my vote in for seeing them come through the pack. But I did enjoy
the race from that location. Tim Hindley started in the front row and was never
really challenged for the lead. However, the cars seemed fast, they raced hard,
and the frontstretch looked damn narrow from this view.

Unfortunately, by the time the Modified feature was over, it was almost 11:00
and the show was in its fifth hour. For some reason, they decided to place the
visiting CSRA Sprint Cars at the very end of the program, the sixth and last
feature of the night. Although it was the sprints that made us decide to stop
at OC in the first place, discretion was the better part of valor on this day.
With a Sportsman main in between, with us having been up since 6:00 a.m., on the
road at 7:00, already had a race and ten hours of driving in the books, plus
another nearly two hours more driving to get home; we headed out at the first
caution of the Sportsman feature. We pulled into the driveway at my house at
12:45 a.m. I read later that there was no lead change in the sprint feature
either. Another wire-to-wire win.

Overall, it was a pretty good evening getting reacquainted with the Orange
County Fair Speedway. I was afraid of what I might find there, recalling the
sad state of Flemington during my final visit. But Orange County seems to be
holding its own, and the number of kids at the races, which means families at
the races, is certainly above average for short tracks, and that is good to see.
I left feeling pretty good about the near future of this race track.

According to the track website, the new track at the Lebanon Valley Speedway
will be running Slingshots as well as karts every Sunday starting this week.
Hopefully they will get enough for this to continue on a weekly basis. This is
not an inner oval, the track is located outside of the half mile. I'd check to
make sure they had some Slingshots or Senior Champ Karts this week before
venturing up there.

More from Orange County. The return of the inner oval is tentatively scheduled
for sometime during the fair, which begins July 13.

In other Slingshot news outside of New York, plans for the Little Diamond appear
to still be on track, albeit the train is traveling a lot slower than originally
expected. I am betting the little track will indeed be built at some point.

Slingshots have also bee invited to hold a tour race on the paved inner oval at
Stafford Springs, CT; although nothing is finalized as of yet.

TrackChasers:

(Weekly Listserve Update #71). During the 18th week of the year, nine tracks
were added for seven different TrackChasers, and one track was deleted from the
datebase. The group added a new TrackChaser to the list of 2012 participants,
added one new country to our list for 2012, and also added one new US state.

Races were added on four of the seven days this week, as Roland Vanden Eynde got
the TrackChasing week off to an early start with a race in France.

Roger Ferrell visited the new dirt oval inside the paved oval at Plymouth, IN;
and became the 24th group member to report a new track in 2012.

Chris Tyrrel went on a race trip to Vermont, and that became the 22nd different
US state visited by the group for new tracks this year.

Rick Young returned to his racing roots and added one new track while visiting
his home country, bringing the group's country total this year to 12.

Mike Knappenberger added to his impressive tally of 26 tracks already this year,
with a new track in Quebec bringing his total to 27. While adding "Notes" to
all of Mike's over 850 tracks this week, it was discovered that he had one track
on his track list twice; once from 2006 and once from 2009. The latter record
was completely removed from his track list and the database.

Our group reported tracks in four different countries during this past week.
I'm perpetually in awe of what we as a group do in pursuit of the hobby.

There have been 132 new tracks reported so far in 2012. That's not enough, we
want more. Mike Knappenberger paces the field with 27.

Hello colleagues,

After my very nice German-Italian-French trip of two weeks ago, the
weather turned to autumn again over here. Thus, I decided to stay at
home on the first weekend of May. My satellite TV supplied me with an
abundance of live racing from the USA (both Nationwide and Sprint Cup
races from Talladega), Hungary (WTCC, Formula 3), Belgium (World Sports
Car Championship), Germany (DTM), the Netherlands (German GT), Italy
(Italian GT) and Poland (rally stage). But I'm not really a coach
potato, so I felt an urge to get on the road again. As I had purchased
my Swiss motorway toll sticker two weeks ago and those stickers are
valid for an entire calendar year, why not go back to Switzerland to add
the only countable race of 2012 to my portfolio. It'll be no real
surprise to Will that the Bure autocross is again cancelled this year,
leaving only the event at Hoch Ybrig.

I started my journey on Saturday at 5.00 a.m. and this time I did take
my normal route to Switzerland via Luxemburg (always handy to fill up,
as at $6.10 a gallon diesel fuel is the cheapest in Europe) and France.
Only trouble was that unlike Bure, which is bang on the French border,
Hoch Ybrig is in Central Switzerland, much further east and at a much
higher altitude. It took me about 8 hours to reach Schwyz, where I found
a room in a nice and cosy small hotel. I checked in before driving the
last 12 miles up to Hoch Ybrig on a mountainous road in a steady
drizzle. Moreover, it was cold up there. .

The event I saw was the first round of the Autocross 3 Nations Cup. This
started out as a competition between drivers from France, Germany and
Switzerland, but the only thing still French in this championship is
that there is a round on the French track at Steinbourg and 1
participating driver. On the other hand, the competition now also
attracts drivers from Austria, Belgium and Luxemburg. Of the 15 races I
saw, 8 were won by Swiss, 3 by Germans, 2 by Austrians and 1 each by a
Belgian and a driver from Luxemburg. The track (a 1 km road course) is a
trifle unusual for an autocross venue, as it has a fair part of asphalt
in it together with rather hard shale. There are also elevation changes,
but overall the track is quite narrow. But it allowed for good racing,
not in the least because it was damp. Unfortunately, as with so many
autocross series, this one also had a few classes with skinny fields,
but the touring classes and the 2WD buggies had excellent fields of 15,
17 and 18 cars.

At the end of the Saturday programme (there was an identical programme
on Sunday, counting for full championship points as well), I drove down
to Schwyz again and dined in a restaurant near my hotel. Switzerland is
a very expensive country to visit and this is especially the case when
it comes to eating. Moreover, most Swiss food is average at best (much
too fat and not very tasty). One thing I do appreciate in their cuisine
is the excellent mixed salads they serve. And if you ever eat in
Switzerland you need to know that they serve your salad before the rest
of your meal and you're supposed to start eating it. As long as you
don't eat a substantial part (at least two thirds) of your salad,
nothing else is served! After a little walk it was time to rest. I did
sleep very well.

As the Sunday races started too late to allow me to watch a few and get
home at a decent time, I had a late breakfast at 9.00 a.m. There's a
saying that if you want to eat well in England, you eat breakfast
morning, noon and evening. While this certainly isn't true any longer
for the UK (where there is an abundance of nice restaurants), it still
is spot on for the Swiss. It's a lot like a German breakfast, but with a
larger emphasis on cheese instead of meat. Anyway, it kept me going for
the 8 hours till home.

Next week, I'll probably trackchase in Belgium and the Netherlands
again, although a trip to France might also be on the cards.

Roland

I don't know where I got the impression that Sunshine was forced to close and
was torn down to make way for an interstate ramp. Was that a different track in
Florida?

Bruce: After Sunshine and Golden Gate, bring back Hialeah!

Thanks for the info, Gordy!

   Greetings from your breadman,

It looks like the old Sunshine Speedway in St. Petersburg, FL will be
reopening as the Showtime Speedway on June 1. Better get it if you don't
   have it.

According to a TV news report on the reopening of Sunshine (Showtime),
the DOT was last using the facility as a testing ground for toll plaza
equipment. Apparently the track was never torn down.

According to the track web site, it looks like they'll be racing on the
figure 8 as well as the oval.

TrackChasers:

On Friday after work, Mike Knappenberger and I left Reading on our way to
Indiana, where we hoped for an afternoon stop at The Speedway and a Saturday
evening TQ Midget show at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. That plan blew up,
but that story is for another day. Today's report is about Friday.

We had no intention of stopping at a track on the way, as we wanted to be at
Indy for the start of practice at noon. But at 9:00 we passed by Motordrome
Speedway and saw the track lights, and we were drawn to it like moths to a night
lamp.

This was my first time at Motordrome since a 1997 Sunday afternoon stop for the
short-lived inner oval Dwarf Car series. My first visit to the paved half mile
was with Pam in 1990, and six years before that I was there when it was still a
dirt track. I'm now back to a full 50% of my 2012 tracks being repeat visits to
tracks I have already been to in the past. I'm still a race fan.

Admission was $14 and we hoped to catch both the Modified and Late Model
feature. However, we missed the Modifieds. No big deal, as they only had eight
cars on the paved half mile. We did arrive just in time for the Late Model
feature. It was 50 laps and that class only had 11 starters. After two laps,
two were out, leaving only nine cars for the last 48 laps.

Still, the crowd was decent and both the track and the facility are top notch.
The cars fly around that track, and the race was pretty good for basically
having only nine cars.

After the Late Model feature, there was only one race left, a 100 lap four
cylinder enduro. We were going to watch the majority of it, but when only 13
cars took the green, we watched for a short while and headed out, back on the
Road to Indy.

*RICK @ the RACES (2 May to 9 May 2012)*

*
*

*5 May Coventry Stadium , Warks , England *

*6 May Aldershot Raceway, Hampshire, England*

*7 May Sheffield Sports Stadium, South Yorkshire, England*

*This weeks report starts on Wednesday 2 May, when I left my home in
Cornwall , Ontario, bound for another trip back to England to see family
and friends. *

*The first part of the trip involved a drive to my employers Quebec depot
in Baie Durfe, Montreal where the HHR was to going to be parked for the
week. My good friend and co worker, Barb Forsythe, then taxied me to the
airport in Dorval.*

* My British Airways flight , departed at 10-30pm and was due to land at
London Heathrow at about 9-30 am on Thursday morning. Although it was late
taking off, it turned out to be an enjoyable flight, and I killed time
watching the movie 'Iron Lady'. The factual film that tells the story about
Margaret Thatcher, one of the best prime ministers, Great Britain ever had.
( I remember it quite well when she was in power, she was the first female
premier of the country, and in my opinion she had a lot more 'grit'
than any of the male political leaders of that era) *

*Thursday 3 May*

*The late take off meant a 20 minute delay on my arrival in London, but
after a quick turnaround at customs and immigration, by about 10-30 am , my
old buddy Colin Herridge had picked me up and was driving me towards
Bedfordshire. After a bacon 'sarney' at the Watling Street Truck Stop at
Flamstead, we were at my Mum and Dads place in Toddington, by midday. Mum
had prepared lunch and not long after this I was on the move again. My Dad,
is sadly in poor health right now and the afternoon was spent in Dunstable
visiting him at the nursing home. *

*Friday 4 May*

*On my previous visits back to the UK, I've always had the use of my
parents car, but due to the changes in the insurance regulations, this time
it was cheaper for me to have a rental. *

*On Friday morning, my brother Chris , drove me to Luton Airport to pick up
my Avis Rental car. I'd booked the cheapest and smallest car available so
was pleasantly surprised when I found they'd upgraded me to a Vauxhall
Astra 1-6 SRI. *

*The rest of the day was spent getting used to driving on the left again. I
accompanied Mum to see Dad again in the afternoon which was followed by a
shopping trip into Milton Keynes and a visit to my sister Anne's place in
Hockliffe. *

*With Dad in poor health, I was 'playing everything by ear' and had only
planned on one definite racing trip, with the slight possibility of one
other. On Saturday evening Colin would be taking me to the Coventry Stadium
for the traditional 'first Saturday in the month' BriSCA F1 races, and on
Sunday there was a chance of some Banger Racing at the Horndean track near
Portsmouth. I'd planned to visit my long time friend Lynn Longdon , in
nearby Havant, who's son Glen would be racing there. Leading up to the
weekend, I'd been keeping an eye on the track's website because recent
heavy rainfalls and flooding, had put the event in jeopardy . It was on
Friday I spotted their decision to cancel .*

*Saturday 5 May*

*On Saturday I took mum for an early morning shopping trip into Hemel
Hempstead , followed by a visit to see Dad after lunch. *

*At 4-00 pm Colin picked me up in Toddington for the one hour drive to
Coventry. *

*BriSCA F1 stock cars were traditionally topping the bill and were
supported by kids Ministocks and the BriSCA Heritage Cars. I was looking
forward to seeing the Heritage Cars , as it's an attraction that has
developed since my emigration. Many of the replica's and reconstructions
involve race cars I fondly remember . One of my 'old mates' Stan Cole was
going to be racing the Ellis Ford (3) car. One of the organizers of the
Heritage cars is Kingsley Thorneycroft , who I had the pleasure of meeting
for the first time. Colin and I got there early enough to wander around
their display on the centre and chat with everyone before the nights
program got under way. I even got the opportunity to sit behind the wheel
of the Ellis Ford (3) car. *

*As well as all this Heritage stuff going on, there was a tribute to the
'Harrisons' , the 'Royal Family of BriSCA'. I've known the Harrison Team
for many years, and this was an added bonus for me. During the night the
cars of legendary Willie, his son Paul ( the present BriSCA F1 World
Champ) and grandson Bradley ( currently racing Ministocks) were paraded
around the track. *

*A night with so much nostalgia, meant that many old friends from the past
were in attendance. It was great to meet up again with stock car racing's
all time 'Mr Starter' Al Henderson. I met so many faces from the past , I
wont even attempt to name them all. ( in fear of leaving someone out ! ) *

*Once the racing got under way I spent most of the night watching the
action from the main front straight bar, in the same spot where I used to
do so, over twenty years ago. Rosemary Gale, the widow of my old mate Mick,
was still in 'our' regular spot and that's where I based myself. *

*The racing was action packed with the final going to James Neachell (322)
, second Mick Sworder (150) and third Ryan Harrison (197). All of these are
second generation drivers, who's fathers raced in my era. (James, son of
Malc (322), Mick, son of Dick (150) , and Ryan, son of Murray (97). *

*Another group of old friends I reunited with during the course of the
evening were Ian and Bob Hall , along with Steve Mayhew. To save Colin
having to make a 20 minute detour from Milton Keynes to drop me off in
Toddington, I got a ride back with Ian who was heading back to West London.
*

*Sunday 6 May*

*With the races at Horndean called off, I decided to go for 'plan B'.
*

*A family supper at a local eatery had been organized for the evening , so
after visiting Dad again in the morning, I decided on an afternoon trip to
Hampshire.*

*One of the many mid week tracks I used to visit regularly in the past was
the Aldershot Stadium at Tongham, which ran every Thursday night. It was
a favorite 'haunt' until it got knocked down to make way for redevelopment.
*

*A few years back Spedeworth boss Dean Wood found a nearby replacement
track at Fleet, and it happened to be running this Sunday. I got there just
in time for the 1-00 pm start for the program of Classic Stock Cars ( Stock
Saloons), Junior Rods and Reliant Robins. ( for those that don't know,
Reliant Robins are those amusing glass fiber 3 wheeler cars that have a
habit of turning over in oval racing) .
*

*Unlike Coventry the night before, there was only one person in
attendace that I knew. It was my Dutch 'Face Book' friend Geert Roubroeks
who had towed his (259) Ford Cortina Classic Stock Car over from Roermond
in the Netherlands. It was nice to meet Geert and his crew for the first
time.*

*It was also a first time visit to the Aldershot Raceway for me , and it
became track # 201 on my TRACKCHASING totals. *

*About half way through the afternoon , I made my exit and was back in
Toddington in good time to take mum out to meet the rest of the family for
a supper at Dunstable's ' Mullberry Tree'.
*

*Monday 7 May*

*This week end happened to be the 'May Day' holiday weekend and Monday was
a statutory holiday for many people. Originally , I hadn't got anything
planned for the day, but when my 'old mate' Mick Black offered me a ride to
see the BriSCA F1's , BriSCA F2's and Mini Stocks at Sheffield I decided
to go.
*

*The Sheffield Sports Stadium is one of the best ( if not 'the best' )
appointed stock car stadiums in England and I first visited the place in
October 1977. It ran regularly on Monday nights during the 1970's and early
80's until it closed for a few years. The last time I was there, was in
August 1982, and I remember it well. My wife Pat was heavily pregnant with
my daughter Carla on that occasion and we were at Sheffield on our way to a
caravaning holiday on the Yorkshire coast.
*

*Mick and I got there early and just like Coventry two days before , there
were plenty of old friends to meet. In the pits I had a good chat with Nev
Woodhull who's son Mark (335) supplied a car for my Canadian friend Dave
Heaslip to drive in the 2003 BriSCA F1 World Final.
*

*It was also great chatting to Derek Hinds and his son Paul. Back in the
1980's Derek and I would often be at the races together, and as kids , Paul
and Carla were about the same age. I recall when we were at the Long Eaton
Stadium, we'd often keep them 'quiet' by giving them a bit of cash to spend
with the tracks 'Candy Man' . Paul who is now a top BriSCA F1 driver (259)
, laughed and said 'yep, and it worked' when I reminded him. *

*There was a slight drizzle during the afternoon so after taking a few
pictures I joined more old friends up in the luxurious 'fourth turn'
restaurant and bar. It's really nice in there, it's behind glass, has plush
carpets and fine dining. *

*Inside I found Phil "Bootsie' Chance who was representing the Veteran
Stock Car Association and organizing the Victory Lane presentations. Phil
is one of my earliest racing friends and we 'go back' to the 1960's . (
Check out RETRO Episode 3 on www.rickattheraces.com .*

*Accompanying him on his table were, Vic Bidulph , as well as Joan and Paul
Jenkins. I ended up downing a few pints and watching the remaining races
with them. *

*When it came to the nights 'Final' race I was honored when they asked me
to present the Trophy to race winner Tom Harris ( 84) of Oxfordshire. *

*The whole thing was being televised by Premier Sports and during the
course of the night, presenter Natalie Quirk gave a nice plug for
www.rickattheraces.com. After hearing this, another of my buddies from the
past made him self known by coming up to say hello. It was Robin Shaw , a
race fan and former Iceland Co Worker . He was the one I have to credit for
getting me started in all this racing media stuff , when he suggested to
SHORT CIRCUIT MAGAZINE that I write articles for them. *

*When the show was over, Mick and I made our way back to Toddington and
were back there by a respectable 10-00 am.*

*Tuesday 8 May*

*Tuesday was my final full day in England , and my rental car had to be
returned to Luton. Mum and I did this in the morning before a shopping
excursion around my 'old town' of Dunstable. *

*In the afternoon I spent some time with Colin and his wife Kim in Milton
Keynes where we took a look at the HQ for the F1 Red Bull Team. I visited
Dad once again with my sister Anne before spending my final evening with
Mum, dining in our favorite Dunstable Chinese restaurant. *

*Wednesday 9 May *

*Wednesday was the day I had to return to Canada , and after Mum dropped me
off in Hemel Hempstead , I got my bus to London's Heathrow Airport. I was
there nice and early and after a 90 minute delay the plane finally took off
at about 7-45 pm (GMT). My choice of movie for the return trip was
Contraband, an excellent thriller which I enjoyed.
*

*As expected, the plane landed late in Montreal (at 9-50 pm) and not long
after that , Barb had picked me up and was taking me to Baie Durfe. The HHR
was fired up and by 12-15 am I was home in Cornwall.

The state of weekly short track racing in Florida is often portrayed as not
being very healthy. There is probably some truth to that. But Bronson Speedway
was closed and it reopened last year, Putnam County Speedway was closed and
should be reopening soon with TrackChaser Robert Helmick as one of the
co-promoters, and now Sunshine Speedway is reopening as Showtime Speedway after
being closed for eight years. Let's hope the race fans in Florida support them.

TrackChasers:

Saturday afternoon Mike and I stopped by The Speedway to watch the opening day
of practice for the Indy Cars, as well as the Electric Vehicle Grand Prix. We
drove through the tunnel, under the track, and pulled in to the infield just
after the track opened for practice at noon, paying the $10 practice day
admission.

Our first stop were the frontstretch grandstands on the inside of the track,
where we saw The Token Racer, Bryan Clauson, take his first laps. By the end of
the day he would sit third fastest on the speed chart. Go Claus!

After looking around the incredible display of antique cars and a quick stop at
the gift shop, we headed over to the Hall of Fame parking lot, the site of the
Electric Vehicle Grand Prix. Mike and I first got involved with the college
racing scene when the group from Bowling Green State University, then running
E-85 powered cars, ran with the Senior Champ Class at the street festival race
in Clyde, OH. Joining us that day were Gordy and Pam. After further
investigation, I found they had a race on the BGSU campus, and Mike and I went
to that event for the Intercollegiate Racing League, along with Brian and Norm.
At that time, I became friends with Tony Palumbo, the advisor to the BGSU group.
We kept up our relationship and both Mike and I followed the league to the
Fremont Raceway Park, and even to an indoor race in Michigan where Paul Weisel
joined myself and an ailing Mike.

This event was for electric powered cars, and we discovered much greater
participation from various college teams than they had in the E-85 events.
Where the E-85 group had only a handful of schools from OH, IN, and MI
participating, the evGP had teams from as far away as Oklahoma University. The
BGSU team had two cars, one theirs alone and one in conjunction with a community
college near the campus. These were two of the same cars we saw race with the
Champ Karts at Clyde, and with the IRL, now refitted for battery power.

There were two large grandstands set up to watch the 100 lap race on a temporary
paved road course in the HoF parking lot. The BGSU cars, with complete frames,
were among the heavier group of cars and qualified 9th and 10th out of the 20
car starting field. These teams are all student run and have cool names such as
the "Killa Watts". In fact, ten minutes before race time all the faculty
advisors must leave the pits so that during the race the team is completely
student run. Some of the other entries were more like flat caged karts and they
were lighter and thus faster, but many did not hold up under the pounding of a
rough track for 100 laps.

The course was not conducive to good racing. It was too narrow and bumpy and
there were a lot of yellows. The 100 lapper at BGSU had no yellows until almost
the 3/4 mark in the race when the drivers started getting fatigued. This race
had most of the yellows near the beginning, when all the cars were on the track
and the drivers had not yet settled down. The shame of it was that they had the
room to make a much wider and better track for racing.

It was interesting watching the race with no engine sounds. The only sounds
when they were racing was the axle spinning and the tires squealing in the
turns. The 100 lap distance was a good choice, as the battery could not power
the cars for that distance, so a pit stop for a battery change was necessary.
That was very interesting and the top teams could do it in less than 30 seconds.
The cars certainly didn't lack for power and speed.

In the end, our friends from BGSU had advanced from 9th to 2nd at the race
finish, as most of the lighter and faster ones had spent time in the pits. The
race took about an hour, and Mike and I enjoyed it, as we have all the other
outdoor races for the college teams.

There is another evGP evnet on the Perdue University campus. They were one of
the top teams in competition. Mike and I are hoping to invade the campus next
Spring to see that event as we once again plan to cross paths with this unique
and interesting form of wheel-to-wheel racing.

After the race, we headed out and to our Saturday evening location, the race
both Mike and I were looking forward to the most during the weekend.
Unfortunately.....

TrackChasers:

Last Saturday, after Mike and I left Indy in mid-afternoon, we headed south to
the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, where the Midwest TQ Racing League was running
a stand alone show. After chasing open cockpit racing to Indiana and throughout
the country for the past 30 years, it was surprising that I had never been to
any of those little TQ tracks in the state, either under UMRA sanction or the
newer MTQRL.

We arrived and found a good field of 20 TQ's in the pits for the club's 2012
opener. Admission was $8, and even though the weather was threatening I headed
in to get some track pictures as the cars came out for wheel packing. Mike
stayed in the car, but since the grandstand is the old wooden covered version, I
stayed inside. I sat with a guy that was attracted to my Perris tee shirt and
PA license plate, and I found out he was the 2010 and 2011 NSSN Superfan
champion David Garrison of KY. He told me he was at over 150 races in each of
the last two years, and has been to over 300 tracks in his lifetime.
Surprisingly, this was his first time at this track, only 20 miles from his
home. I'm hoping to be able to invite him to join our group.

The rain came and sent the cars back to the pit area. It did eventually stop
raining, and they scraped the loose mud off the track and promised to do
everything possible to race this evening. I was optimistic, as the rain had
completely ceased. I wandered over to the refreshment stand operated by the
local fire company, and found delicious char-grilled burgers for only two bucks.
I downed a pair.

The cars came back out for a second round of wheel packing, and on cue, just
like the first time the TQ's came trackside, the rain returned. They tried
their best and kept at it, but the track kept getting sloppier and sloppier.
Eventually they had no choice but to throw in the towel. I gave my rain check
to Garrison, and he promised to return and bring his grandson.

It was a major disappointment for me to drive all the way to Indiana between two
full work weeks and get rained out at a track I had really wanted to see with
the kind of show that I really love. The maddening part was that the forecast
was great, and most of the state was dry. The rain cloud just positioned itself
over my parade and wouldn't go away.

But there was no time to pout, or to rest even though we had worked all day
Friday, went to Motordrome, drove all the way to Indy, watched practice at the
Speedway, watched the evGP at the Speedway, drove to Madison, and sat there two
hours only to have the show rain out. There was still a chance for Mike to see
a new track, and for both of us to see races. Off we went.....Guy Smith

TrackChasers:

I just heard from Russ Ludwig of the "PA Wings" Winged Outlaw Kart group. He
said that their appearance scheduled for Saturday May 26 at Dunn Hill II has
been canceled.

If you recall, they were not sure if they were going to race on the new inner
kart oval or the big outer stock car oval. They were planning on deciding on
race night.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that they will not be racing there at all, in
case anyone had the event on their radar.

Hi

Just in final planning stages of trip to USA in June, we are looking
at doing paragon, Indiana on Saturday night and Bedford Speedway on
Sunday. Jusy wondered if anyone can let me know how long it would take
to travel between the two?

My friends who I am coming over with are hooked on non winged sprint
cars hence doing a couple of shows in Indiana before going east for
USAC eastern storm!

Thanks

Colin:

Eight hours drive as if you use the PA Turnpike, which is a toll road. If you
want to avoid the pay road, it would be a bit longer.

Thanks for the info, chance to get some sleep overnight before heading
off east then!

How much is the toll approx, I think we will use the toil road as it is
quickest but would be handy to know how much it it likely to cost. We
only have a couple of toil roads in UK, and one I use on occasions is
about $7.50 for around a 25 mile stretch of road.

Thanks
Colin

Mike and I used the PA Turnpike last Friday to drive from Reading to where
Route 70 splits from the toll road at Smithton. It was $18. Bedford is a lot
closer to the western entrance point than Reading, so I would guess about $10-12
US dollars.
