Hello colleagues,
I hope you all have a pleasant and successful Independence Day trackchasing
weekend.
My Sunday trackchasing was also rather positive as I was able to see two vastly
different meetings in two countries.
I started out at 6.30AM for a trip to Germany, where I was heading for the
banger races at Plaidt, about 10 miles northeast of Koblenz. As it's the start
of the holiday trek over here, traffic was dense and with a large proportion of
Dutchmen with their caravans (a rather dangerous hazard on motorways). Luckily,
the track was rather easy to find, so I arrived almost on time for the rather
early 09.00AM race start. They had already raced on the Saturday and the dirt
oval was a little rough running. I'm not such a banger fan, but this meeting was
quite pleasant. Nice fields, more racing than all out banging and all this with
glorious weather (sunshine, blue skies, a little wind and 32°C, my kind of
weather) as part of a festival, with a beer garden, lots of side events (on the
Saturday evening there was even a live band).
I stayed until noon, when I went to cool off a little during my two hour drive
to Remichampagne, a part of the Belgian town of Vaux-sur-Sūre. I had been to
Morhet, another hamlet of this town, just two miles down the road, a few weeks
ago. This time, I did not go to the Saturday endurance races, but to the Sunday
sprint. It was a nice meeting on a nice rolling dirt course (it must have been
grass to start with, but in the heat wave we have here now, the track was turned
to rather fine dust. The racing in the 9 regular classes and the additional
crosskarts category was a little tame at times. In too many categories the
fields were small and uneven in quality. The exception were the crosskarts, who
thanks to a very full field with lots of very accomplished French drivers.
Fierce racing with lots of side by side driving, passing and the lot.
The next couple of weeks are rather quiet over here as everybody will be on
holiday and there are few races about. I'll have to find new venues outside my
usual perimeter. But that's what trackchasing is all about, isn't it.
