The CBA has really fallen off since Isaiah Thomas bought it, got rid of it and
the NBADL came along with NBA backing. Don't think the CBA has any backing from
the NBA anymore.

Subject: [TrackChasers] Track Has Closed (for 2009) / Magazine Goes Under Too
TrackChasers
At least one track has closed due to the world-wide economic conditions...Lake
Doucette Speedway in Nova Scotia had posted on their website that the 2009
schedule would be coming soon...Now they have posted that they will not be
opening this year due to the economy...That's particularly disappointing to me
because we went there last summer and got rained out...The website says that the
track is not closed, and that they plan to come back with a full season in
2010...But once a track closes for a whole season, the chances of it coming back
certainly decrease
Some people have been saying that the economic conditions can be a great
opportunity for short track racing...I am not convinced of that, and Lake
Doucette is a good example...A good friend of our family played professional
women's softball for the past two years...She had decided not to play this
season...But the team she played for, the New England Riptide, also announced
last Friday that they would not be fielding a team for the 2009 season...The
entire league had only six teams last year, and losing one of those six can't be
a good sign...Also, the Continental Basketball Association, which is the top
level minor league of basketball under the NBA, announced two weekends ago that
they were ending their regular season two months early due to the economy and a
lack of ticket sales...I used to watch this league just about every week when I
was a kid...At that time it was the Eastern Basketball Association, and the
Allentown Jets were one of the premiere teams, affiliated with the New York
Knicks...It seems that all kinds of minor league sports are being affected, and
not in a good way
I also got a post card last week that Indy Car Racing magazine was going out of
business...They join Stock Car Racing, a magazine that had been in business for
over 40 years, as recent racing magazines to fold
