MATCH SUMMARY
-------------
Tiffany won her 3rd round US Open qualifying match today against
Maria Fernanda Alves: 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Tiffany moves onto the main draw of the US Open where she will play
Shahar Peer of Israel.

This will be the first main draw tennis match for Tiffany in a Grand
Slam event.

Way to go, Tiff!!!

MATCH DETAILS
-------------
Tiffany's match was on Court 11, a show court (this means there was
lots of seating with TV cameras) and this court was adjacent to
Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The entourage was on-hand once again and we were louder than ever.
The weather was perfect: low 80s with a slight breeze and light
clouds on a sun-filled day.

Tiffany's opponent is from Brazil and not only is Maria a very good
all-court player, she is also a good friend of Tiffany's. They have
played several doubles matches together.

Maria's style of play contrasted with Tiffany's first two opponents.
Tiffany's first two matches were against players who are very
aggressive baseliners. Maria is more of a counter-puncher and her
style has led to good results on clay and on the hard courts.

The match was exciting with lots of long drama filled points. Maria
used the moonball (high looping shots) tactic to frustrate Tiffany in
the first set. Tiffany was down 1-4 in the first set before she
started her comeback.

Tiffany got to 4-4, 30-30. Tiffany played a great point and got to
the net but just missed a volley. Maria broke serve and held to
close out the first set, 6-4.

Tiffany is a smart player and she decided in the second set to be
patient and wait for the short moonball to attack. She took the
moonballs on the rise and went on the offensive and took the second
set 6-2.

The entourage had the entire crowd chanting "TIFF-A-NY!, TIFF-A-NY!,
TIFF-A-NY!" along with "U-S-A!, U-S-A!, U-S-A!" Maria was in for a
long day in the office.

Tiffany kept up the momentum and played smart agressive tennis in the
third set. She raced to a 5-1 lead and had a couple of match
points. Tiffany was backed up as Maria raced towards the net to
finish the point off...Tiffany hit a high lob that Maria swung
desperately at, but missed. Maria thought the match was over and hit
her extra ball in her pocket a mile into the air. But, alas, the
ball Tiffany hit was called out.

Maria played some great tennis to get to 5-3 and had Tiffany down 15-
30 on her serve. Was the momentum shifting?! No way, Jose! The
entourage would not let that happen. Tiffany fought her way to 30-30.

At 30-30 Tiffany won a long, hard-fought point and reached another
match point. This time there was no stopping Tiffany. She moved the
ball around until she got a short ball that she hit for a
winner...game, set, and match, Ms. Dabek!

The crowd gave Tiffany a standing ovation. After shaking hands with
her good friend, Maria, Tiffany thanked the crowd for their support.

TIFFANY IS IN THE MAIN DRAW OF THE US OPEN!!!

Be sure to wave "Hi" to Tiffany as she drives her Lexus courtesy car
around Manhattan next week!

We will have new pictures in the Photos section of the Yahoo! Message
Board soon. Check them out in the August 26 folder in the 05 US Open
folder. http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/TiffanyDabek/lst
