I found these websites this morning.

ND McLean Co - www.homestead.com/mcleancountyracers

ND Nodak - www.nodakspeedway.homestead.com

what's funny is that they are both on the homestead.com system, but their
URLs
are so much different

Also NS Scotia Speedworld has a new website under construction

www.scotiaspeedworld.com

BTW Randy, on the Nodak website they are listing Sunday July 9 as their date
for the ND Modified series

Thanks guys on the notes.

It looks like we've got two tracks to check into.

AB - Rapidfire Raceway
SK - Estevan

There wasn't a phone number or email address to any of those smaller
sanction on their sites / West Texas Winged Midgets / Northern Stars
Lightning / Alberta Outlaw Modified Racing. But that's all to common. I've
found many aites that don't list phone numbers and only a few sites list
their regular mailing address.

Yesterday we came up with four webpages. Three of them I couldn't pull up
and the last one says its underconstruction.

www.hotyellow98.com/WBRA

www.friendshipspeedway.com

www.greatbasinraceway.com

www.angelfire.com/nm/sertoma

Any of you guys have any luck on the above sites?

Allan,
You should be able to get some info on the Estevan track from the promoter at Rugby,ND. Apparently he is involved in promoting the July modified tour that has Estevan on its schedule. This info is from a friend who was asked to flag the tour.
I have a special affinity for Estevan, having lived there as a kid. But even more so because thats where my life was changed forever. On one momentous night in 1959 my Dad decided to take his four year old boy to see the races. The rest is history.

Randy,

Thanks for the updates. We had most of the sites you listed, all but
Arlington, MN. They sent their information back, but never listed their
website? You must have a really strong computer, the way you can pick up
website.

Gary,

I called a parts store in Prescott, AR. And they did not know of any new
oval track being built in the area.

Will/Guy/Gordy,

What's the deal with Kutztown. I read in Ernie's column there is a new
promoter there. We already had the info back from the old promoter.

Do any of you guys know anything about Mahantango Racing Park in Port
Trevorton, PA. Friday nights with Micro-Sprints? Do you have any phone
numbers?

What about the new indoor superspeedway in Pittsburgh? I probably won't list
it year, but I haven't seen any contacts yet?

Jack,

I haven't been able to talk to the guy who is building the new track in
Wheatland, MO, but I talked with a fellow at a parts store and he said it is
a 3/8 mile and it will be nice. I've got the phone number of the promoter. I
might call him today.

I haven't had any luck with Fulton, MO yet.

Don,

Thanks for the tip on Esteven. You beat me to the punch as I was about ready
to ask you if you knew anything about it.

Also do you know a good site to go to get Canadian phone numbers?

BTW, which internet info service do you guys find the most accurate and easy
to use. I have been using Yahoo for business phone numbers. Does ATT have a
site anyone can use for getting personal phone numbers? The problem with
getting home phones for individuals on sites like Yahoo is they are so out
of date. We moved two years ago and we can still find our old phone number
and address in most of the internet listings. I was told there is not an
internet site that is completely up to date, six months is the best. I've
heard that directory assistance from ATT is accurate within two weeks.
Because we are talking a lot of times with people who just moved into an
area, we need accurate phone numbers.

This year we have four people working on making the calls to contact the
tracks. I always work on the tough ones.

New tracks that I've confirmed.

AL - Deep South Speedway - Loxley - 3/8 dirt - Sat nights
NE - Hitchcox Co. Speedway - Culbertson - 3/8 dirt - Sat nights (opened last
year)
WA - State Fair Raceway - Yakima - 3/8 dirt - Specials (1/2 mile from Yakima
Speedway)

Reopened tracks

AL - Guin Speedway - Guin - 1/4 dirt - Fri nights (1970's track that
recently reopened)
CO - May Valley - Lamar - specials (reopened last year)

Changes

VA - Mid-Bay (Saluda Speedway) - is now being called Virginia Motor Speedway

I was under the impression that Bandoleros count. As far as Kutztown
goes, the Meitzler family that actually built the track has underhandedly
taken total control of it. The other original partners are out. They're also
going to try a Thursday raindate this year. They must really think they have
the upper hand to do something they know will upset the locals. I haven't
heard anything new on the indoor Pittsburgh track since they broke ground
last year. Gordy

IL - Clay Co. Speedway - Flora - Friday nights - opened last year (near Red

I think Jack went to this one last year. I stopped and looked at it.

ND - Hamilton Fair Speedway - to run one race during the fair in July -
hadn't confirmed date yet.

OK - Little River Speedway - Honobia - Sat. nights - SE part of the state

Have you heard anything about the Kitson Co. Fairgrounds track at Hallock,MN reopening this year? Rumor up here has them running 8-9 times on Sat. probably with Late Models. The last couple of years they ran Sprints and Lates during the fair but its got to be 15 years since they ran a regular show.

Gordy and Don, My first race ever came in the fall of 1963 at the
now defunct Harmony Speedway in Harmony, N.J. My oldest brother, Bob
had a friend at school who took him to Harmony and he came back and
convinced mom and dad that we all should go. That began my 37 year
love affair with the sport of auto racing starting at the age of 7.
How about it out there, when was your first race???? Bruce

Allan, While on the subject of new tracks Pat and I visited one in
Arizona several years ago during the Winston Cup weekend. The
Arizona State Fair was going on and we stumbled upon a modified
midget while visiting Arizona Shirts. They informed us that they
were running several divisions of modified midgets that night at the
fair. To our surprise we visited the fair that evening and witnessed
a well run show on a 1/6 mile dirt oval. There was a big grandstand
on the homestretch with plenty of seating. It was a neat little show
which ended around 10. Not sure if they still run there but I always
mean to mention it to you but always forget. The guys at Arizona
Shirts might have some info on this. Sorry we missed you and Nancy
in Florida this year. Bruce

I got interested in racing because of my neighbors. I
grew up in East Peoria, Illinois on a street with
about 10 houses on it. Incredibly, three of the
houses had stock cars. This was in the mid fifties
and stock car meant something like a '39 Ford coupe.
On Saturday mornings the neighborhood looked and
sounded like gasoline alley. I'm sure at that time no
one had more than two hundred dollars in their car.
Not only did this street have lots of race cars but it
was also home, for awhile, to Larry Yard who helped
Allan Brown co-author in the early years the
predescesser to the National Speedway Directory, the
Midwest Racing Directory.

My first races were when my mother would drive my
sister and I to the races at the old Peoria Speedway
out at Mt. Hawley. I can still here her complaining
about them charging 25 cents to park. The current
Peoria Speedway which has been in its location since
the early sixties and is one of the raciest highbanked
1/4 mile dirt tracks in the country and one of the
poorest lit even though it is owned by an electrical
supply company.

I might as well bend your ear with my second track
visited, and first outside of the Peoria area. It was
1963 and I was 14 years old. My divorced mother was
going out on a date with a gentlemen who was to become
my step-father to this day. We were headed to
Davenport, Iowa from Peoria which was about a 100 mile
trip. On the way they wanted to stop at a fairly nice
supper club for dinner. We had conflicting objectives
here. They wanted to get to know each other a little
better and I was a 14 year old who wanted to get to
the races, especially a new track. FINALLY, we got
out of the supper club and arrived at the Mississippi
Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport just at the B Main was
getting the green flag. Back at that time the state
of Iowa had pretty much the best dirt stock car
drivers in the country. In the late 60s and early 70s
Iowa drivers won the World 100 for 5 or 6 years and
their drivers always won the speed weeks dirt
championships in Florida.

I still get a special feeling when I drive into a
track for the first time...a lot like it felt to get
up to Davenport for that B main 37 years ago!

Will - Not sure which track the Aug 18-20 USF3 race will be at.

Don - I think that Hallock might be called Rocket Speedway this year. I
haven't tried to contact them yet. I was there last year for their fair Late
Model race, but got rained out.

Bruce - Yes the Modified-Midgets still race at the Arizona State
Fairgrounds, but for some reason the fairgrounds doesn't want to admit it. I
called them last year and they denied it. Yet Gary J says they still run
doing the fair, and you can find the info on the fair's website
www.ArizonaStateFair.com , but unfortunately like Gary says they don't start
listing anything about the upcoming events until a couple of months before
the fair.

I really don't remember the specifics of my first race. Dad started taking
me to Berlin when it opened in 1951 (I was three). The first race I can
remember who won was in 1953 when local driver Bill Sherman beat the Grand
Rapids hotshots in a 50 lapper. I can remember going to Whiskey Ridge near
Muskegon with mom and dad. That had to be in the early 1950's. I had no idea
who I was watching, just that the track was very different and some race
cars had gotten stuck in the sand. At that track you sat on a hillside
watching the races from your car. The first races at Berlin (called Marne
Speedway at first) were in Sept. of 1947. I was born in November. Mom
couldn't remember if she went back in 1947. Also my older brother (14 years
older) used to go to Bigelow Field for the midgets, but he cannot remember
if he or dad took me along.

Before I had my drivers license I had gone to races with dad at Berlin, GR
Speedrome, Whiskey Ridge, Ionia Co Fairgrounds, Kalamazoo, Jackson, Indy,
and Milwaukee.

After I got my license - look out!!!!! Dad can I borrow the car?

Yes, Allan I sure did go to the new track in Flora IL. (Clay County) I saw
an exciting UMP modified show there. A real nice place. I read in the
racing paper up here that the Luxemburg Speedway up in our area is going to
be paved in 2001. Also the Manitowoc Speedway will run every other Wednesday
this year with modifieds. Ed Esser told me when he went down to Screven
Georgia a week ago, they were talking about a new asphalt track opening up
in that area later this year but could'nt
remember where.
My first race had to be in my backyard at the now defunct Brown County
fairgrounds speedway. They ran the old coupes there.
Also I saw on the internet the track in Hallock Mn. is now called Rocket
Speedway and had some dates listed, with possible WISSOTA sanction

As long as the class has no age restriction, it should count.

I asked the tech. inspector at a Bandelero race I was at in Albany, GA if there
was an age restriction for them. He told me that one of the classes has no age
restriction.

However, Gordy doesn't believe me. So if anyone can race them, they should
count. If there is an age restriction, they would not count, as Quarter Midgets
do not for that same reason.

Hi Will,

I have not been to Ten Boer, they, like most field tracks in Holland, only
have a few races a year and they only have one meeting a year featuring F1
stock cars. That meeting tends to clash with one of our big meetings so I
have not been able to go. From what hear it is very basic even for field
tracks.

I am hoping to get over to Holland for a few meetings again this year.
Venray, Calantsoog, St Maarten, Blauwhuis and Texel are pencilled in for a
visit. I will also try and get over to Lelystad. I'm just working out which
dates to go. Texel only has two dates, the other field tracks hold three or
four events a year. St Maarten applied for seven dates this year but the
local council refused permission. The Dutch government are very strict on
noise and pollution and would like to see the tracks closed.

Me and Mark are planning to get over for the Non winged World Championship
tour of the mid west. We had a great time last year and the racing was great.
It also means we can get a race in every night from June 13th to 27th, except
Monday19th June. Any ideas on that one?

What are your plans for this year? will you be coming over to the UK or
Europe? Did you enjoy Belle Vue? Racing on shale in the rain is a bit
different, still, it's better than a rainout.

I have been reading the discussion on the onelist about ice/snow covered
tracks. If visiting a meeting where the track is covered in ice counts as a
new track, can the same be said for rain? if so, my track total has just
jumped by about 70!!! Many years ago I raced at a new years day meeting, the
track was covered in snow, it was a lot of fun until my hand froze to the
steering wheel!!

Regards

Colin,

About finding a race for Mon. June 19th, there are a few people on here who can
probably
give you a choice or two faster than I can. Gordy is on vacation at that time
and always
has backup plans. Jack, Paul and Allan are in that area and may know something
as well.

I have alot of ideas for this year but nothing solid yet. My big trip around the
world
plan is off for this year, but I certainly intend to get a track in at least one
new
country. Mexico is a top candidate.

I'm also thinking of getting to a couple European countries. If I did, it would
probably
be during my July vacation. That's why I asked about Ten Boer. I have more to
ask you
about Europe so I'll email you personally about it.

I agree with what you said about Belle Vue. It seemed like a nice little track,
but the
conditions were awful. After traveling all that way I was mainly just happy that
they
ran at all in the rain.

By the way, if you see George from Liverpool you can tell him I met his friend
the
vendor at Tipperary. I even bought a Tipperary patch and I have it on a jacket.
I
enjoyed the races in Ireland. It was odd though to be at a National Hot Rod meet
with so
few spectators.
